Irish Film Festival Appearance

Checked on twitter just now - someone has twittered:"Gabriel Byrne will appear in person at the Aero Theater on 9/24 for the opening night of the Irish Film Festival". After clicking on the included address in the twitter - I was led to the American Cinematheque site, where they had posted for evening of 9/24 "Discussion between films with Gabriel Byrne". The films mentioned were his film (first) and then another film.

Looks like someone may get a chance to get a hug! Enjoy!

From viewing those pics on the website, it looks that the place is VERY homey, very relaxing, and very laid-back.

He has said it's his "home while in LA," and I think the staff are VERY protective of him.

Yes, Noraa, Gabriel has many, many friends in LA, and he visits with them when he's out here. He mentioned that in a couple of articles from last year. He also mentioned in SFH that he likes being in hotel rooms and managing his routines, so he is content to stay at those hotels around the world that work for his life.

The thought of Gabriel Byrne holed up on somebody's sofa in the den just cracks me up.

Strange he has no friends in LA he can visit and set up his home with, when he is there.

He has a lot of friends in LA. I just think he likes his own space.

Well, Ali, he just hasn't met you yet. I'm sure if he had done so, he'd reconsider, but in the meantime, LA is happy to host our dear Mr. Byrne. YAY!

I think he stays at a hotel called The Sunset Marquis, most of the time when he's there.

It's a balmy 79 degrees...why not? LA is happy to have Gabriel Byrne here anytime he wants to be here.

I wonder if he'll come right back to LA?

With the kids at school he might as well. Nothing to hold him there right?

Yep! That's me Ruby - I've managed to stay away from GB forums for a long time but the Emmys provoked a relapse ;-P

You know, I was thinkin' as I drove in about the question of screen persona and photo shoots and celebrity...
We often ask here does MH know the effect he has on , well, women for one, and of course he does--take a look at the Byrneholics gallery, he's turning it on, that "male insouciance" the brooding, intense sex appeal, the charm. But that's his job.

You women who have had the great good fortune to meet him, have, I believe, seen mooch more of the real person. The Gabe who is sweet, shy, insecure, warming and opening, allowing the gift of the gab (gabe) as the mutual affection is felt...What a gift to meet that man! How much more precious

Can I chime in rather belatedly to say thank you to 'Neek and Leslie for such a wonderful job of keeping us absolutely up-to-date?? Brilliant. I almost feel like I was there. Thank you, thank you. (I'm sorry I'm so late I haven't been very well!)

> But, poor guy, he was clearly sweating...

...and hands and feet shaking - he must have been a nervous wreck! Did Gabriel say whether he had seen the film in its entirety before? Not an idle question: he has said that he doesn't watch his films as a rule (even the dailies when filming); he didn't attend the Irish showing and this was the American premiere of SFH. And he said (if I recall the earlier post) that he would have made a "different film" (what, I wonder?) and was surprised by the amount of face time he had in SFH. And to sit there on the other side of the fourth wall and watch yourself talking about some of your most private moments. In front of a group of strangers. Strangers who will ask you God-knows-what questions in a few moments. Who, even worse, may end up not giving a hoot about you or your little film. If he was sitting there thinking "what the HELL have I got myself into?" I couldn't blame him. The "walk of shame" up to the stage must have been a real act of courage. I'm sure he needed and appreciated all the love and hugs he got afterwards.

I hope the NYC gala "delegation" will let him know how much his presence at the LA showing was appreciated (hint! hint!).
