This is totally OT (but, I guess, it CAN be related to IT since Liam Neeson is a dear and close friend of Gabriel Byrne's) - This is being run in all the major publications (NYTimes, BBC News, etc) and is horrible news - please keep Natasha Richardson, Liam Neeson, and their family in your thoughts and prayers - and that she will have a successful recovery. http://www.thestar.com/entertainment/article/603508

and now this..... NEW YORK (CNN) -- Natasha Richardson, a film star, Tony-winning stage actress and member of the famed Redgrave acting family, died Wednesday after suffering injuries in a ski accident, according to a family statement. She was 45. Natasha Richardson fell on a beginners' slope in Canada. 1 of 3 more photos » Richardson, wife of actor Liam Neeson, was injured Monday in a fall on a ski slope at a Quebec resort about 80 miles northwest of Montreal. Richardson's family released a statement saying, "Liam Neeson, his sons, and the entire family are shocked and devastated by the tragic death of their beloved Natasha. They are profoundly grateful for the support, love and prayers of everyone, and ask for privacy during this very difficult time." According to a statement from Mont Tremblant Ski Resort, Richardson fell during a lesson on a beginners' trail. "She did not show any visible sign of injury, but the ski patrol followed strict procedures and brought her back to the bottom of the slope and insisted she should see a doctor," the statement said. Richardson, accompanied by her instructor, returned to her hotel, but about an hour after the fall was "not feeling good," the statement said. An ambulance was called, and Richardson was taken to a local hospital before being transferred to Hopital du Sacre-Coeur in Montreal. From there she was transferred to Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. Richardson was practically born to perform. Her grandfather, Sir Michael Redgrave, was a famed British actor. Her mother, Vanessa Redgrave, is an Oscar-winning actress, and her father, the late director Tony Richardson, helmed such films as "Look Back in Anger," "The Entertainer" and the Oscar-winning "Tom Jones." Don't Miss Natasha Richardson part of legendary acting family 'Minor' head injuries can be serious, experts say iReport.com: Share your memories of Richardson Natasha Richardson's uncle Corin Redgrave, aunt Lynn Redgrave, and sister Joely Richardson are also noted performers. But being part of a family of actors wasn't always easy for Richardson. Her parents divorced when she was 4 and her mother, involved in controversial political causes, gave away a lot of money, putting the family in financial straits, according to the BBC. Then there was the family heritage, of which Richardson once said, "Though my name opened doors it didn't get me work, and a lot of pressure comes from having a mother who is considered one of the greatest actresses of her generation," the BBC reported. Richardson's first film role was a bit part in her father's "The Charge of the Light Brigade" (1968), made when she was 4. After a handful of roles through her teens and early 20s, she broke through as Mary Shelley in Ken Russell's film "Gothic," and followed that up as Patty Hearst in Paul Schrader's 1988 film of the same name. Richardson's other notable films included "The Handmaid's Tale" (1990); the TV movie "Zelda" (1993); "Nell" (1994), alongside Neeson, whom she married in 1994; the 1998 remake of "The Parent Trap"; and "Wild Child" (2008). But some of Richardson's greatest successes were on the stage. At 22, she played opposite her mother and Jonathan Pryce in a London production of Anton Chekhov's "The Seagull"; the performance earned her the London Drama Critics' most promising newcomer award. She won a Tony for her performance as Sally Bowles in the 1998 revival of "Cabaret" and earned raves for her Blanche DuBois in a 2005 production of "A Streetcar Named Desire." She was scheduled to perform in a revival of Stephen Sondheim's "A Little Night Music" this year, following a January benefit performance of the show. She and Neeson have two children, Michael and Daniel. Richardson was married to Robert Fox from 1990 to 1994. E-mail to a friend Share this on: Mixx Digg Facebook del.icio.us

Sadly, the latest report... Report: Actress Natasha Richardson Taken Off Life Support MONTREAL (AP/1010 WINS) -- Members of Natasha Richardson's family are gathered at a New York hospital where the Tony-winning actress was taken with a serious head injury after falling on a Canadian ski slope. PHOTO GALLERY: Actress Natasha Richardson Richardson, 45, part of the Redgrave dynasty of British actors and the wife of Liam Neeson, was flown from Montreal to New York on Tuesday after the accident,. On Wednesday, gossip columnist and family friend Liz Smith reported that Richardson had been taken off life support. "Everybody in the family ? Liam, the two boys, Vanessa, Lynn Redgrave, Joely Richardson ? have all been in the hospital with Natasha, and word is in at 1:30 PM Wednesday they have taken Natasha off of life support. This is not unexpected," Smith posted on the Web site wowwowwow.com. Richardson is the elder daughter of Oscar-winning Redgrave and the late director Tony Richardson. She fell during a private lesson Monday at the famed Mont Tremblant ski resort. A statement from the Mont Tremblant resort said Richardson fell on a beginners trail and later reported not feeling well. "She did not show any visible sign of injury but the ski patrol followed strict procedures and brought her back to the bottom of the slope and insisted she should see a doctor," said the statement from the resort, about 80 miles northwest of Montreal. The ski resort said the instructor and a member of the ski patrol accompanied Richardson to her hotel, where they again recommended she be seen by a doctor. Mont Tremblant spokeswoman Catherine Lacasse said Richardson said she seemed fine at first. "An hour later she said she didn't feel well. She had a headache, so we sent her to the hospital," Lacasse said. "There were no signs of impact and no blood, nothing." The New York Times quoted Lyne Lortie, a spokeswoman for Mont Tremblant, as saying Richardson wasn't wearing a helmet. Richardson's films include "Gothic," "A Month in the Country," "Nell" (in which she appeared with her future husband), "The Parent Trap" and "Maid in Manhattan." Trained at London's Central School of Speech and Drama, Richardson has had extensive stage experience in the West End and Broadway. She won a Tony in 1998 for playing Sally Bowles in a revival of "Cabaret." Her maternal grandparents were the actors Michael Redgrave and Rachel Kempson, and her uncle Corin and aunt Lynn Redgrave are both actors. Sister Joely Richardson is also an actress, best known for starring in the TV series "Nip/Tuck." In January, Richardson and her mother played the roles of mother and daughter in a one-night benefit concert version of "A Little Night Music," the Stephen Sondheim-Hugh Wheeler musical, at Studio 54 in New York. She married Neeson in 1994, and the couple have two sons, aged 13 and 12. Inset Photos Top to Bottom

