"Long Live Rock" -- The In Treatment Music Thread

Hi, everyone:

Some of the discussion forums for the other HBO shows have music threads -- which are admittedly "off topic" as far as the show is concerned -- but fun nonetheless.

So I thought I would start a music-discussion forum here, for those of us who want to talk about music, our favorite bands and our favorite artists -- or share links to some of those artists, songs or performances.

So, tell us, who are some of your faves, what are some of your fave clips? Or who / what have you been listening to lately? Any new songs or artists catch your ear?

To get things started, here's a clip of a great song with a great theme -- which inspired the name of this thread :

"Long Live Rock"

Hey Days - great choice of music, can you include some Maura O'Connell? She is so awesome! we make sure to see her in concert every time she is near DC.

Staying with the music theme, but straying a bit - my German/PA Dutch husband now claims to be half Irish - on his wife's side!

Both my Irish grandmothers were wonderful cooks - my Dad's mom supported the family by baking when his dad when he was only 5. The DNA for those skills must have skipped a generation because all I can make are reservations!

Hey, I thought this was a music thread! Does anyone mind if I get back on the music topic? : )

Here, I'll start with some rousing Celtic rock -- two songs by the Pogues:

1) Rain Street

2) If I Should Fall From Grace With God

*raises hand*

Me too. Dark hair (well, more gray now) and green eyes.....woof! Well, actually, he's half Irish, half Polish. He says that the Irish side means he can drink a lot and the Polish side means he can hold it.

Yummmmmm!! I lived in R.I. for a little while. The North End had great food, and yes, good pastries. There was one little bakery in particular that had the best pignoli cookies.

> Guilty, this Italian married an Irish man!

I am Irish and Scottish, and when I was married, my spouse was half-Italian and half Scottish

Great documentary I watch every year, Long Journey Home, talks about the irish making their tentative first steps out of their Irish-stronghold neighborhoods, when they began moving up and mixing with other groups, like in the early '50s.

The first ones who didn't marry other Irish people married Italians -- "because at least they were Catholic," said one Irish writer / historian

What's interesting about corned beef and cabbage is that it was not originally an irish dish

In ireland, their big dinner was potatoes, carrots, cabbage and irish bacon. But after the famine Irish arrived here, they couldnt find Irish bacon, which is cured differently than ours. So, they borrowed a staple from their Jewish neighbors -- corned beef -- and that became the "Irish-American" dinner

I'll post some links to some cool Celtic music later, both traditional and Celtic rock

Well, I like corned beef and cabbage.......but trust me, my mother couldn't cook to save her life.

She used to make this meat loaf....(sic) that had such a large amount of corn flakes in it, I wasn't sure if I should add milk or tomato sauce. Swear to God.....you could actually see the flakes in it...{{{{shudder}}}}}}}

Or the lovely chicken stew, complete with grizzle, skin and God knows what else floating around in it. Scary

My uncle once said, "Oh yes, I"ve had Italian food, I had spaghetti and meatballs once." Aha.

Geez, whatta shock! An Irish and an Italian marrying each other, and in NY, no less. :-p Isn't it like an unwritten law that Irish and Italians have to mix?

Yeah, we do the fish thing on Christmas Eve, but not like we used to when my Grandmother was alive. Too many of us don't live close together anymore. But back then - Madonna mia - fried calamari, calamari and scungili salad, linguine with clam sauce, sometimes eel, baccala salad, etc. Struffala :_| Grandma used to make that too, along with the fried bow ties with powdered sugar on top and ricotta cheese cake. I make the cake, and I keep saying I'm going to learn to make the struffala, but I never do.

Hot4Gabe - I know what you mean about starving yourself. I did that before going to Italy. ;)

Irish food isn't so bad....or, at least, the Americanized version of "Irish food."

I like Irish stew and corned beef and cabbage, and irish Shepherd's pie
