Thought we might start a thread around all the Gabe directed paths we find ourselves taking...books esp. lately. Who knows where next. What food does he like? Speaking musically, yesterday I decided to order the Soundtrack to Miller's Xing it it has stayed in my mind, so beautiful and of course, Gabe's connection... I, like so many of us including MH are a major Beatles fans. Last night, driving home, I heard the first cut from the remix, Get Back, Pauls' voice sounded like it was covered in gold! Unbelievable, all these new elements emerging! Bet GB has his set now. So anyway...a misc. shared loves thread, if we want... -- Edited by sweetbud at 09/09/2009 7:33 AM PDT

My daughter is moving to a sublet in Brooklyn this Thursday. Weird. She's an actress, so I mentioned she might want to see if they are holding auditions for roles in this season's In Treatment. Wanna bet she'll spy Mad Handsome walking around Prospect Park? The irony is she doesn't even like him much.

This sounds like a great event!! Here's hoping the NY-based thread-Sistahs can make it to hear GB's readings. If so, please come back with all the juicy details....thanks! Good lookin' out, Diba.

> Does anyone know what "see the line-up of writers, scholars, and reporters after the jump" means? Many times an online article will have an ad embedded in the middle of the article, so you can't miss it. You have to scroll down (jump) past the ad to continue the article. Since there is no embedded ad in the article I linked to, I assume this is an updated version of the article, sans ad (or maybe the article was written with the expectation that an ad would be inserted after the sentence you quoted.) At any rate, PS8 sounds like a heckuva school!

DIBA, Thank you. Everyone, Does anyone know what "see the line-up of writers, scholars, and reporters after the jump" means? It was written under "Suggested Donation: $20/person." Thanks.

I am absolutely loving The Sea, The Sea. I had forgotten how brilliant and funny and deeply soulful Murdoch is. I stand in awe. I'm about 90 pages in and just thrilled to have this big, long lovely read ahead of me! It is a fantastic feast!

I'm hearing you, Ruby! My Irish Catholic granny used to say about politicians (and this was almost 40 years ago), "If they're not crooked when they go into office, just wait a few years and THEN see!" Hey, I live in a state that keeps electing Mitch McConnell - yes, the one-in-the-same Senate Minority Leader. The guy has got wads of cash for his NEXT campaign so anyone and everyone is afraid to take him on (the last guy who ran against him lost because he had FAR too much political "baggage" - bankrupted his company!) Alas, I worked on his first campaign for a local office - County Judge/Executive. He was a REALLY nice, humble guy (although I was told later that it was all an "act"). His mom was a real sweetheart and took me "under her wing." It got my interested in the political process, and politics in general (and I was just 16 at the time). Unfortunately, when I saw him in town a few years ago, I introduced myself, and said that I had worked on his first political campaign. He sneered and said, "You were probably about 3 years old then!" I sort of laughed and said, "Uh, no. I was actually 16." He rolled his eyes, and said, in a condescending tone, "Yeah! Right!" Then walked off. (Someone I was with said, "I think he thought you were hitting on him." My reply to that statement? "Ewwww!!")

I have heard that side of what you say, Ruby.; I've also heard from New Yorkers that they do like Bloomberg. They like that he uses his own money for his campaigns and has been instrumental in securing the streets of your city. What's your opinion of the current mayor?
