Paul's black coat-week 9

I can't believe no one commented on Paul's coat in week 9 in the final episode. As I stated, he was always carrying it (not wearing it) around over his arm when he told Kate he was going to Lauras. His car window was open so it was warm and yet he took his coat when he went into Laura's house Laura says, can I take your coat? He hands it to her and she throws it over the sofa and the camera is always on the coat. (Go back and look at that final episode). I know that somehow that will be proof that he was in fact at a former patient's house in season 2. Please tell me what you all think of that? It's really fascinating. If it meant nothing at all, then the entire episode was really silly.

Okay, here's a stretch. If in fact he did leave the coat at Laura's could this be a way for her to return on Season 2. The reason for her to see him is to return the coat !! I can't believe I am writing this but I had to laugh I did "notice" him taking the coatout of the car and I couldn't figure why he needed one to walk 10 feet !

I'm not thinking about the symbolism here -- maybe he went to Laura in the morning when it was chilly and when he went to Gina he left the coat in the car....I really don't see anything here. He just picked it up off the couch on the way out of Laura's house.

Or perhaps it is not his protection, but his burden that he comes to "lay to rest" by seeing Laura? She takes it without much concern, and does not hang it in the closet, but places it on the couch. He does not take it with him when he panics, but leaves it there. Curious that it is left on the "couch" of a former patient, when the traditional relationship would be for the patient to leave their burden on the psychologists "couch".

Or perhaps it is merely a problem with continuity?

Perhaps his coat symbolizes his protection, his armor? When Laura offers to take it, and he hands it over, she casually throws it on the sofa without much concern.......hmmmm. He has exposed himself to her emotionally, yet she is careless with that fact? Maybe?

Paul might have been using the coat as a security blanket. Just something to hold onto, to "protect" himself.

Maybe rain was in the forecast?

Like the idea of foreshadowing for another season!

Maybe it means there will be one!

Did he have the coat at Ginas?
