No, her husband wasn't watching. I guess the focus of that scene was more the washing away of the journal rather than a make out scene...refer to Jens post.

yes wtf was the blurry make out scene and was her husband watching? Did she go to his room? Him staying in the little guesthouse reminded me of ADW. I was expecting some couch action

I was disappointed as well, thought the first half was very flat and not sure why. I'd love to know things ended up in the book.......the feeling I got was that maybe they would meet again? Her remark about saving it for the next time? And I hated her husband, insensitive boor. Even though the events were dramatic, the movie lacked drama for me. I wasn't touched, moved or felt much for the characters. They all seemed incomplete to me, if that makes sense. I will watch it again, because it's him, but only begrudgingly....

MissPDX, I haven't seen it, but your take on the movie matches the reviews I've read, which were lukewarm at best and mostly negative. This may be why it is not going to be distributed in the US.

Hey, don't get me wrong.........I love a great make-out scene as much as the next girl.......especially with GB in it......however.......was it not after they started making out that the rain was shown to wash away all of the documentation in the ledger.....which she religiously maintained, as a testament to the horrors of what went on. The rain symbolizes a cleansing, of sorts......a full circle kind of event........the two scenes go perfectly together. She is with her love, which unburdens so much for her, like the erasing of the pages of the ledger by the rain. It wasn't meant to be an erotic scene..... Not looking for erotica here. It was a scene of passion with great emotional impact for our characters, and consequently ....maybe the audience! I think that the movie overall lacked passion/drama points and I think this is as good as any example where the director shied away from milking a scene for it's emotional impact. There is some gorgeous stuff there that IMO could have been underscored by the director for more points on the drama scale so that we care more about the characters. I will see this movie many times and may come to love it yet. But on my first time around the feeling that something was missing was strong.- It felt flat to me which is sort of infuriating because of the stellar cast and the dynamite material but the story; not so well told IMO. God, it has got to be sooo hard to make a movie!!!

Hello everyone! Yes it has been a while for me and I hope all is well in here! I just wanted to chat about the movie, well I rented it and was so FOOKIN pissed off because I read the book earlier this year, and the movie is nothing like the book. After the movie ended, I found myself staring at the ending credits and yelling "OMG that was such FOOKIN BS and nothing like the book!"

Sorry for such a long winded post. and the only > spoiler is that GB and Susan make-out (I can hear > screen doors slamming now all across the country in > the race to blockbuster). Jen, my you certainly are astute...I haven't even seen this yet, but your interpertation sounds right on to me! Directors frame and light certain shots to add to the story, for a specifc reason....it's not just smoke and mirrors.....and from the little I've heard, this could be right. Maybe tonite. Oh no, we're missing tongue???? Has he ever done a really hot scene with tongues? Ok, I'll stop now. I can't wait to see this one.

I saw the movie yesterday and I too was dismayed that the camera pulled back just as GB moved in for the kiss. I did like the later scene when they ran towards each other. But, what about his accent? Is it just me or did the "Irish" disappear? He was an Irish kid in the movie but maybe it was down played because he lived in Paris as an adult? I don't get that one. I love his natural accent...I love erything about the way he speaks.

I had my virgin viewing last night. I did enjoy it but I had to ask myself many times over if I was giving the movie more stars because I am hopelessly in love with Himself? And, yes, I think I am just too biased to really know now where this movie lands in the long run. I do think that while the situation and characters are so dynamic the director made it too subtle and that it lost some passion in the process. With the name change to "Autumn Hearts" I guess the studio/marketers are trying to focus on the love story part, it would be a good title (considering the fall setting and the actors being in their Autumn years) if the movie did actually focus on the love story. But I will never figure out why, with that sweet great tender scene with GB and Susan Sarandon tenderly touching one another, forehead to forehead their faces filling the screen; as soon as they start to make out we are looking at something else. A rain storm. Oh, and if you look CLOSELY you can see the two of them passionately making out in the distance in the rain storm with fog on the fucking lens!! WTF??? I don't get why, at this moment, the director pulls away. (He IS a young guy; maybe he doesn't think anybody wants to see two people in their fifties make out) The moment is critical, passionate and just as exciting as out running a train.... but he backs off. Wimp. He backs off too much and doesn't underscore points in the story where he should. The material is really really good but the director cannot decide if it's a romance, a family drama, or a holocaust story. Sorry for such a long winded post. and the only spoiler is that GB and Susan make-out (I can hear screen doors slamming now all across the country in the race to blockbuster). I will watch it again, I will pick up more I know.... and he is so sweet and lovely and vulnerable. He gives the all out puppy dog love look to SS a few times and you will hit the replay button over and over.

I received Autumn Hearts from Netflix a couple of days ago and honestly I was a little disappointed. I watched again last night just to make sure I didn't miss something the first time around, but I still felt the same way. The scenery was beautiful and the acting was good, but I feel like there was something missing. Like it ended too abruptly without telling the whole story. I think I am going to read the book just to see if there was something left out.
