Help me understand this please! I am a professional single female with a post graduate degree and a healthy income. I have friends and family and normal interests. I enjoy television, plays, and literature but am not consumed with the characters within them. I have admired the physical beauty of many male celebrities but never to the extent that they occupy my thoughts while I work, while I eat, while I visit friends and while I sleep. But all of that has changed now... Gabriel Byrne?.Gabriel Byrne? Gabriel Byrne?.What in the world have you done to me? I can only surmise that the producers of the show have developed some sort of secret pheromone hypnosis beam that they shoot right out of his eyes, through my television screen into my living room. How else can it be explained? Gabriel Byrne is handsome, of course, he has always been so. But, I could list 20 men that are younger, with bigger biceps, less wrinkles, more chiseled jaws etc. and NONE of them can make my heart stop beating just by the way they whisper the word ?IF?. (See Laura week 8). When I am watching the show, which is pretty much whenever I am at home, I often stop breathing when he speaks. I don?t mean to, but my breath just stops. I replay episodes over and over again, I can recite Laura Week 6 word for word, ?I?m really glad that you called?, ?Losing you is a big deal?, ?It's because when I wash the dishes the soap gets under my ring and? ???.long agonizing pause,??.irritates the skin?. My obsession is full tilt at this point. I surf the net every day to find out what show he might appear on this week. I am renting and buying his movies as fast as I can get them, I would buy his book or his audiobook but I am afraid that reading or, god help me, hearing him describe his inner most thoughts, childhood memories and experiences in that melodic, soft, lilting voice would just put me completely round the bend. I am dreading the end of the series next week but hoping I can snap out of this trance once it?s over. Anyway, I?m interested to know exactly what?s he got that other men don?t have? It's some very powerful mojo whatever it is. Obviously most of it is Byrne himself. His face is not only beautiful but its kind, its compassionate, his intelligence shines out of his eyes and he is a brilliant actor. But I think part of it is Paul Westin too. This character is what women all over the world secretly want and never get; a kind, verbal, soft spoken, strong, caring, listening, beautiful man with a eyes that can see right into your soul, a vulnerability that breaks your heart and expressive hands that could?.brush your hair back over your ears?or etc etc etc. What a man, what a man, what a man, what a might GOOD man.

Lozzie, what you've missed is, well, the ineffable mojo of MH, himself, which can't be categorized calmly, for some of us it just IS, and you know it when knocks you right off your feet...'Course part of the fun is trying to pin point it, hence this fantastic thread!

I've been pondering the original question - you know, what is his secret mojo? I'm not altogether sure it's such a secret. Maybe it's simply a case of -
1. Nice looking man, good genetics.
2. Talented actor, given the right script, and a capable one even with a dog's dinner like "Cool World"
3. The wisdom that only comes with age and a variety of experience
4. Intellect. He's an intelligent fellow
5. A good sense of priorities
Now, what have I missed out?

Yep, I'm here ~waves~ one of about three whole people I know of in the whole of the United Kingdom who have seen the show online and fallen hook, line and sinker for it. Writing, acting, stories, sets (sets? Yes! I like the sets!) and apart from wanting to burn one or two articles of Paul's costume, just lovin' the whole thing from point A to point Z and all points in between.
Nice to be here, nice to find other fans.

Hey guys, It appears that now that IT (season 1) is being shown in other countries (for the first time), there are new lurkers out there, living all over the world, who have just discovered the wonder that is Gabriel Byrne. A few of them have written to me and I have tried to direct them here to confess their sins and commiserate with us on this thread. so I am giving it a bump. -- TouchedByThPoet http://sites.google.com/site/touchedbythpoet/Home

Why am I the only one that doesn't like looking at his pictures? I cannot explain it but I am positive I am in the minority on this one. Touched, Sometimes I find it too painful to look at him, especially to watch his movies. The desire becomes too strong and it will only make me cry. -- Edited by misctimetraveler at 06/29/2009 8:47 AM PDT

