Help me understand this please!
I am a professional single female with a post graduate degree and a healthy income. I have friends and family and normal interests. I enjoy television, plays, and literature but am not consumed with the characters within them. I have admired the physical beauty of many male celebrities but never to the extent that they occupy my thoughts while I work, while I eat, while I visit friends and while I sleep. But all of that has changed now...
Gabriel Byrne?.Gabriel Byrne? Gabriel Byrne?.What in the world have you done to me?
I can only surmise that the producers of the show have developed some sort of secret pheromone hypnosis beam that they shoot right out of his eyes, through my television screen into my living room. How else can it be explained? Gabriel Byrne is handsome, of course, he has always been so. But, I could list 20 men that are younger, with bigger biceps, less wrinkles, more chiseled jaws etc. and NONE of them can make my heart stop beating just by the way they whisper the word ?IF?. (See Laura week 8). When I am watching the show, which is pretty much whenever I am at home, I often stop breathing when he speaks. I don?t mean to, but my breath just stops. I replay episodes over and over again, I can recite Laura Week 6 word for word, ?I?m really glad that you called?, ?Losing you is a big deal?, ?It's because when I wash the dishes the soap gets under my ring and? ???.long agonizing pause,??.irritates the skin?.
My obsession is full tilt at this point. I surf the net every day to find out what show he might appear on this week. I am renting and buying his movies as fast as I can get them, I would buy his book or his audiobook but I am afraid that reading or, god help me, hearing him describe his inner most thoughts, childhood memories and experiences in that melodic, soft, lilting voice would just put me completely round the bend. I am dreading the end of the series next week but hoping I can snap out of this trance once it?s over.
Anyway, I?m interested to know exactly what?s he got that other men don?t have? It's some very powerful mojo whatever it is. Obviously most of it is Byrne himself. His face is not only beautiful but its kind, its compassionate, his intelligence shines out of his eyes and he is a brilliant actor. But I think part of it is Paul Westin too. This character is what women all over the world secretly want and never get; a kind, verbal, soft spoken, strong, caring, listening, beautiful man with a eyes that can see right into your soul, a vulnerability that breaks your heart and expressive hands that could?.brush your hair back over your ears?or etc etc etc.
What a man, what a man, what a man, what a might GOOD man.

The extras on the End of Days DVD are great with the director talking about how many women auditioned to play the restaurant and love scenes...they didn't care how small the role or if they had to be naked, as long as they were working with Gabriel Byrne.
How many times do you think they screwed up a take on purpose just so they would have to do it over again?

Stuart Townsend said that he was glad to work with Gabe on the film because when he was in acting school in Ireland, he was absent the day that Gabriel came to their class to talk to them. All the girls kept talking the next day about how beautiful Gabriel was and that he was so nice and that he gave them great advice about acting, but they couldn't remember anything because they were staring at him.
Townsend then said later in the movie that Gabe was so much fun to work with...that he would crack jokes and sometimes improvise, but arrive on set ultra-prepared, knowing his lines cold. Then the director would add compliments about Gabe regarding acting choices he would make, extra bits of gestures and facial expressions that Gabe would add to the performance.
Townsend talked about how Gabe's claddagh ring was made out of pure silver and that Townsend went and had a cheap copy made of it to wear in the film because he admired Gabe's ring so much.
There's a scene in the movie where Townsend, Gabe and Thandie Newton's character escape after a shoot-out and Gabe winds up jumping into the backseat of a Jaguar convertible. Townsend talks about how they had to do several takes of this scene with Gabe crouched in this backseat, and that Gabe would get annoyed that he'd have to jump into this backseat again and again, but would do it perfectly everytime. Townsend would chuckle knowing that Gabe would have to keep hitting his mark in the car scene.
That's all I remember off the top of my head because I rented the DVD and only listened to the Director's Commentary once, but all the comments sprinkled in there about Gabe were always so complimentary and filled with admiration about him as a person and the way he treated his co-stars and the depth of his acting talent.

A friendly FYI...By the way, I rented "Shade" during my early mojo frenzy of wanting to see all of GB's work...watching the Director's Commentary is very entertaining...Stuart Townsend talks about GB's claddagh ring and what he's like to work with and nice things he heard about GB when Stuart was in acting school. These tasty nuggets about GB really make you like him even more
Since I won't be buying this one, could you elaborate a bit?

You see him often??? Damn........I'd love to go to work, if that was the case......GN makes me laugh so hard.......and he does seem like a truly good guy......his show is so freakin' funny........

Yes i am lucky,GN is such a lovely man,i see him often at work,he is always smiling and is quite charming...i love his show too!!

You have to bear in mind that it was me that scared him,he was terrified after i leapt on him and licked his face..an urge i had to honestly struggle with when i saw him on GN..it was seconds away from reality,how i stopped myself i truly have no idea...lol
