Dianne Wiest Returns as Dr. Gina Toll

When Gina (played by Dianne Wiest) starts her practice up again, Paul's more casual visits evolve into a commitment to return to therapy to deal with the multiple stresses on his personal and professional life.

Do you think Gina will get through to Paul and finally help him deal with demons past?

>>>He hears but doesn't listen. Why does he keep going back to her? Any thearpist can fill the position yet he is in session with her only because of a past history. Unless something is really revealed in Season 2 I won't be able to believe it plausible for him to make the journey to be with her.

Remember how Alex chose Paul last season, because he said he did some research, and discovered in the process that Paul was suppose to be THE BEST?

Perhaps something similar is also going on with Paul choosing Gina?

Maybel Paul can somehow sense that Gina is BETTER at what she does than Paul is at what he does?

So maybe he's also hoping to STEAL some of that SUPERIOR ability Gina has as a therapist away from her? Or hoping some her ability will RUB off on him by the process of OSMOSIS, or simply by Paul's being in her presence again?

Perhaps Alex also went to see Paul ... because Alex also knew he could get away with MANIPULATING Paul ... more than he could have gotten away with doing that to the other shrinks on the military base?

Maybe Paul also knows he can MANIPULATE Gina better than he'd ever be able to do that with someone else that he doesn't already know (because they'd also be much less willing to take the kind of crap from Paul that he dishes out to Gina)?

Who else would ever put up with Paul & the arrogant & abrasive way that he behaves towards Gina?

Or the way that he refuses to listen to her or take her advice (like the suggestion that he find another therapist for Laura)?

Perhaps that's the reason why Paul sees Gina?

Because she lets him get away with lots of stuff that he also knows other shrinks wouldn't?

Remember Gina telling Paul she was meeting with other shrinks for Dinner last Season?

Wouldn't it also be nice to see a scene where Gina discusses Paul with another shrink?

Perhaps Gina also seeks advice from her former supervisor hoping to get some additional insight on how to better deal with Paul?

Wouldn't you guys also love to be a FLY on the Wall during that conversation where Gina tells another shrink about her opinion of Paul?

that's a tough question, RoDann
and I'm not sure of the "right" answer...
knowing someone, and their issues, may help you sort them out more efficiently..
but then it could get in the way..
we are human after all..;)

Maybe for confidentiality?
Because they don't want anyone in their circle - of friends, family, co-workers, etc - to know that they are seeing a therapist?

Yes, she knows him. That fact leads me to the question - Is the best person to help you sort things out a person who knows you and what you are like or a completely neutral person?

If so, then why do people go to a complete stranger like Dr Paul Weston for treatment? Paul may feel that Gina is the best person to talk to because of the familiarity, yet he will have strangers seek an objective & professional from him. Maybe, the best person to treat them are people they know too. And then he wouldn't be in practice. The promos for the season quotes him as "hating listening to others".

You are correct, RoDann..

Paul cannot let go of some of his past issues with Gina..
But I believe that he has chosen Gina to help him because she knows him..

He is a "tough nut to crack" so to speak..;)
and Paul believes that if anyone can do it, Gina can..
That won't stop him from throwing up some interesting "roadblocks" I'm sure..:8}

Dr. Gina really has a tough time connecting to Paul and it is because he is not receptive to her. He hears but doesn't listen. Why does he keep going back to her? Any thearpist can fill the position yet he is in session with her only because of a past history. Unless something is really revealed in Season 2 I won't be able to believe it plausible for him to make the journey to be with her.

Please come join us over on this SPOILER topic Dame :

http://boards.hbo.com/topic/Treatment-Member-Created/Season-2-Spoilers/2000005511&#msg2000391101

LadyLeslie & I are discussing how Paul (like Mr. Prince) may also be still another person who discovers a few things about himself this Season?

And what Paul discovers about himself may also be just as sad for him as what Mr. Prince discovers about himself & his son?

And maybe Gina (THE SLEEPY SPIDER) will also be forced to say something about Paul this season that is just as damaging (or even more so) than what she said in the letter ... that Paul also saw a such a BIG THREAT to his BIG FAT EGO?

Hi Dame!
Nice to see you back here again!!!

Same here, Two
...:-x

Yes its so much easier to blame Gina for all his woes than for Paul to take a good look in the MIRROR at himself, & realize there may also have been some truth in what she was saying about him?

sometimes the very things we can clearly see in others are impossible to see in ourselves..;)

Did you check out the Season 2 Spoiler topic yet?

yes, so glad to see that Rhoswen's back!

Posted some speculations over there regarding the actions taken by Mr. Prince this season.
Can hardly wait to see what happens!

It should be packed with drama..
Alex's Dad may "steal" the show.

Paul's got a Huge EGO. A great Big Chip on his shoulder. And he also doesn't seem ready to forgive her for that remark that she made about him several years ago?

Hey, Two...seems like we'll be back here again soon, yes?..;)

Seems like Paul just can't let go of that letter incident with Gina, can he?
It's like he believes if he would have gotten that position that he deserved...his life would be better or different?

If Paul continues to keep acting like a "Mr. Already Knows it All," the same way as he kept doing in S1, then no Gina probably won't be able to "get through" to him.

Paul's got a Huge EGO. A great Big Chip on his shoulder. And he also doesn't seem ready to forgive her for that remark that she made about him several years ago?

Blaming Gina for what she said about him seems to be more important to Paul than dealing with the "demons from his past?"
