Help me understand this please!
I am a professional single female with a post graduate degree and a healthy income. I have friends and family and normal interests. I enjoy television, plays, and literature but am not consumed with the characters within them. I have admired the physical beauty of many male celebrities but never to the extent that they occupy my thoughts while I work, while I eat, while I visit friends and while I sleep. But all of that has changed now...
Gabriel Byrne?.Gabriel Byrne? Gabriel Byrne?.What in the world have you done to me?
I can only surmise that the producers of the show have developed some sort of secret pheromone hypnosis beam that they shoot right out of his eyes, through my television screen into my living room. How else can it be explained? Gabriel Byrne is handsome, of course, he has always been so. But, I could list 20 men that are younger, with bigger biceps, less wrinkles, more chiseled jaws etc. and NONE of them can make my heart stop beating just by the way they whisper the word ?IF?. (See Laura week 8). When I am watching the show, which is pretty much whenever I am at home, I often stop breathing when he speaks. I don?t mean to, but my breath just stops. I replay episodes over and over again, I can recite Laura Week 6 word for word, ?I?m really glad that you called?, ?Losing you is a big deal?, ?It's because when I wash the dishes the soap gets under my ring and? ???.long agonizing pause,??.irritates the skin?.
My obsession is full tilt at this point. I surf the net every day to find out what show he might appear on this week. I am renting and buying his movies as fast as I can get them, I would buy his book or his audiobook but I am afraid that reading or, god help me, hearing him describe his inner most thoughts, childhood memories and experiences in that melodic, soft, lilting voice would just put me completely round the bend. I am dreading the end of the series next week but hoping I can snap out of this trance once it?s over.
Anyway, I?m interested to know exactly what?s he got that other men don?t have? It's some very powerful mojo whatever it is. Obviously most of it is Byrne himself. His face is not only beautiful but its kind, its compassionate, his intelligence shines out of his eyes and he is a brilliant actor. But I think part of it is Paul Westin too. This character is what women all over the world secretly want and never get; a kind, verbal, soft spoken, strong, caring, listening, beautiful man with a eyes that can see right into your soul, a vulnerability that breaks your heart and expressive hands that could?.brush your hair back over your ears?or etc etc etc.
What a man, what a man, what a man, what a might GOOD man.

AAHH-HAHHAHHAHAHAH-OOOOOOO-EEEEEEEE-BWAAAAHAHAHHAHAH!! Phew, oh Lord, (sniff), uh, er, (wiping watery eyes), woo, um, (chuckle), hmmmmm, (clearing throat), I haven't laughed that hard in, in, well, I'm not sure I've ever laughed that hard.
Iamyuneek, what you've just read is a classic case of the audacity of hope.
Take heart, Girlfriend, it gets manageable. Like when Neo swallowed the blue pill in "The Matrix" and had to go through that gut-wrenching process of being freed from his gelatinous pod....you'll have a bit of an initial rough go because the mojo blast is powerfully intense at first. Hang tight...we'll pull you through it. Do what we say do and don't do what we say don't do or else you'll hinder your transition into maintenance mode. We'll do all we can to help you to a gentle landing.
No telling who can pick up the pieces if you crash-land....I'm just sayin'.....

Yes, once again, iamyuneek, welcome to the Mojo playground. Just go along for the ride, because we can all attest that if you TRY to fight it, you'll find it's a losing battle.
Etopt was verrrry eloquent in her earlier posts, as always, and I can also attest that she's no longer a danger to herself - or to others (of course, there WAS a recent incident with a bottle opener!). No, sorry, that was not-exactly-Gabe-related.
So, do tell, iam, so we can experience YOUR taste of the Mojo, WHICH movies of the MadHandsome one HAVE you seen? There are a BUNCH out there - but some are simply a waste of your hard-earned $$ (one of those "blink and you miss him" things). Don't want you going wild on eBay and buy DVDs that aren't worth watching (or are on YouTube) - when you can be saving your $$ for the really great MOJO.
Oooh, and speaking of eBay, hey, WHEN is that swingset going to be up for bidding?!?!? Bwahhh!

