Thread-Sistahs, what you are experiencing is the pains of a new regime at HBO. The Chris Albrecht days are gone....you might remember him, the former head of HBO who brought you the great programming that turned HBO into a ratings and awards juggernaut. He stuck with shows like THE SOPRANOS and REAL TIME WITH BILL MAHER, even though they had slow starts when initially finding their audiences. Producers, directors, writers, and actors loved having a home at HBO back then. Word on the street is that that HBO is gone. Perhaps with the new regime came a new philosophy and culture that seems to invite audience grumbling, as evidenced by all of the insightful laments y'all have posted about the sudden demises of DEADWOOD, THE WIRE, CARNIVALE, et. al.

Honestly, that's what scares me about season 3 of IT. Deadwood had a following and won awards. Great script and good acting. However, it was suddenly gone! I hope IT does not suffer the same fate.

ditto, Touched ditto, Windhover and ditto, knowshimwell Deadwood was one of the all time GREAT HBO series. I've never forgiven them for what they did.... of course, IT helped soften my heart towards HBO a bit, but unlike some others, I'm not surprised about their lack of comment on a season 3. I won't be surprised if we never hear anything. that's exactly how they handled Deadwood's demise, despite it's critical acclaim and award-winning performances and writing... it was just incredible!

As a lover of literature and words, and a fan of all things Shakespearean, I could not agree with you more, Touched and Windhover!! Was there a better line in Deadwood than when Woo would say, "Swearingen, cocksxxker!"? I think not! LOL-Loved it! The language of the series was poetic in its own right and that's what made it so unique. If people were offended by the dialogue, they missed the point of the story and its characterizations. I loved Calamity Jane, too...her character was true to form to the real Jane from those times. Damn, that was a great show!!!

> It was like Shakespeare... Oddly enough (or not), "Shakespearean" is the first word that popped into my mind when I listened to the dialogue. It was so incredibly dense - more literary than spoken. -- Edited by Windhover at 10/18/2009 8:46 AM PDT

Ian McShane was awesome in that > role!! I want more!!!!!!!! Best fookin' show ever...I am just sayin' I love me some Deadwood. And you know, so many people couldn't see past the vulgar language long enough to realize the absolute poetry of the dialogue in that series. People tell me that they couldn't get into it because of that and it just stymies me. I am speechless. I thought it was that good. A brilliant gem of a show. It was like Shakespeare with the words "cocksucker" and "c_nt" thrown in...I know many couldnt get past it but damn it was a fabulous series. I love me some Deadwood -- Edited by TouchedByThPoet at 10/17/2009 2:40 PM PDT

I can't forget (and forgive) that HBO is the channel that cancelled Deadwood... Oh, Windhover, I'm STILL lamenting the loss of Deadwood. I felt they dropped that series with no closure. Ian McShane was awesome in that role!! I want more!!!!!!!!

I can't forget (and forgive) that HBO is the channel that cancelled Deadwood, Rome and Carnivale. They should have a separate HBO channel just for reruns (OK, encores, reprises, ...) and throw Dream On and Larry Sanders into the mix. -- Edited by Windhover at 10/17/2009 11:54 AM PDT

Arghhh! We're in sync, Neek, just what I was thinking as I logged on. Though, you know, we are such an easily distracted culture, here and gone. Not sure that HBO would have the patience and not be looking for the next big thing.

That is always a posibility, but I think if they are going to do it we might have to wait at least a year, maybe not till 2011, however Gabriel will still be a great actor, he'll still have the "mojo" and may be more than ready to get to work. It's the not knowing that makes it so hard! Arghhh!

My initial thought/hope was that the production company might be shopping IT to other premium channels such as Showtime, but I just realized that HBO owns Showtime (or they have a common owner). Ah, the joys of media consolidation! A longer shot would be a commercial channel like AMC, which already has "Mad Men" and "Breaking Bad" and might be looking to strengthen its image as a high-quality niche channel, but I can' t get my head around the throught of an IT with commercial interruptions (let's see...Zoloft? Abilify? Ugh!).
