All the sex scenes are shown to be "groundbreaking and realistic." But is this what your sex is really like?
Guys go from clothes off to climax in 40 seconds, every time. There's no cutaways, so that's the whole time they're supposedly having sex.
Shouldn't this be the problem the couples are talking about? All the females are acting like 40 seconds of sex is the best thing they've ever experienced.
Hell, even Jermaine from FOTC only bragged when he gave the ladies two minutes in heaven. That was satire, yet it's three times as long as the "realistic" sex these couples have.

Indeedity and KatieDorrII, please refrain from calling each other dense or any other names. This is meant to be a civil discussion and writing things like that can cause the loss of civility.
As for this thread itself, some interesting points are brought up. I agree that showing longer sex scenes might be too much like porn for HBO to want to extend them. I also agree that some amazing things can happen between two people in mere minutes as long as the events leading up to it are pretty good for both parties.

I think passionate sex could be like that in 40 secs. I thinks guys can definitely get it over with in 40 secs. Might not be so common with females, particularly myself. But I think you need to offer the writers some leeway. I dont think there enough time in the show to allow for the fulllll length of time it takes some women(or men) to climax.

Actually, yes, healthy, passionate sex IS actually like that -- 40 seconds, maybe a minute or so, or three (excellent, thrilling, intensely fantastic) minutes...it's not MORE, and if it IS more, believe me, one or both parties is just bored out of their minds...it's like taking a crap -- this should NOT be a several-minute ordeal - with reading material involved! -- reading material in the john, extensive banging and sawing away, this is for GROSS people. Just go in there, be ready, do your thing and be done. Direct, passionate, exciting, and climactic -- This is greatly satisfying, healthy, and how sex (and crapping) is supposed to be done.

LOL! Yeah, if that was what sex was really like there would be very few female takers....
But let's get real, here. If you really wanted to see half-hour sex sessions, you would not be watching this show at all--you'd be looking at porn. If they extend all the good sex scenes to the length they ought to be, there'd be no time for the rest of the show.

Are you really that dense? That is why the camera angles and "voyeuristic" nature of not having cutaways makes the sex on this show the most UNREALISTIC sex I've ever seen on television.
When a scene uses cutaways, that's a depiction that there is MORE happening off camera.
By claiming to show the whole of sex, as this show does, there is no room for things to happen off camera. Thus, the sex is 40 seconds without possibility of being longer.

You never noticed how depictions of sex on television and (non-porn) movies is always short? They have to be. Are you really that dense?
Never mind, just keep watching Jermaine from FOTC and taking notes. I'm sure eventually you'll put that vast knowledge to use in real life.
Maybe HBO did overestimate the intelligence and maturity level of their audience.
