STORIES FROM HOME on the EAST COAST

The Capital Irish Film Festival will be December 10 - 20, 2009 in Washington, DC.

Stories From Home is on the schedule.

One of the ladies from the Threads has contacted them asking if Gabriel will be there.

She received the following response:

"We're currently trying to get Gabriel for the festival although it'll be hard as he goes home for Christmas and the festival is in December. We do have lots of other artists involved coming in though. Tickets are set to go on sale on October 5th. Facebook is acting up so I lost your message but I think I've answered all your questions. If not, just let me know!

Thanks, Ronan"

Anyone who would be thinking about attending this festival (especially if GB is there!) should email and inquire...

Let's let them (AND HIM) know that we want him there!! Maybe, after the success of the LA screening, if he knows we want him, he'd arrange his Christmas travel schedule to accommodate the film festival ?

Just a thought.... Does that sound like something he might consider?

I'm hoping.... going to email now.

Here's the website link... let me know if you have any problem navigating it. It appears they're working on a new site.

Hey, gals. I can't add anything else to these magnificent comments about SFH that have already been posted.

However, I must say that upon the first viewing, I felt VERY sad when watching it - Gabriel's struggles with depression, his comments about "divorce," him walking alone down the streets of NYC ....

.... BUT THEN upon future viewings, I realized how lovely and special Gabriel Byrne - the human-being - really is. This is really a "warts and all" documentary (no, the man has NO warts!). It makes you want to reach into the screen and hug him. And when he talks about his children (and there are some PRECIOUS scenes with his kids when they were younger), there's just that "awwwww" factor that's really incredible and makes you love him even more. And then there's the incredibly FUNNY Gabe that makes you just want to laugh out loud.

Yes, Windover, I'd also like to hear from the director of this project. Didn't Gabriel say at the Q&A in CA, Neek, that it "wasn't the film" that he "would have made"? Did he elaborate on that?

Also, I'd LOVE to see what ended up on the cutting room floor!! I read somewhere that the director had hours and hours and hours of additional footage - not only conversations with Gabriel, but with friends/family/actors, AND additional "home" footage. AND I would have LOVED to have seen his home after it was put back together (and not packed into boxes!).

Counting the days!!! ;)

It's a shame Pat Collins, the director, lives in Ireland (well, no shame, really, only that he too would probably be home for the holidays at this time, just like Gabriel). This sounds blasphemous, but I would almost prefer to get Mr. Collins in a Q&A session about SFH (sans GB). I'd like to know how he came to make the film that he did (I recall some comment he made about changing direction in the process of filming or editing); what ended up on the cutting room floor; what film Gabriel thought he was making (didn't GB say it wasn't the film he (GB) would have made?); etc., etc. Maybe it's just because I have a personal interest in the editing process, but I would have loved to see the dailies and be the fly on the wall of the editing booth.

VRN, for me, SFH just reinforces and amplifies many of the reasons that I love this guy so much. His propensity for reflection and earnest appraisal of both himself and the world around him is on full display. And the segment where he starts reading from Moon for the Misbegotten and launches into related revelations about his own past is positively riveting.

One of the things I love most about the film is that he is completely unglamorized in it: no make up, no intricate lighting, no special wardrobe or grooming. He looks like he would look if you lived with him and he got up and got dressed for a day of just hanging around the house. And that ironically made him more attractive (not beautiful, but attractive) to me than he's ever been in any other context.

If Gabe doesn't change his mind and show up, you may be disappointed that you didn't get the icing and cherry on the cake. But you won't be disappointed that you went to DC to see this film.;)

Call me crazy, and maybe I am, but I have a feeling things will change last minute. I don't know how (although I think I know why), but I still have this premonition that he will show up.

As a point of comparison, which is not in any way the basis for this feeling, consider that he had not even answered the invitation to the LA screening when the organizer saw him at a post Emmys party. It was only then that he was made to understand folks were actually INTERESTED in a film about him and that he apparently made the relatively last minute decision to attend a few days later.

Feel free to laugh if it turns out otherwise, but I'm still going with the expectation of meeting him.;)

Hi VRN, it will be the best Christmas present you ever got. Believe it or not, you will feel a connection with him like you never had before.

It will make you laugh, (he is so adorably funny.) It will make you gasp, it will make you tear up and wish you could crawl inside the screen to show him how much you feel for him. It will make you envy his neighbors. It will make you wonder why this man can go walking the streets of New York without any fanfare or ceremony. (What is up with these people? lol.)

He is so gorgeous it hurts, but I think you will know that this man (named by an angel,) is everything you have ever thought he was and more, he is totally incomparable and yet so unfailingly human. You will come away thanking him with all your heart for having made Stories from Home.

My heart is heavy for you guys. But you know what, I am positive Solas Nua has given Gabriel the news about all the support and sponsorship that has been given (to them) because of him. Just know he will carry that in his heart, and I can bet they will also send him a copy of the program with all the names in it. Plus you guys are going to have a blast, I really really wish I was going, if it had been Dec 10th my flight would be booked already.

What a fantastic time you guys are going to have, and yes I PROMISE you the movie alone is worth it!

They will probably have reserved seats at the back like they did in LA, take advantage of that girls, the view will be e better from the back of the theatre.

I agree with all of you, you never know, things can change in a heartbeat. Plus its Christmas in Washington DC, you lucky ducks will get to see the biggest Christmas tree in the nation!!

I have seen the film.

I loved every minute of it. He is so candid about his life. His fears. His disappointments. He doesn't hide anything.

It makes you love him more...and I seriously didn't think it was possible to love him more...but it does...

I can't wait to see it on the big screen.

You will not be disappointed....and you will leave the theatre, thinking you HAVE met him...for real.

Good Morning
Having recovered from yesterday's bad (but not entirely unexpected) news, I am now trying to prepare myself for the full experience of SFH.

I would like to ask a favor of any sister who has been lucky enough to see this film:
would you share your impressions of it, what you enjoyed the most, what surprised you , impressed you, what made you feel especially sad or uplifted, anything at all.

thanks for taking the time to reply

OMG, VirginiaRN, I am now in a funk. Thought I'd have Gabe under the tree for Christmas. ;)

HOWEVER, all of us are STILL going to be together in DC, celebrating Gabriel, and SFH, and that's FANTASTIC!!

And, of course, things could change with Gabriel's schedule? I have a feeling with these frequent visits to DC (including the event on Nov. 16 - gosh, that's just a few days away) that there will be plenty of opportunities for the Solus Nua people to still make contact with Himself. Fingers crossed.

Interesting on the ADL thingy - their website has Gabriel's name as one of the co-hosts, but the video that goes along with it only lists Liev Schreiber as the host (was Gabriel a last-minute addition?). This event is known for its celebrity "hosts" - last year the cast of "Mad Men" hosted the concert.

Chin up, VRN. This was, of course, always a possibility. You will still get to see and enjoy this doc of him on a big screen and commune (commiserate?, LOL) with other GB fans.

Personally, I'm not going to rule out a last minute change of heart, some change of his plans that allows him to attend. It's Christmas, afterall. Miracles do happen, sometimes.:)
