Sorry, putting the claws back in (meow!). I'm still hung up on the Switzerland thing. The guy who wrote this article even put, "on the other side of the world ..." If GB WAS yanking his chain and SAID he was in Switzerland (when he was actually at his home in Brooklyn), I guess that wouldn't show up on caller ID (if using a cell phone?). I'm thinking about this TOO much! UGH!

> Actually, the comment that he made when he was in Dingle about "room service of a kind" was - I'm sure - directed to the fact that SHE was staying with him (or was there in the room at the time of the call). I agree, jtom. As soon as he said it, I had a vision of her in the room trying hard not to laugh, despite GB's best efforts.

Oh, ychow, you're a bad, bad girl. And here I thought there were people out there making fun of our MadHandsome for saying that. Actually, the comment that he made when he was in Dingle about "room service of a kind" was - I'm sure - directed to the fact that SHE was staying with him (or was there in the room at the time of the call). OKAY - on to another subject. HOW do we find out WHAT he was filming in Switzerland? Does someone want to contact the original author of that article via e-mail (in sort of a concerned sort of fashion - "ooooh, I'm so sorry to hear that Gabriel Byrne is sick; I'm a fan of Season 2; is he filming THAT in Switzerland or something else?). Basically something like that - someone with better writing skills than mine!? PLEASE!

I grew up in Europe, so I'm not rendering an opinion here, I'm talking about what I know. Wine, beer and champagne are common, everyday beverages and European children are acculturated to drink it for dinner and lunch and celebrations...so it's no big deal. Children are commonly found in pubs, bistros, bars and gasthauses all the time where alcohol is served and consumed...it's no big deal in those countries...and it occurs in all European countries, including Ireland. McDonald's serves beer and wine in European countries. Just like it's common for dogs to be brought into restaurants and cafes. They sit quietly under the table or on banquettes while Europeans eat and chat and it's no big deal. The whole family, including the dogs, are out to dinner. Winefests and beerfests are a part of the traditions throughout Europe to celibrate harvests and ancient feasts days. Gabriel is European...he's hardly affected by the consumption of wine, beer or champagne in close proximity to him, I'm sure, because it's what Europeans do. -- Edited by LadyLeslie at 01/21/2009 10:49 PM PST

I think Gabriel has a wicked sense of humor and he "puts on" people when they interview him. Remember in "STORIES" when he described his flooded house then he waited one second and laughed. Gabriel is European- technically and geographically- but I think his childhood was influenced more from being Catholic, and Irish. Catholicism is full of superstition, and constraining to the mind. Being Irish made him feel oppressed by the English. When I think of European parents giving their children wine, I think of Italy and France.

At least he wasn't "specific" about what they were "doing" on said couch, but by saying that he "inferred it." Or was the celebration in question just an innocent champagne/tea toast? The inferring seems to be on the part of wicked little us. Sorta reminds me when, in his phone interview with Ryan Tubridy at Dingle in September, GB mentioned "I have a room service, of a kind". It caught Ryan up short for a split second, but he (wisely) let it go. Whatta scamp!

Okay, gals, we agree to disagree on the champagne. Let's call it a day, okay? Interesting note, TMel, about "The Snow Prince." It seems that THIS film has been knocking about for over three years (it was ORIGINALLY set to be released in January 2006 and starred a completely different case - Richard Attenborough for one!). The synopsis of the film reads as follows: A magical Christmas tale of an old curse and unrequited love from Medieval times which changes a young widow's life when she sculpts a life-sized prince from the snow. Her little girl's Christmas Eve prayer for a father is answered when the prince comes alive. Interesting, ummm!

Hey guys........I'm gonna just give my 2 cents worth on this one....... I personally think, that if someone decides to quit something........ie.......smoking, drinking, eating junk food.........it doesn't matter one bit what other people around them do. It really doesn't. I've quit smoking, and I've dieted my entire life since puberty. When I decide to quit something, I JUST DO IT. And it doesn't bother me at all. Now, I have fallen off of the wagon on both issues before, BUT, not because someone beside me has lit a cigarette, or is eating a bag of chips. And, I've also got back on the wagon, solely because I've decided to. It really is one of the most simple things, and yet, one of the most difficult. You have to really want to quit whatever your vice may be. If you don't want to, you won't. If you do, you will. Regardless what anyone around you is doing. And now, I want a cigarette, while eating a chocolate bar. Yeesh.........

Hmmmmm, I don't know y'all......Gabriel is European....they grow up with wine, beer and champagne as common as table water. There aren't underage limits on wine, beer and champagne in most European countries, and even those countries with de jure practices don't have de facto practices. Their attitude toward wine, beer and champagne, like that of cigarettes and strong coffee, is that it's fairly common and so no big deal. I don't know that Gabriel would struggle with wine, beer and champagne consumption in close proximity....for Europeans, that's like breathing and everybody does it. I'm glad that he doesn't miss drinking, as he stated in SFH....it would be brutal to crave and yearn for something one can't have while surrounded by everyone else enjoying that very thing one craves. He sounded happy, and if he's happy, I'm happy for him. As a lifelong teetotaler, I'm constantly in situations where other folks imbibe hard libations and it engenders no temptation or desire at all. I admire GB's fortitude because he obviously abstains of his own volition. If he's enjoying his life, then more power to him. -- Edited by LadyLeslie at 01/21/2009 2:44 PM PST

Sorry, I'm with Touched on this one (and, no, you're not flaming anyone, my dear, we're having a nice, friendly discussion). First of all, when you two DO get married, I promise that I won't drink in front of him if he's in the room (but, of course, that's ONLY if you invite me over to the brownstone!). Okay, gals, I still have issues with the drinking - especially since it was just the TWO of them (as he made QUITE clear in that interview). Also, there was a sighting several months back when someone saw them in a BAR together in Boston (it was a "nice" bar - the blogger gave the name of it - but it was STILL a bar!). So this wasn't an "isolated" incident. And I'm really not ready to call them "life-partners" yet. And that livejournal article sort of made it like, hardy, ha, ha - Gabriel Byrne had a "private" party with his girlfriend "on the couch." For someone so intensely "private" himself, I can't imagine him coming out and making this statement to a member of the press (did he think he was just shooting the breeze "with a friend" and that it wouldn't be printed). At least he wasn't "specific" about what they were "doing" on said couch, but by saying that he "inferred it." It sounds HE had the same thing I did a couple of months ago - not a stomach flu, but fever and lots of aches and pains (and you think it's gone away, and then it comes back!). Also, my doctor told me he had seen SEVERAL cases of strep throat and pneumonia. So, we can only HOPE that he gave HER some of his germs!
