An architecture student at Pratt, April finds Paul off of a school listserve when she needs someone to talk to. Facing a serious illness and unwilling to seek assistance from friends or family, April engages in a complex push-pull relationship with Paul, both refusing and desperately needing his help. Do you think Paul will cross the professional line to help April?

HEY HBO! Can we please see the comment Sophie left for Paul? Come on, you know us, you know we adored Sophie. I'd rather see that than the letter to Mr Prince or Gina's deposition.

I think Paul hit it on the head with April when he asked her if she saw herself as an adult or a child? She is still a child emotionally. I can see how certain patient's can, if allowed, drain the life out of a therapist. This is such a patient. April cannot stand for Paul to criticize her mother (she did the best she could is her lament), yet she has so much pent up anger that she just cannot unleash it on her mother. The way she went balistic on him for telling her mother of her illness was just irrational. However, I was glad he came back on her with it was his responsibility to do so and I liked that he made it clear to her that she was not a parent, she would have no idea how it felt not to know your child was deathly ill! What a powerful episode. I was really hoping we would get to see April's mother but that won't happen. I would've loved to see them both interact with each other. I do hope April gets the energy and courage to really tell her mother how she feels abt her.

I can also see how this relates to my family. The child (not autistic) who was always in trouble...either in school or out...grabbed a lot or our attention for about 4 years, while the two "good kids" were on autopilot part of the time. They never seemed to mind, but it still bothers me. When you're in the middle of all the distraction, you can't always see who else is being affected. -- "I know you think I'm a dirty chinchilla" - Lois - "Big Love"

I have to say that this storyline is fascinating in conjunction with my own life. I have a 5 year old daughter who is smart and "typical" like April. I also have an 8 year old son with autism. The things that I am learning about how April was treated by her mother while growing up are nothing more than a cautionary tale for my whole life. While my daughter is easy and smart, I continuously put lots of expectations on her. I know she is capable of doing for herself, therefore I expect her to. My son is in need of the attention, so he gets it. For now, my daughter seems fine, but I can see how a lifetime of this may affect her and I will forever be grateful for seeing this show. Awareness makes me more in-tune to her needs in life and I hope she'll be a better person because I saw this show. I was already a fan, last season was a date for my husband and I. And now I am so thankful for this season.

The most powerful scene was when Paul helped her off the couch. It seemed so symbolic of their relationship. It's interesting that Paul sees April's physical condition as a "rebirth" - this could certainly open up a long discussion on whether our psyches participate in creating diseases to get our attention and turn our lives around. Wow, it's amazing that a TV show could illicit such deep thought.

While I understand April kind of Deifying Paul.. IMO another patient crush on Paul is just unnecessary. I was disappointed in April's flirtation. It lacks the history and plausability of Mia's crush on him.. And definately when Sophie in last season lifted her shirt to show Paul her rash, and asked Paul if he was afraid to see her "tiny titties" she wasn't flirting with him at all. Furthermore, Paul's reaction to Sophie was so professional-"are you uncomfortable with the size of your breasts, Sophie?" Where I felt that he let April's lament hang in the air too long. April's flirt was trite, and I hope the story line doesn't go in that direction. It is distracting to the stucture of the story for me so far.

I have no idea where April's treatment is headed, but I find her the most interesting of Paul's patients this season. And Alison Pill should get an Emmy for this week's episode. She's a wonderful actress among some real heavyweights. It stinks that the next episode is not until May 17th.

I agree that one, part of this episode made me uncomfortable. April's is totally smitten with Paul because he is her savior, confident, father, etc. Then the comments about see her watching the procedure made me queasy. I was wondering when Paul was going to stop her. I know Paul was not supposed to take her to her chemo visit but I'm glad he did. The only issue I have is that he did not make it absolutely clear that it was a one time only. When April fell out on the couch crying I almost cried with her. That broke my heart and I know it did Paul but he kept his distance which was good. I did like the idea of her bringing her parents into session with her if she cannot tell them herself of her illness. However, from the previews of the coming episode I get the feeling she will be sharing intense anger towards Paul. I cannot wait for the next episode. We will probably see some of the old April from the first 2 episodes.

Paul offered to talk with April's parents with her present. IMO, that is very appropriate.. April needs to take responsibility for herself, reach out and ask for help from those who care about her.. and stop playing the role of the martyr.. -- ♪music is a universal language♫

Did anyone feel uncomfortable with April's mention of Paul's deep eyes and whether he watched her procedure? Also the whole age thing. I found it very unsettling and flirty of her. A little out of character. Does she have a crush on him?

I am not convinced that Paul shed tears during the session but he certainly had a reflective moment there. Paul could have handled it all a little better than that. Surely, he has the right to break the confidentiality of the issue since it involved the detrimental health of a client? He should call the parents himself. It could now turn into another lawsuit as some of you have stated. Now, by his actions he will have complicated the situation.

I'm intrigued to find out how her mother will take the news. April is highly defended bcz she's never had anyone to talk to or lean on. No emotional outlet until Paul. So sad to see a child exploited this way by weak, absentee, emotionally bereft parents. I fear there's no room in that family for another dependent child.

I really wish he would have made it clear to her that he is taking her to the hospital but she still has to tell her parents and find someone else to take her to her appointments. Everything happened so fast and he had an opportunity to get her to the hospital so that wasn't the priority. The girl did kind of pass out towards the end of the session and I could not see anybody, professional or not, letting her leave that office ill. To me that would be reckless. I just wish he would have made it clear that she still had to tell her parents.

Unlike his mother, this is someone he can save if he can get her to accept treatment. I find the overlap of stories and back stories so amazing. When he started to cry after April's speech all I could think was that he was comparing her situation to both his father and his mother Did he cry? I didn't see that. Yes, maybe he was comparing April with his mother, unconsciously of course
