Although we don't know enough about David, I can see that his extramarital escapades might have been made more tolerable to Gina by his air of respectablility and status within the psychoanalytic community. Are women who are married to powerful or influential men more forgiving - or do the benefits of the high profile lifestyle just mitigate the ongoing humiliation and degradation they are forced to endure? And what about their self esteem - how do you reconcile that your husband finds other women more appealing? Boy am I glad I'm married to a nice faithful low profile guy!

I think Paul's familiarity with David (seemingly supported by Gina's coment about Paul not realizing how crazy she was about him) led me to that connection. I may be off base here - but it's an interesting premise nonetheoless.

What indicated that David was high profile, or that he was part of the psychoanalytic community?
