I am lucky (yet feel guilty) that I can afford HBO at $15.99 a month through DISH Network let alone pay for HBO ON DEMAND. Hell, I still use a VCR to tape because of the price of a DVR. If and when my budget gets really bad the premium pay channel will be one of the luxuries I cut. Hopefully, that is after "In Treatment " concludes for the season.

Hey, AvidReader! Aren't DVRs wonderful things!?!? How did we ever get along without them? Oh, that's right - we had VHS machines, but somehow those seem SO outdated now. Yeah, my friends and family call me at the WORST possible time as well - usually about 5 minutes into when "IT" starts. Anyway, it's good to go back and re-watch (over and over and over). And how is everyone ending up with these glitzy ads. Do you subscribe to these magazines, AR? Because I checked the Vanity Fair edition - and it was only ONE page. ;-( -- Edited by jtomppert at 04/14/2009 7:10 PM PDT

Better yet, get a DVR box. No upfront fee and $10 a month. Not only can one record two programs at once, but, even when not recording, if your friends choose to call you while you watch your most beloved program, like mine do, you can rewind the program to wherever even though you are not recording it. (I should get paid for this, shouldn't I?!) I got the glitzy ads for In Treatment in my New York Magazine and in my New Yorker too.

I think GZ has a valid explanation - it's not HBO, but the actual PROVIDER who is not allowing access to these shows. I'd recommend mary, and whoever else, to contact your cable company (they should have a 1-800 number), say you've contacted HBO, and are now attempting to see why these programs aren't on HBO On Demand - while everyone else HAS them. Let us know what happens, okay?

Since I have access to all the episodes On Demand and on the other HBO channels, I'd hazard a guess that it's the provider, and not HBO, who decides what they put out there and when.

The individual episode schedules show these Season 2 as most definitely being available OnDemand. But the "Series" tab on the OnDemand page does not. (And neither does my TV.) It doesn't seem like such a complicated question, but is this series available OnDemand or not? (I sent a note to HBO a few days ago, haven't heard back. I guess it IS a complicated question...)

by the way...I never meant to parlay In Treatment as healing for the masses by way of sopranos type popularity no no no. I am referring more to a subtle overlay for the audience already established . -- You get what you concentrate on...there is no other rule

I have seen bevies of ad material on In Treatment..which is satisfying but also almost over the top. Vanity Fairs' May issue has a glossy 4 section gatefold! (which I immediatly pulled out for the 8x10 headshots of Mr Byrne. i am actually going to frame them and put them in my bathroom..hahahahah.) on another note...what was on TV late in the evening sunday night? melissa George in "the killing Gene" which was a gritty, homicide thriller..she played a detective strung pretty tight with much of the best dialogue. AH..THE EVER PRESENT SCREEN presence of OUR lAURA will not go away. I hope the character of Paul goes nowhere near the territory of last year with Laura...I do not think it was the best way to introduce the therapist character.. something like that might occur three or four years down the episode road you know? -- You get what you concentrate on...there is no other rule

Alas, or maybe not, In Treatment is not mass consumption material Exactly, avidreader! Thank you for noting that! "In Treatment" is not going to be the new "Sopranos" for HBO - it has a certain "audience" and "voice" that doesn't come across to everyone. However, the viewership numbers from the first set of episodes in Season 2 are VERY promising (up something like 130% from last year!), but HBO needs to keep up the advertising and not just let the critics do it for them! Also, I would be interested to know how they gauge viewership (other than the outdated Nielsen stuff!). A lot of critics have "admitted" that people DVR episodes and watch them at a later time - or simply go to "On Demand" and watch the episodes there. So how are THOSE viewers "calculated"?

Why aren't the new episodes showing up in OnDemand yet? I decided not to watch the first airing so that I could watch at my leisure and they aren't there yet! Me neither.....WTF?

I believe you are asking about the Israeli series. I bought the DVD album on ebay (for a fairly hefty price) and after watching it a few times I sold it, again on ebay. Both albums are in European format, and, since my DVD player does not play that format, I watched it on my laptop, sometimes connected to my TV, and sometimes not. In a smart move, the second series has optional English captions. It also has a great "extras" DVD. Alas, or maybe not, In Treatment is not mass consumption material. I doubt people go from watching American Idol to Dr. Weston. What I love about this season is that he is now less chased by the infatuation demons and free to be a great therapist. I loved his moral battle last season, but it diminished him as a healer, mostly in his own eyes.