This is so tragic and my heart is breaking for her and her family. I fervently hope that prayers can be answered. > Did anyone see her in Caberet on Broadway? Yes, and she was incandescent. This accident is a personal tragedy for the Richardson/Redgrave/Neeson families but it is also tragic for the theatre world. Like her relatives, she is a brilliant actress.

I may be in denial, but am not willing to give up hope until there's an "official statement" from the family. I'm always hesitant - even with a well-known publication such as People Magazine - to "take for gospel" a statement made by a "family member who wishes to remain anonymous."

Richardson?s condition ?very serious? Family friend tells People.com ?there is no chance? for recovery http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/26184891/vp/29752140#29752140 MONTREAL - Members of Natasha Richardson?s family gathered at a New York hospital where the Tony-winning actress was reportedly taken with a serious head injury after falling on a Canadian ski slope. Richardson, 45, part of the Redgrave dynasty of British actors and the wife of Liam Neeson, was flown from Montreal to New York on Tuesday after the accident, a person close to the family, who asked not to be identified because of the sensitivity of the matter, told The Associated Press on Tuesday. Richardson?s condition was very serious and her family was highly distressed, The New York Times reported Wednesday, citing two people close to her family who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to reporters. A reporter from the Toronto Star earlier reported seeing a distraught Neeson crouched inside the back of an ambulance at Montreal?s Sacre-Coeur hospital as Richardson, wrapped in blankets and with tubes covering her face, was loaded inside. Neeson had immediately left the Toronto set of his upcoming movie, ?Chloe,? to be by her side in Montreal, a publicist for the film said. Later that evening, a somber looking Vanessa Redgrave, Richardson?s mother, was seen in photographs walking into Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. Two boys, identified in photos as her sons, Micheal Richard Antonio Neeson and Daniel Jack Neeson, and a young woman identified as niece Daisy Bevan were seen leaving the hospital early Wednesday. Richardson?s condition and the specifics of her injury could not immediately be determined. I heard about Natasha Richardson's accident and immediately thought of everyone on the IT threads, because of the connection to Liam. I don't know anymore than anyone else -- except I do know that you can sustain a brain injury from a fall or other trauma and feel fine immediately afterwards, but then get terribly sick because there has been injury to the brain (a bleed) all along. I hope she recovers -- she is a grea actress and they seem like a really together family. Did anyone see her in Caberet on Broadway?

As I type this it is 3:04 Chicago time, and the reports are confusing. All we can do is pray for her; I hope perhaps it is a medically controlled swelling. Please, let her recover! -- Thanks to Stella, stories will be found at: http://bertiestories.googlepages.com "Unknown forces rule more absolutely than the truth." -Mel Profitt, Wiseguys

It is TRULY horrible (and, yes, NR appeared in "Gothic" with GB - it was her FIRST movie!) I'm seeing conflicting reports - one that she's still alive and NOT brain dead (but with brain swelling). I am loathe to follow stories that "family members have reported" this information . . . since I doubt they would contact TMZ or some of these rags. Also, the original reports said she had a "skiing accident" which resulted in "head injuries," when in fact she simply fell down (never hit anything), and was laughing and was escorted back to her room by paramedics. It was an hour later when she reported having a terrible headache and the staff called 911. I'm not wanting to "diagnose" here, but it sounds similar to a brain aneurysm. One of our local reporters just suffered from the same affliction and passed away a few days ago (he was in his early 60s, but had suffered from diabetes and high blood pressure for years). I'm STILL praying for Natasha Richardson's recovery. Lord have mercy - her poor boys and, of course, Liam! And on St. Patrick's Day, of all things!!

I feel so awful for her family......she was only 45 and didnt' she appear in Gothic with our guy? Reports: Actress Natasha Richardson Is Brain Dead MONTREAL (AP) -- British actress Natasha Richardson was hospitalized after falling on a beginners trail at the famed Mont Tremblant ski resort during a lesson, the resort and published reports said Tuesday. IrishCentral.com reported that the Tony Award-winning actress and wife of Liam Neeson was in critical condition with a head injury. She had a headache, so we sent her to the hospital,'' Lacasse said. "There were no signs of impact and no blood, nothing.'' An ambulance was called and Richardson was brought to the Centre Hospitalier Laurentien in Ste-Agathe and was later transferred to Hopital du Sacre-Coeur in Montreal. An employee at Hopital du Sacre-Coeur in Montreal said they didn't have a Richardson at the hospital after intiailly saying they did early Tuesday. I just read this in the news and I felt very bad to hear it. I've met Liam Neeson a few times and he is just a wonderful, everyday-type-of- guy! He's very easy to speak with and makes one feel very comfortable in his presence. He's not as reserved as his friend, Gabriel. In interviews he always speaks fondly of his wife and is devoted to his sons. They say it's a head injury and it sounds very serious; I dearly hope she recovers from this accident.
