Michigan vs. Ohio State: The Rivalry

Each year, the football programs at Ohio State and Michigan gear up with a common goal: to beat their archrival on the third weekend in November, no matter the rankings, no matter the score. Widely considered college football?s biggest rivalry, these two Big Ten powerhouses frequently dominate the standings, and attract game-day crowds that exceed 100,000 rabid followers.

Steeped in a rich tradition dating back to their inaugural meeting in 1897, this rivalry extends beyond the pursuit of a Big Ten title, and is renewed each year through the pageantry and colliding cultures that distinguish the two schools. Presented four days before the Ohio State Buckeyes take on the Michigan Wolverines at Ann Arbor, HBO Sports will present its first college football documentary, Michigan vs. Ohio State: The Rivalry, which debuts Tuesday, November 13 (10:30-11:30 PM ET/PT), exclusively on HBO.

I without a doubt bleed SCARLETT AND GRAY!!!

I think that Ohio State will show everyone what they are made of. This whole season, everyone put the team down for "being young", and put Michigan on a high horse...but we all see how that turned out. Can anyone say losses to App State, Oregon, and Wisconsin?? Sorry had to get the jabs in. I think the loss to the Illini will only make OSU want to beat that team up North, even harder!

I think that its great that HBO has decided to proflie this as the biggest game in the world. Its great to get some respect. I am a diehard BUCKEYE...and I think that fans from both sides should agree that its nice to be recognized.

I think its going to be a great game, and may the best team win!

GO BUCKEYES!!

This is the best rivalry there is, BARNONE. You have players on Ohio State who are from the State of Michigan (Craig Krenzel is from Utica), and Michigan has players from Ohio (Charles Woodson is from Fremont and Mario Manningham is from Warren).
Bo Schembechler went to Grad School at Ohio State and played for coached with Woody Hayes. Schembechler also is from Barberton and also went to Miami (Ohio).
Whether you Hail to the Victors, or Across the Field; because the team is here you are apart of the best rivalry.

GO BLUE!!!!

Ohio State fans in Columbus are "rabid" but I am truly tired of how fans of the opposing team that visit Ohio Stadium whine about how they're treated. I can personally say that I have never been inappropriate to an opposing teams fans nor do I know anyone who has.

On a more serious note, if you have the balls to wear maize and blue in Columbus, you kind of deserve some unfriendly treatment. Afterall, you would be in the capital of Buckeye Nation. I don't come to Ann Arbor wearing scarlet and gray unless it's game day. Actually, I never go to Ann Arbor.

By the way, Michigan fans are just as rabid frequently tormenting and taunting Ohio State fans when OSU plays "up there."

Get over it.

And GO BUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The best rivalry in all sports. The fans in Columbus are "rabid" and treat Michigan fans terrible. It's too bad that they can't be normal but it is from years of losing to Michigan. The past few years have been difficult but it never lasts too long and will change this year (That's a Jim Harbaugh guarantee) !

I am a native of Columbus, and as such, am a die-hard tOSU fan. Some of my earliest sports memories come from this rivalry. Art Schichter running for a touchdown, Jim Laughlin blocking a punt, the dreaded Cooper years, the tie that was as good as a win, Tressel's promise, punking uofm lately, winning the 02 game when the game meant a chance to go to the championship game. I also have the memory of a few years ago, when my first nephew learned the words to I don't give a [darn] for the whole state of michigan at the age of 5.

Each weekend in the fall is special because my beloved Buckeyes are playing, but the third weekend in November is just extra-special. The whole week is crazy. It's all I can think about for that week - Michigan week. Since it's the last game of the year, you're either really proud to be a Buckeye for a few months, or really, really bummed.

GO BUCKS! BEAT MICHIGAN!

UMGirl:

No one could have said it better. You show real class.

