I found a video clip of commentary that Gabriel Byrne did for a documentary callled "Constantine's Sword". It was made in 2007 and is scheduled to be released on DVD in September. It was written by a former Catholic priest and discusses Christianity as it relates to what has happened throughout history...one reviewer called it the "dark side of Christianity". I always enjoy listening to him give his opinions, because even if I don't agree, he always speaks so eloquently and intelligently. http://blip.tv/file/1208001

The video is based on Carroll's 2001 book "Constantine's Sword: The Church and the Jews -- A History". I just got the hardcover used from Amazon for about $2 plus shipping -- a great buy for a book that is over 750 pages long. (If you're interested, search on the above title and select the "Paperback" edition. There you will find a box that says "Also available in: Hardcover" with a link to used copies starting at $2.61.). I didn't realize that James Carroll also wrote (among many other books) the 2006 book "House of War: The Pentagon and the Disastrous Rise of American Power". I ordered a used copy for the ridiculous price of $1 plus shipping. Isn't a tribute to Mr. Byrne that he can fill one's bookshelves with such diverse and intelligent reading?

As someone with a strict Catholic upbringing for me it was both emotional and disturbing. It is an amazing journey that James Carroll goes on and, in my opinion, worth watching. Wow, sounds intriguing, I'll have to check into it.

I actually saw this at this video shop the other day, and I got so intrigued that I picked it up and looked at the back of the DVD to see if I could see Gabe's name anywhere, even though he didn't star in this. But sure enough, it says that there is an introduction to the film by Gabriel Byrne included in the DVD. I considered buying it, since I was interested in the plot anyway, but the angel (or devil?) in my head told me not to. :P -- Please visit Byrneholics today! =)
