In Which Time Zone Do You Watch "IT? "/Share a Random Fact.

No doubt "IT" viewers come from far and wide, but in many ways, we are likely a homogeneous group. If you are comfortable, share your time zone and/or the city in which you live, along with any other random fact you would like your fellow forum members to know about you or your reaction(s) to IT or these forums.

Eastern - I live in Philly, so should you come to this city and see someone who fits that description sitting in B & N, I hope you will come over and say hi.

Gotta give the shout-out to B&N, Stella and DSM.

Big overstuffed chairs, a cup of hot chai tea, and a stack of magazines and books (none of which I'm BUYING, mind you - just looking through).

VERY comforting!

BTW, DSM, what "timezone" are you in?

Ok. I'm working on it. Just trying to work out how to connect my bike in the past to Gabriel Byrne in the present...

My favorite place to go and escape: Barnes
> & Noble.

I must agree that this too, is my favorite pleasure (well, maybe second favorite). The sense of peace and well-being from sitting quietly in an overstuffed chair, engrossed in a wonderful book while sipping on an iced black tea, almost defies description. I also relish the fact that after a very trying day, B & N & Borders feel so very insulating. Thanks for your post.

Time zone: Arizona Time! (so right now, that's Pacific Time...in the fall we will be on Mountain Time...very stupid and confusing)

Random facts: I'm a wife, a mom, a business owner, a landlord and an "Armchair Doctor/Therapist/Detective". I have a lot of hobbies but have been consumed for months cleaning, patching, painting one of my rentals so I can sell the money pit!! Ask me about home improvement...I've learned to caulk and drill and could hang out at Ace Hardware for hours. My favorite place to go and escape: Barnes & Noble. I had my last child at 41 and she's a delight....it's not too late, Mia!!

I suppose it's my turn to share . . .

Hobbies: hiking with my dog, dining with friends & going to various events with them, reading, exercising, attending concerts. I watch very little tv, except for HBO (IT & True Blood). I go through periods where I might see several movies within a short amount of time and then not see one for a few years. (Anyone else do this?) Musical tastes include, but are certainly not limited to the Beatles and Eric Clapton. My mother thinks I am a smart-ass and what can I say? She is right.

I love psychology and being a therapist, most especially the practice of cognitive-behavioral psych, I love teaching and learning. Frankly, a part of me wishes I could be a perpetual student and do nothing but attend classes and accrue degrees. Now back to the real world . . .

(If anyone is interested, I refer you to www.happier.com. This is the web site for Martin Seligman, Ph.D., University of Penn Professor and the founder of Positive Psychology. Exercises on the site are predicated upon the latest psychological research, and individuals who avail themselves of the exercises and readings report feeling significantly happier in their lives. I wanted to share this since several individuals who posted on this thread reported experiencing some depression. The site is free of charge and I have no affiliation with it or Dr. Seligman, I simply want to pass on something which might be helpful.)

Alma Maters - Penn & UCSD

I am relatively new to this site but have been enjoying it very much. I have found people on this forum to be bright, psychologically sophisticated and open regarding their insights and feelings.

Yet another post in which someone describes what could most aptly be characterized as a "tortured intellectual."

glass half-full = optimism
glass half-empty = pessimism
glass has 4 oz. liquid = realism

My first year there was very disconcerting since it was the holiday season and people were shopping in shorts!

Hahahahaha....darn tootin', DSM, we Los Angelenos wouldn't know what to do if we couldn't get up on Thanksgiving morning and put on our shorts!! Yes, we put on sundresses to go Christmas shopping....it is weird to see the mall trying to import fake snow for Santa's sleigh when it's 80 degrees outside.

I watch IT in the PST zone -- twice. The show airs twice...at 6 PM our time with the East Coast, then again at 9 PM in regular scheduling. I went to visit a friend in St. Petersburg, Florida back in April and actually had to wait until 9 PM to watch IT....it was brutal.

Hmmmmm, homogeneous group? Dunno if I can go there with you, but would agree that any semblence of homogeneity rests in loving IT, appreciating the talents of Gabriel Byrne, appreciating smart writing and superb acting.

I would skew Livvy's list a bit....I'm extroverted, not prone to depression at all, sunny personality, and very grounded spiritually (though that is very different from being religious by my definition)....I have a relationship with God, but don't believe in imposing my beliefs on others.

I have a post-graduate degree in public policy, work as a marketing executive, have a passion for interior design, fashion, antique-hunting, music (I sing and play piano), movies, foreign languages, travel, entertaining, and reading.

Heterosexual....I love men, so I have fun studying and talking with them a lot....tall, handsome, intelligent, charming, sweet, articulate, spiritual, confident...not necessarily in that order....and I keep an open mind. Glass is always half-full....I've been blessed.

Posting from 8 miles north of Berkeley, California. Interesting to read of those who have relocated. Myself, my husband and my two teens relocated from Chicago area in 2002, because the air pollution was making it hard for me to breathe. The Bush admin had been putting in Coal Fired Peaker Plants that spread mercury and pollution, and it eventually made the air much dirtier. Scary move, that I just barely survived. Feels like "being born again" to quote the Zero Mostel character in Fiddler on the Roof.

I'm watching In Treatment because of Mr. Byrne, and the high quality of acting in the show. Sometimes it feels a bit like window peeping to watch, but I do anyway. Too fascinating to stop!

I came of age in the seventies. Have a post-graduate degree. Am a classically trained Soprano, who now likes to write her own folk songs and sing them. Also, love to jazz dance. Stopped Aikido while I could still walk (the brown belt knee techniques are killers). Have a degree in acting, and did a lot of it in Illinois (unpaid), but haven't recently. Am now concentrating on writing screenplays, and just today hauled out my two unpublished novels, wondering if its worth giving them another edit.

Agnostic, and feel God's presence every moment. Definitely liberal, but not always PC. Common sense rules me, most of the time. And very talkative - typical Geminii I suppose.

Hello to all!

Livvy, thanks so much for your post! Lots of good info there. Some friends from CA moved to Memphis (Bartlett, actually) last year and love it, but the high rate of violent crime does concern me. The people are very friendly, but I heard about how neighbors would ask right off the bat "What church do you attend?" My friends were shocked, and stammered "Well, we're from California, we really don't go to church regularly."

I guess it's kind of a trade off. Here, people may seem less friendly in big cities but they usually mind their own business.

Oh, and the liquor laws seem bizarre to me - going to a special store even to buy wine, and never on Sunday, yet passengers in your car are allowed to drink and on Beale Street you can walk around drinking in public. LOL