I was born and raised in Ohio. As such I'm a life long Buckeye fan. I have lived in Grand Rapids Michigan for the last six years. There seem to be more MSU fans on this side of the State but it is real close maybe even 50/50. My thought on the rivalries is this: MSU's big game is the Michigan game. They hate/respect Michigan almost as much as Buckeyes do. But when it comes to the OSU vs UM game most Spartans will cheer for UM. That being said I feel that almost the whole State of Michigan, cheers for UM as does the whole State of Ohio Cheer for the Buckeyes. It's a great rivalry between two Great States.

Wisconsin, Illinois? Did we play them? Hmmm can't remember. The only game that counts is this Saturday.

To all Meechigan fans and fellow Buckeyes:
I just wanted to say how excited that we finally are getting some respect....even if it is from a cable TV network and not ESPN or sportswriters. The SEC can't claim this one!!!
It should be a great game. But have any of you noticed how annoying the Penn State Nittany kittens are since they became the doormat of our conference. They urinated on our band in 2005 in crappy valley. They are more arrogant and rude than even you wolverines. (just kidding, i got to get my jabs in) Just wanted to get the opinion from any wolverine that might have an opinion on the nittany kittens???

Gawd...what a waste of space printed directly below me...from Moondick or something. Typical ARROGANT UM chump. Assumes people will log onto an HBO site to learn instructions on where to find a bar that might have the game on in NYC. IT'S NOT THAT HARD! I always find Mich fans quietly exit the Big House Morgue and immediately slink out of A2 with their tails dragging. Arrogance straight to Embarrassment every, well, 5 out of 6 years.

70's LS&A undergrad and Biz Ad grad school student here now living in Southern California who remembers Bob Ufer's introduction to THE GAME one year went roughly something like this..."It's a great day for football in Columbus, Ohio. The air is clear and crisp and there's 10,000 alumni and 74,000 truck drivers in the stands." I'd love it if the HBO documentary includes Ufer's immortal quote so I could hear it again and commit it to memory exactly as he said it.

Ari Gold: "No, I'm just a lowly Harvard grad with a JD MBA from Michigan, that?s it, Eric." Someone on the 'Entourage' team likes Meeechigan.

We do however have a large nationwide fan base, since many of our alumn actually LEAVE the state of Michigan. You should see how strong the U-M alumni are in NYC. We even have two bars that show just Michigan football (Ohio St's alumn assoc shares their bar with MSU and Indiana)

I was curious so I Googled

With the closing of Park Avenue Country Club, the U of M Club of NY will be hosting football watch parties every Saturday at 3 sports bars in 2007. So get off your couch and join us to watch Mike Hart, Shawn Crable, Chad Henne, and Mario Manningham and the rest of the Wolverines each week. All games will be available with sound from satellite TV feeds, including those to be shown on the new Big Ten Network that Time Warner Cable has not yet picked up. The 2007 season opens Saturday, Sept 1 at noon.

How many U of M alums does it take to screw in a light bulb? 4 - 1 to screw in the light bulb, 2 to talk about how great we are at doing it, and 1 to sing "Hail to the Victors"

:^O LOL!

On the upside... the grass is really healthy on the field... so your cheerleaders will have some place to graze.

Ohio State is not going to recover form the loss to the Illini. One mishap early in the game and they will completely shut down. The team is young and doesn't know how to bounce back because they have never had to. You can tell that the immaturity displayed at the end of the game Saturday will cloud their effectiviness, there is a lack of discipline.

If Henne and Hart play this is going to be a great game to watch.

Lloyd is 1 and 5, which isn't bad compared to Hart and Henne at 0 and 3.

The Walmart Wolverines aren't quite as arrogant as they used to be. More like PITIFUL. Nice games against Appalachian State, Oregon and Wisconsin.

The Buckeyes will burn the lazy, poor-tackLing UM D backfield for three or four deep ones. Crable is a cheap shot artist, "big brother" Mike has no class, Lloyd's a whiner and Meechigan is gonna be embarrassed...AGAIN!
