I want to join the plaudits that commemorate the life of an extraordinary human being. I, too, watched the funeral this morning and was so impressed by the eulogies recited by his sons and our President. I was impressed that the Taoiseach of Ireland made his way to Boston for the funeral ( but maybe not so surprised because he and his brothers did so much to help in the civil unrest that went on in that country, also. The Kennedy's never forgot their Wexford roots.).

Rest in peace, Ted Kennedy, and know yours was a life well served and a job well done on this earth.

Yes I've been watching it all night and watching the coverage for the last few days. Sometimes when you think about Ted Kennedy's life, it is just impossible to believe. I heard someone say that if his life was a movie script, they wouldnt make it because no one would believe it.

Who loses ALL his older brothers at a young age. Who loses 3 brothers to unnatural and violent deaths???? no one...its weird. The impact that had on his life is something no one ever really gives him credit or consideration for. The man had his faults but who, in history, do we know that has lost as many direct family members and loved ones in their young life, like Teddy. Who can imagine what that did to him?

And still he did so much...really sad..we've passed through an era, we've lost a priceless contributor to America this week.

He has had more legislation than any senator alive, common stuff that no one even thinks about anymore.

Truly sad.

Right on, Sweetbud...I join you in the tribute to Teddy Kennedy. His civil rights legislation opened doors for so many women and changed tens of millions of lives for the better...enhanced the dignity for working Americans and made this a better nation.

While he's resting with the angels, may he be cradled in the arms of God.

Want to offer a word of praise for another Irishman.
Tonight is Teddy Kennedy's wake. As everyone knows there has been an outpouring of gratitude for him and all he gave. As someone who has worked with people with disabilities for almost 25 years, I thank him for the ADA and so much more.

May he sleep with the angels.

That's funny. I love cat attitude.
I have seen him on BBCAmerica TV.
I think I have seen 3 or 4 different ones.
Thanks, "Definite Article" sounds good.

Yay KW! He is the best, we have seen him at least a dozen times in Los Angeles. That bit in my other post regarding the Irish ceasefire was from his DVD "Circle," but if you are considering buying a DVD or thinking about Christmas presents make it "Dressed to Kill" he got an emmy for that one and it's brilliant.

My favourite at the moment though is "Definite Article" this'll wet your appetite. To set the scene, he is speaking with a Welsh accent (by accident - he was going for Russian) lol, but somehow it made it a hell of a lot funnier.

Eddie Izzard:
"Pavlov did his successful experiments on dogs, But he never published his cat results did he? Oh yes they were hushed up.

Day 1: I Rang bell, cat fucked off.
Day 2: I Rang bell, cat went and answered door.
Day 3: Rang bell, cat said he eaten earlier. Cheeky bugger.
Day 4: Went to ring bell but cat had stolen batteries! Day 5: Rang bell with new batteries, but cat put his paw on bell so it made a 'thunk' noise. Then cat rang his own bell.
I ate food."

iamyuneek---Eddie Izzard is so funny. I loved his bit about Americans playing with the metric system like a baby.

The English did persecute the Irish and Scots people. They forced Scots who were Protestants to move to N.Ireland so there would be more Protestants than Catholics there.
It is all politics and unethical people getting appointed to jobs where they can cheat the locals.

Naw, KHW, never for one moment did I think it was all about the food for you. I took it as a given that a bright, vibrant, cultivated, intellectually curious, fascinating, progressive woman like yourself would plug into exploring the full spectrum of the sights/sounds/culture/history of any vacation spot you visit.

You had my mouth watering, though, with the fish and chips discussion....YUM!!

Lord have mercy, LL, I don't want you to think that food was my focus on my trip-LOL!!! Yes, I do love a good meal, but I loved the history of the land, the shopping on Knightsbridge & Oxford, the evening walks in Hyde Park, the English Rock tour, The Globe Theatre, etc.

Okay, well, I admit I do enjoy good drink and eat (and, maybe, my middle name should be "Porthos"), but I do enjoy traveling!! :)

It was so sweet of Gabe to become a patron of the Focus Theater. I didn't know that he had done that, but I'm not surprised to learn of such a sweet gesture coming from such a sweet man...."Whoa-hah, Sweet Thing." (Go to "Songs for Gabriel" thread).

Any Dublin trip would surely have to include going to a production at the Focus Theater. Just knowing that Mad Handsome trained and performed there is enough of a draw, it seems. There is something quite exhilarating about knowing that someone you admire once walked the same halls you find yourself walking.

Man-oh-man, KHW, your UK trip sounds like it was a blast!! Somehow, eating one's way through a vacation spot really enhances the sense memory. No wonder I've got this urge to see Ireland again....WOW!!

Jtom...I'm sorry to say this, but your friend was in full-on putz mode...they tried to tell him about kidney pie and he wouldn't listen...he asked for that. A good rule of thumb...if you're gonna order something off the menu in a foreign country or unfamiliar culture, ASK the server or chef what the heck is in that dish and how it is prepared. I have found that most restaurants will bring you a sampler to taste, if you ask for it. Plus, a little advance research into the customs, sights, and cuisine of the country/region your visiting is not only a wise course of action, but a must-do, so that you can fully enjoy the trip, especially if it's your first time to that place.

The first time I went to Japan, they had a bunch of delicacies on the menu that consisted of raw urchins and wiggly tofu-esque fare. But I knew that rice, plain sushi, purple yams, hibachi veggies, green tea ice cream, and Mongolian BBQ were a sure bet to be quite tasty to my palate until such time that I could sample new-to-me stuff during the course of the trip.

Showing up to a foreign spot without an eating strategy can be deadly.