Hey, Neek! So glad you watched "Madigan Men" - the film quality is the PITS, but we'll do anything to get that Mojo, won't we? There are a LOT of goodies on YouTube - I'd recommend just doing a search under GB's name - there's a verrry long interview that he did for the book, "Constantine's Sword" that's in several parts. Hey jtom...I watched all nine episodes back to back, just couldn't stop! Wish wish wish with all my heart we could find some way to get a hold of a cleaner version of Madigan men, I mean he's right there in almost every scene, funny as hell, he's a dad, he's a son, he's vulnerable, newly divorced, available, he's a friend, and am I right in saying (can't think of his name) that the friend is the actor who played "Miles," (Murhpy Browns long suffering, vertically challenged boss?) ..and of course he's Mad Handsome at his finest, fine enough to make you weep.... and somehow it's a little bit like IT in that you feel closer to him if thats even possible. I imagine he's kind of like Benji Madigan in everyday life. Anyway thanks to the lady who put it on Youtube (the same one who put up Actors Studio bits I might add) ..but I wish I wish wish. Also has anyone put that IT is a huge hit at the Edinburgh Film Festival over on the official HBO threads? I'l go take a look, if it's not there I am going to post it..don't know if HBO reads their own official threads but its worth a shot. Off topic..my daughter went (and peformed) with her high school theatre class at the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh August 2004...she had one of the best times of her life! -- "Hello? ...your dorwer wz open"

Like picturing your descriptions there, Touched - "pizza" (ummmm). Doesn't "Papa John's Pizza" call it the "works" (with everything on it). YES - that's what the MadHandsome one does to us!!! But I agree - if given the choice (but PLEASE don't make me choose!) between pics and film, I'd have to pick film - since he's MOVING in them (and very much ALIVE and breathtaking and ....). Okay, what is this thread about again? Oh, that's right!! The Mojo!

I like to look at pictures because I like to study faces. I like to pick apart all the detail and the expression and when watching on film you don't have the opportunity to really study because there is always movement. (And if I stared that intently in real life the guy would think I was a lunatic and probably call the police). Now if I was told I could only have film or photos but not both, I would pick film hands down. That is the whole package complete with voice and reaction. (Of course my fantasy option is real life, even if it was only once a month).

It's about grifters and card hustlers who play poker with marked decks and the gist of the movie is about them playing a game against the biggest card hustler of them all. GB plays one of the grifters. Tandy Newton, Stuart Townsend and Sylvester Stallone are the other stars and Melanie Griffith has bit part. (Trivia Alert...those pics floating around from a few years ago of GB and Melanie Griffith were taken while this movie was being filmed).

Why am I the only one that doesn't like looking at his pictures? I cannot explain it but I am positive I am in the minority on this one. I think its because, to me, it's like staring right at the sun. I am afraid I will go blind, or perhaps it's like looking at pictures of pizza when I have been eating fucking salad for 6 months. Yes it is a beautiful picture but it is 2 dimensional and if I cant taste it, if I cant ingest it, it only distracts me, only makes me want what I cannot have. I want to own the pizza, I want to eat the pizza,...hmmm, am I still talking about food? -- TouchedByThPoet http://sites.google.com/site/touchedbythpoet/Home -- Edited by TouchedByThPoet at 06/27/2009 11:25 AM PDT

As someone in the relatively early stages of byrneing up, it is clear to me that resistance is futile and it is best to just surrender and relish the fever. The heat on this thread could solve the energy crisis! Thanks for the beautiful pics.

Okay I give up, ya got me lol I awatched the full presentation of Actors studio again, then I graduated to Madigan men. OMG I would pay just about anything to be able to get my hands on those episodes. I don't know why ABC canned it, it is wonderful...Roy Dotrice was as funny as hell. God why is GB's stuff so hard to get??? -- "Hello? ...your dorwer wz open"