Ummm.....I can attest to this. Etopt is much better......and if you believe that, I got a swingset in a park in Brooklyn that I can sell you. MUWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!
No really....she has gotten better. I think it's been many months since she's had a GBRI....or to clarify...a Gabriel Byrne related injury. I have heard her mention many ranges of emotion towards him....loving, hating, loving again. I'm happy for her that she has embraced the MH one and lets him now make her happy. We all could take that advice and just let the mojo in and let it co-exist in our lives and just go with the flow. I think once you give in and acknowledge it being there, it does make it just a little bit easier to get along with your life, but not too much easier. It will forever be with us from here on out....
But, obviously, she's not the only one. I'm right there too, so, join us, and welcome to our madness.....

Thanks for the welcome etopt - we all know exactly how the other is feeling, and there is only reprieve for a little while (sometimes,) then you get sucked back in.
I watched a little of season one (rectified that with good old Netflix last week so you can see why I was buried so deep in the mojo) and I had seen him in a couple of movies and I knew he was hot, but man, once I started watching season two I was a gonner, how do he do dat mojo magic?
I wonder if he knows how dangerous he is! LOL I remember watching him on Charlie Rose and he said he doesn't have HBO - so has never seen it....but I know he knows how women react to him, and he is very self depricating, like when he says he is on his way to his dotage, WHAT???? I don't think so Gabe..you are good for another 10-20 years at least!!
Also that list he made to Gina, that his patients want comfort, shelter, they want him to hold them (duh) and they want sex (double duh )

Hello and welcome!
I'm sorry I'm coming in a little late to welcome you to the mojo madness. I've been suffering from a major mojo WHAM! from Sunday and Monday nights myself, as well as a very busy work week.
All I can say to you is that I'm overjoyed to hear that you have found Mad Handsome, have joined those of us who take extreme pleasure from wallowing in his special brand of mojo. And at the same time, I'd like to say "I'm sorry". Your life will never be the same again. Make no mistake, this is not a 'passing phase'.
You've seen references here to people setting their hair on fire (that was me while trying to light a candle and watch an episode of IT at the same time) and almost cutting a finger off (also me - looking at a beautiful picture of the the gorgeous Gabe on the computer), running a red light (while listening to that sexy voice reading Pictures in My Head while driving). I've also spilled a 3000-ounce big gulp pepsi into my computer keyboard at work (also a pretty-picture-related incident, which involved the Mayor of my fair city.)
So, you see, I used to be a mess. (My co-horts on this thread will attest to that.) But I am much better now. I have accepted the fact that this beautiful, sexy, intelligent, blue-eyed irishman is part of my existence now, for good or bad, and he brings me much pleasure. I, for one, decided not to look at myself as insane, but to accept the mojo into my life and let it make me happy.
This man is such a combination of hot, sexy, beautiful bodaciousness, intelligence, charm, and grace that it's impossible not to fall under his spell. He is truly dangerous! (and delicious!)
You will always find comfort here on the Mojo thread. We've all been where you are now. Just buckle up and hang on for the ride!

Yes, LHL, a very bad, bad girl (but it's SOOOO true!).
And, yes, I also second LadyLeslie's recommendation that any first-time viewing of ADW be taken VERRRRRRY slowly. If you'd like to relax with a cold beverage (preferably alcoholic in nature?), I'd recommend a nice tall glass of wine (white perhaps?), but keep an uncorked bottle nearby - you'll NEED it.
And don't make any sudden moves - the movie may START OUT slow, and you may think, "Oh, hum ..." but as the saying goes, "Good things come to those who wait!"

Yeah, you might wanna "center" yourself as the yoga instructors say....or is the expression, "finding your calm place"? Somebody on these threads will know and help us with clarification.
But, do yourself a favor, and e-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-se into ADW...you don't wanna randomly pop that video in, thinking you're gonna kick back and check out another vintage Gabriel Byrne flick.
