Thanks both Avg A and Rubyjtcat - I was wondering who was comforting whom, with that one picture. The explanation now makes perfect sense.
Since I HAVE to work today... I'm going to chck out your suggestion, at lunch. (Sure like I'll be able to keep that promise, too!)

yes, there were a whole slew of pics taken with he and Melanie......they worked on a film together and apparently became fast friends. He actually gave her a lick (??) of his ice cream cone in one pic. Now, now, nothing dirty there.
Yes, Getty is great as is wire images (although those pics are teeny and can't be enlarged)
I love the Amnesty pic of him.....they both looked so moved.

COMayo I think the 2nd one is from the Jindabyne promo shoot. If you go to Getty Images website and enter gabriel byrne there are about 500 pics over past many years

The last pic on the list, the one with the lady in the red dress putting her arm around Gabriel - I think that was the Amnesty International event when Gabriel got permission from Yoko Ono to use John Lennon's Imagine as the theme song. I believe they had just finished watching the program of children in need. Others are wiping away tears. I think GB got emotional and the lady was just trying to comfort him.
And the one with him outside in the blue shirt, that was when he had gone out for lunch with Melanie Griffiths. I think it's a great candid shot of him too.

Ruby,
Just know got a chance to look at the pictures you posted. Good job, keep up the good work! Those were all new to me.
They're all good but my two favorites are the one with the red background and the one where he's sitting outside wearing a blue shirt. And don't tell me that's a candid shot, although I think it probably is. He looks like a god! God, he's photogenic!

Ruby - knowing I'm an idiot about a lot of things on these boards, these photos (!) can you tell when they were taken?
The only reason I'm asking is that the second one from the top shows his Claddagh ring with heart turned towards him. That is NOT good, means he feels that his heart is taken. Since I don't meself standing next to him, that cannot be true.
The photos are great - I like him better relaxed not poised.
