Books concerning Gabriel Byrne

Hi girls.

I have seen that you have written about books that has something to do with Gabriel. Like books he wishes to read, books about movies he maybe will act in and other things.

Please post what you know about these things in this thread, so it will be easier to find this topic.

I am reading Pictures in my head now. It is Gabriels autobiography. I have only some few pages left of it now.
It is a great book. I recommend that you all read it.

I hope you will give us the titles for some "Gabriel books"
here. I wisht to read everything that has something with Gabriel to do.

Uh, Lozzie, ain't nobody here calling into question Gabe's sense of rhythm when it comes to making love....do I NEED to say A DANGEROUS WOMAN? He might not be able to do the moonwalk or pop-lock or the funky chicken, but he can get his groove ON!!

Gabriel has plenty of inner rhythm, as do all human beings. Without it he wouldn't be able to walk, chew his food, make love, breathe, applaud at the end of a show, or brush his teeth. Conscious production of rhythmic activity, as with tonal expression, is far more to do with confidence, which he may well be lacking.

Well, I would say that Gabriel has "singing and talking hands" !

He expresses sooo much with his hands.
He does that when he is Paul Weston, and he does that when he is himself when he is interviewd.

I remember reading, years ago, that Harris wanted the role of King Arthur so desperately in the film that he was even willing to pay for the opportunity to audition!! He was so good in it and I though Vanessa Redgrave was such a beauty in those days!

I was fortunate enough to get to see Richard Burton play this role in person, on stage, and he was magnificient!!

You're right! He's right up there with the likes of Harris, Byrne, Anthony Hopkins, who could please the ear by reading the phone book!!

Yeah KHW, you're right, apparently Richard Harris fought hard for the role of King Arthur in the film. Gabe and Harris became great friends and chatted about that time in Harris' career often.

Speaking of Richard Burton, with such a mellifluous speaking voice, do we really NEED Burton to sing? Truly, he's a cat who could have read the phone book and have made it a thrilling performance, yes?

It must have been exciting for Gabe to take on the role that two actors he greatly admired and had come to know very well had once performed. I wonder if he ever imagined himself in a musical when he started out his acting career? Hmmmmm, how much you wanna bet, uh, not a chance. Good for Gabe!

Poor old Gabriel. I meet so many adults who remain unconvinced of their inherent musicality, and it is almost ALWAYS because an adult criticised them at some point during their childhood.

I specialise in cases like his. Give me a few hours with the man. :^O]:)

I bought the Camelot Soundtrack, with Richard Burton, and I thought he was pretty good!! And Robert Goulet is magnificent....

I watched GB in Camelot......and I found him amazing in it..and I admire him even more for doing that role, knowing that people may expect him to be able to sing well. He is such a powerful force on stage, that I think he could have done the role in sign language and still would have been mesmerizing!!! (Mind you, look at those hands!!)

Lady Leslie and Windhover,

I think the very first Camelot on Broadway was Richard Burton as King Arthur, Julie Andrews as Guienivere, and Robert Goulet as Lancelot. Burton couldn't hold a note, neither.

Then, the movie version had Richard Harris as King
(to the beautiful Vanessa Redgrave as Queen, and Franco Nero, her Lancelot-who, incidentally, is still living with Redgrave in real life). Harris couldn't sing, neither.

So, along side Burton and Harris, I'm thinking Byrne is in good company as a poor singer but heck of an actor!

In the AFI Top 100 interview...

http://www.blinkx.com/video/gabriel-byrne-2008/fkS8DEVFz59AaItO4KKP1w

...Gabriel talks about his tendency to "back-phrase" while singing in Camelot, explaning that it refers to singing slightly behind the music. I suspect this off-kilter inner rhythm explains, at least in part, his lack of dancing skill.

Gabe was truly adorable in CAMELOT. Nathan Gunn tore up "If Ever I Would Leave You", though, and I'm a huuuuuuuge Robert Goulet fan. Didn't think the Gunn lad would be able to touch the definitive performance of that song the Goulet went around the world to perform, but the brotha stepped up and delivered!! Very impressive.

Gotta give Gabe lots of credit, though. Despite Gunn sporting tight leather pants, a tall hunky body, a handsome face, and a golden singing voice, Gabe was still a very sexy King Arthur. I kept shouting at Guinevere while watching the TV, "Go home, Girl...the hot man is back at the castle waitin' on ya...leave that greenhorn Lancelot to his fighting...go on and snuggle with the King, Woman!"

Ah well, maybe Lerner & Loeb didn't quite have Gabriel Byrne's gorgeousness on their radar when they first wrote the musical. Maybe King Arthur was supposed to be grizzled, snaggle-toothed, white-haired, tired and crusted-down. Who knew that Gabe would show up all snappy and sizzling hot in the role?
