In his 173 years on the earth, this vampire has seen more than his share of cruelty and violence - from humans and vampires alike. While he holds no illusions about his own existence, Bill has returned to his family home of Bon Temps hoping to reconnect with whatever humanity he's managed to retain. He never expected this attempt at mainstreaming to include romance, however; especially with a human girl just strange enough to accept him for what he is.

I am enjoying all the love and affection for Bill . SM has done a fantastic job portraying him . He is the main reason I watch TB .

Sunday nite Bill Bump!!
I have read all 8 books and I recommend giving them a chance book 9 is out next year and there is a preview of chapter 1 at Charlaine's website. I plan on reading them again before season 2 starts.

I've had all of the CH books now for a few weeks but I am actually a little apprehensive about starting to read them. After reading all of the blog entries about how different book Bill is from tv Bill, I don't want to be disappointed. On the other hand, maybe I will be able to keep book Bill separate from tv Bill and be able to enjoy both the tv show and the books......

God bless AB for having the foresight to make tv Bill so appealing and wonderful to behold! He must have seen such potential in SM to make such a change from the books. It just makes the wait until next season a little bit easier for me. Not much, mind you, just a wee bit, thinking that there will be more, more, more Bill in store!

Agreed. One whole hour of Bill in a chair staring into the camera. That would be heaven. The possibilities of great stories involving Bill are endless. So much to work with . AB lets have more than a few minutes of Bill in each episode please?

We'll just have to wait and see what season 2 holds for us. I wouldn't worry too much about AB changing the way Bill is portrayed. He has to know that the reason for the shows success this season was because of him (IMO).
If AB does address the reason from the books as to why Bill "found" Sookie, I'm sure it he will add enough of himself in there to please the Bill fanatics. I'm sure Sookie will yell (SHOCKER) or even rescind her invitation yet again, but it will not be the end of Bill.
I personally cannot bring myself to finish reading books 6-8 because of the way Bill is portrayed, or lack of Bill, so I'm giving myself up to the show. It's been an amazing ride so far so I'm sure season 2 will be even better. Hopeful huh!?!?

I agree about delving into Bill's character more....that made me love Bill even more. I loved him in the books and I adore him completely in the show. His character has so much depth and he is so sexy and brooding. His dark mysterious demeanor is so appealing to me. I hope and pray that Alan Ball strays far away from the books and keeps up the relationship between Bill and Sookie unlike what Charlaine Harris did. I think the show thrives on Bill and Sookie's interactions.....well, I think the show would be great if Bill just sat in a chair the whole hour and glared into the camera but that is just me and my Bill lust!! LOL!!

I received the book paperback set for Christmas and eagerly read through books 1, 2 and 3 (in 2 days). I couldn't agree more re: Bill's portrayal in the show and Stephen Moyer's layered and sympathetic interpretation. I'm glad that they chose to delve deeper into his character in the show because it infuses the Sookie-Bill relationship with an incredibly believable chemistry and oh yeah - makes it very, very hot! Can't wait for season 2! Until then, I'll continue to watch the episodes on my DVR (thank GOD for technology).

I too have read all the books and I was and still am Team Bill. The TV Bill demonstrates the torment that dwells within him. He was and still is a moral, intelligent, charming man however, as a result of being "turned" into a vampire he is in conflict with who he wants to be and what he is. I guess because of my background (mental health professional for over 20 years) I could look beyond the superficial words in the books and "see" Bill's true nature: truly in love with Sookie, torn between his feelings and his loyalty to his superiors (which he could do nothing about).
In TV Bill, Alan Ball saw these deeper layers of Bill. To show the complex nature of being a vampire. To have parts of your human nature to exist in direct conflict with the cruel, hierarchical nature of vampire society.
Stephen brings Bill to life and show us all that life is very complex and not black and white. Life is full of grey areas and as a result the "demons" we all have within ourselves torment us or prevent us from truly living our "perfect" lives is a tragedy. Sorry to sound too depressing, but the raw emotions that the show brings out demonstrates the constant fight for that sense of peace we all seek.
