Prepare to faint . . .

There is some serious Gabriel zeitgeist going around these days, what with recent announcements about the release of Leningrad next year, word of his involvement in At Swim Two Birds, the Emmy awards earlier this week (which are crap, but, hey, we got to see our guy searching for his seat on live TV! ), and, the crowning touch, our very own thread sisters LadyLeslie and iamyuneek going to the Irish film festival tomorrow night to see SFH and hear MH speak! I have a strong feeling they will get to meet and personally interact with the man himself in less than 24 hours.

How appropriate that at this penultimate hour of excitement, I checked my mailbox and discovered my own latest Gabriel treasure inside, 6 slides of him (purportedly original) that I bought from a collector. These were taken around the time of Defense of the Realm, a film I find woefully under-discussed in terms of his breathtaking beauty in it.

If you are not of the latter conviction, you will be after you view the following scans. That is, if you are still alive after viewing the following scans. These are lethal. They CAN kill. But, fortunately, I believe they could also bring any dead woman back to life. So if you die, have your next of kin send these into the ether, and I've no doubt you will return to us.

The first couple of pics suffer from motion blur/soft focus, but they get better as they go. Technical imperfections notwithstanding, viewing these photos -- and realizing that they depict only a fraction of the man's inner beauty -- emboldens me to say that he is the single best, most incontrovertible argument for the desirability of human cloning. (Just think, we could ALL have a Gabriel of our own!:-p)

But enough with verbal preludes. Anything I say will be excruciatingly trite and inadequate next to the pictures themselves, so, without further adieu, I offer these as a sendoff to 'neek and LL as they embark on their Gabriel adventure of tomorrow.

P.S. - Don't say you weren't warned!

Aha!
Thanks for the explanation Inspired.
I have to admit that sometimes I do not understand everything that I read or hear in English, and it is great to have people here that can enlighten me about things like this.
I agree about that Gabriel probably find it a bit more easy to handle heterosexual compliments than gay ones. But I guess he learned something about gay men when he worked in the gay bar as a young man in Dublin.
He was asked if he was gay, and he said yes. (In the gay bar.) Because he thought he was asked if he was Gay (Gabriel...). And after all his name are Gabriel, and it can be shortened in different ways...

I'm in complete agreement that it was a really crappy interview and that (whatever her intentions) it was poor taste to bring up the stuff about "licking him all over".

Noraa, early in the interview, Couric quoted that a male viewer in Paris said something about "not being able to take his eyes off" Gabriel when watching the show. I think Gabriel was thrown off so much by Couric making fun of the groupie stuff (it came up again at the end of the interview) that, in an almost throw away comment, he agreed it was weird, "especially the male guy in Paris".

That could be read as him being more averse to a male having that kind of infatuation/implied sexual interest in him than a female. Deep down, that's probably true, but I think the reason it came out so glibly was because he was struggling to say something agreeable to Couric's repeated fun-making, and that was the first thing that popped in his head.

I have never liked the interview with Katie Couric.
To me she is like a infatuated but rude child in her "Treatment" with Gabriel.
So I really feel bad when I watch that interview. I think that Gabe was more kind to her, than many other guys would be. And the "lick him all over" question is so childish and rude to ask him about. I think : Shit, oh Jaysus, don't ask him about that, when I hear that question. Even if it has been written here in HBO before my time, I don't think it is polite to ask him about that. And I don't like that expression anyway. It is just not respectful.

Gabriel is a great actor and a very intelligent man, and he deserves good questions, not really bad ones.

By the way, I did not understand his answer about the
guy from Paris. Is that a kind of expression in English?
What does he mean by that?

even though she just as clearly (if unintentionally) looked to me as though she'd like to give him a good licking herself.

Appreciate your reasoning IBG and yes she probably is much more aware of him than just that one interview, but I still think she was being facetious, and I did not see her smouldering at ALL, and I was really trying to see it honest. He looked perplexed at the end like he was wasnt sure how to take her remarks, but he got himself out of it very nicely with humor about the guy from Paris.

But in the scheme of things who cares what Katie Couric thinks. Her questions were a waste of Gabe's time. He could have been home putting a poultis on that thing on his head.

Not a fan of Katie Couric, but my read on her attitude in the interview was that she was trying to engage Gabriel in an "inside" joke about how immature and superficial certain fans of the show must be to be talking about how sexy he is when he licks his lips or wanting to "lick him all over" when the show itself was dealing with very serious topics like child sexual abuse.

Since he has lived in NY for years and done high profile stage work there, I suspect Couric is familiar with some of his work and might well have seen him in Moon or Touch of the Poet (or both). I'd even say there's a good chance she's met him previously.

Like any red-blooded woman, she couldn't have done that without being impressed by all of him, and I think her making fun of his groupie fans wasn't because she felt him less worthy of groupies than any other actor but because she was trying to impress him that her appreciation of him was so much "higher" and deeper and more sophisticated, even though she just as clearly (if unintentionally) looked to me as though she'd like to give him a good licking herself.:-D

karenW, I suppose what may have thrown me and others about your initial comment was that you said this thread reminded you of that interview. Especially now that I'm aware of your opinion on the interview, can you elaborate on the connection you see between the two?

Ok, that's a different take, I'll have to watch it again, or not. But either way he is the one with gravitas and dignity. She's not worth thinking about.

Well thank goodness Karen, I thught I was going mad...that I was the only one who saw it so differently. I thought the interview was not flattering to Gabe at all. l also thought she was being obnoxious when talking about Gabe getting all that attention on the HBO boards, she said with a smirk in her voice "isn't that funny?" like she thought it odd he should be getting that kind of attention, but he handled it with humor and grace. He came off a lot better than she did.

Thanks, Lozzie. I don't know how to do that. I was hoping someone would post it.

I thought that Katie Couric was being pretentious and obnoxious with Gabriel.

Instead of doing her job, she had her own agenda.
I am proud of the way Gabriel handled her.

Lady L, I love to make you happy. Sing your heart out, girl.

I'm off to Bright Angel, Jane Campion's new film, (Remember The Piano!) Another one of those films which if it was being made in young MH days, he would be the only actor to play Keats!

Yup. That line's already stretching down about 5 city-centre blocks, around the corner, up the fire-escape, through someone's living room, out the door, down the stairs, out the lobby, across the pedestrian crossing, through the Women's Undergarments section of Beales, and into the Vegan restaurant on the corner of Fifth and Vine.

I have no idea what I am talking about. But when has that ever stopped me?
