Ep 01: Strange Love

Across the country, vampires have come "out of the coffin" after the invention of mass-produced synthetic blood. In Louisiana, Sookie Stackhouse, a waitress with telepathic abilities, falls under the spell of a sexy, 173-year-old vampire named Bill Compton - whose thoughts she can't read. After saving Bill from the Rattrays, a pair of ruthless "vampire drainers," Sookie tests the limits of Bill's gratitude when the two are left alone in the dark. Meanwhile, Sookie's best friend Tara quits one job to work for Sam Merlotte at his bar and grill, and Sookie's roguish brother Jason finds himself in hot water when a "fangbanger," whom he's been intimate with meets a tragic end.

I thought the fangs were too close together also, it made them look weird.

it's only the first episode: second one's tonight!!
The series has to "develop a following: though
many views would be "built in",those who have
read the books" new viewers have to jump on the
train who didn't read the books like me~ I love the
series so far~can't wait to see more.

I love the books. Charlene Harris is a very talented author, which is what this show is based on. That alone makes it more exciting for me, and all the more difficult for the actors having to live up to what we as fans have come to expect.

It was only the first show, and not a bad start. As with anything, they needed to lay the groundwork. Anyone not willing to give this show a chance will miss out on an amazing story, and it will be your loss.

I do have to say those switch blade fangs are seriously cheesy, and to close together. HBO couldn't come up with a better alternative?? Those things are horrible.

I looked forward to this show for so long. I am a huge vampire fan and love movies and shows about them. I was so disgusted with this first show I didn't know what to do.

First, Anna Paquin, OMG get rid of her or fix her teeth. I'm not trying to be mean but I cannot STAND staring at that gap another second. It was unbelievably distracting and annoying and I almost shut off the show because of it. Seems stupid, but I swear it bothers me that much.

Second, enough of the x rated sex. I get that HBO has R material and I'm as much a fan of a good sex scene as anyone but JHC this was so out of place IMO. I thought this show was going to be scary, about SCARY vampires. Not about wimpy (too much white makeup) faced vampires who can't even defend themselves against a couple of in-bred hokies who drain his blood. I thought it would be SCARY not a mini-porno.

HBO I'm a huge fan. Please fix this show. I really want to watch it.

Like in all small towns you have the good and the bad. Not everyone is nasty and sleazy. If everyone was wonderful, what kind of story would that be? Sookie, Sam, Tara, Bill, Arlene and the others ..they all have their redeeming qualities that make them so 3 dimensional. Every one has some darkness with the light. Louisiana has nothing to be unhappy about.

Have you ever been to Louisiana? The south does have a lot of rednecks and white trash, certainly in the smaller towns. Being from Arkansas and Louisiana, I think it is a fair portrayal. Have you ever checked the teen pregnancy rates? All these "haters" need to stop with all the "PC" nonsense and just enjoy a good story. This is not an after school special or a documentary on southern life. It is a fictional world with a make believe story, and I for one am loving every minute. Just except and let your imagination take you to Bon Temps.

"When Sookie tossed the log chain around Rattray's neck... who tightened the chain and did not release it from his neck? "

Ummm...have you ever thrown a heavy chain around a tree or a length of pipe? It sticks do to the centrifugal force of the throw and the tendency to stay in motion...it will wrap itself around the object. I've never seen a heavy chain tossed around a guy's neck...but I suspect the effect would be similar. I do agree it was a bit over the top, as he would be able to remove it, providing he could breath.

I watched this episode a couple more times and you're right, the chain was being pulled tighter by some invisible force.

Since this show contains other supernatural beings I am guessing that some invisible supernatural being was assisting Sookie and tightening the chain around Rattray's neck.

But that was a good observation, I missed that until you mentioned it.

I wish I had an invisible assistant.

Regarding the chain around Rattrays neck? Because Rattray is addicted to vamp blood, he has the susceptibility to silver. Once it was on him, he was rendered too weak to remove it...anyway, that is my take on the reason he couldn't get it off him. Does anyone else have any theories?

I agree! It is so hard to judge a show by its pilot or first episode. I find that it takes several to get the feel of how a show is going to be, especially when you have a large ensemble cast and you get to know everyone and how they relate in the early episodes.

I absolutely loved it. I've been in love with vampire movies and anything related since I was a little girl, 33 now. Your right, it's about time they made something ! They have every other kind of show out there and reality TV is overruning everything ! Love it HBO ! Hey, question:

Does anyone know the title and artist of the last song that played and ran the show threw the credits? cant find it on Itunes and I love it ! thanks for any help.

I need some clarification.

When Sookie tossed the log chain around Rattray's neck... who tightened the chain and did not release it from his neck?

Sookie or Bill?

I've tried to rewatch as many repeats as possible...
more, more, more...can't wait until Sunday!
