If you've read the books and would like to discuss [future] plot lines, please do it here so as not to spoil it for those who are new to the series - thanks!

Well, crap. I'm back. I watched. I'm bored. I can't believe, given that there was not a single second of material from the books in this episode, that ALL of my predictions were right. Right down to S-A jumping Eric because Bill found out about her selling V, Eggs getting shot by Jason, and the "big cliffhanger" scene going pretty much exactly like I mapped it out. How sad is it that it's this predictable?!?!? SAD, I say!!!! Of course, who could have predicted (or wanted!) a marriage proposal from St Bill the Non-Vamp? (WTF?? Are we supposed to believe that Sookie is going to say yes to a dead man who she's only known for a month???) But instead of being an interesting plot twist (ugh ugh ugh), it was boring and gag-producing. And MA's death -- ew! Gorey! But boring. And not particularly compelling. Nor was any of the aftermath of that. ("Oh, no problem, we'll just sew the severed finger back on, no big deal. Then everything can just go back to normal. Tara will help Sookie clean the mess up, no biggie." Bleh.....) There were a couple of (very minor) things that I liked about the episode, and I'll come back and post those and a few more thoughts (mostly questioning the sanity of straying from actually interesting plot themes from the books....) after I get a chance to read the posts I've missed. But I just had to jump on and post something after being bored to tears watching that episode....I just know the faithful here have got to be as annoyed as I am with this, by far the worst episode of the series. Sigh. -- Edited by hotvampluv at 09/15/2009 6:31 AM PDT

everyone on this board seems to act like these characters are real. Is that for real or just a way of talking about the characters?

If so, what would have > compelled you to watch the show? After S2, would you > have continued to watch it? > When I saw the promos for the show and saw Stephen Moyer (an actor who I have liked for years) I thought, okay, I can't stand violence but maybe I'll give it a try. Before the show started I found out it was based on books, so I bought the first one. And loved it, after each one I ran out and bought the next one. I fell in love with the characters. I thought, well, if it's based on these books maybe I can stand the violence. So, no, if there weren't books, I would have probably tuned in to the first episode, seen the brutal beating of Sookie and never watched again. What had made it palatable for me to watch is knowing when violence might be coming so I can prepare myself and my love of the characters. I don't watch Fringe for that very reason. I watched half of the first episode it was too gross for me and I changed the channel and never tuned back in. I don't like TB Bill at all. I do like him in the books. And it bugs me cause it makes me uncomfortable watching Stephen Moyer, an actor I've always enjoyed. I'm fairly confident I wouldn't like Bill whether I had read the books or not. So the fact that the characters have been changed, makes me not so enthusiastic about returning next season. -- Edited by hestia7 at 09/15/2009 7:26 AM PDT

Steve Newlin will stake Sooklie in Club Dead when she stops him from staking Russell or a vamp in his command, IMO Jess with no supervision will be out of control for the one night until she sees Hoyts roses. It would be grat if Mott is black or if Laffy is turned. We need a badass black vamp -- Edited by ohericohericoh at 09/15/2009 6:09 AM PDT

I don't think it is harsh at all. Lorena will have to die and Sookie is just the girl to do it. Eric won't change his ways until he gets cursed by a witch. Sam at this point doesn't stand a chance (having a romance with sookie) unless you count him as a true friend to Sookie. The FOTS does need a way back into the story but I don't think it will be Jessica. I do think she is going to get into a lot of trouble though but not before she can tell Sookie that Bill never came home.

You should have read the furious blogs after that episode aired. Some thought Maryanne had laid the egg...

I loved the finale and Alan Ball really played us good. So many people were in a state of hysteria over the big egg. When Maryann told Sookie it was just an ostrich egg I howled with laughter. So many bloggers were so irate over the egg and formulated all types of far fetched conclusions. I thought they were going to blow a gasket. I give you big UPS Alan Ball you totally manipulated their (my) feelings. Excellent, Bravo!!! You are a master story teller. hey are there any other guys on these threads? working and bored stumbled on this while looking for the schedule for next season. everyone is too worried about eric and bill next season. alan ball is yanking all your chains. his interview was tongue in cheek. he wants you riled up. been a big fan of his for years. he has a way of twisting everything he says.dont trust what he says only trust the way he says it if you can actually hear his interview, i prefer the sex and violence maryann brought and the evil dead jason and andy but can handle eric becuse he is a bad ass. not much thought on bill he does not intrest me. liked godric and the campy storyline. have not and wont read the books so ladies, fill me in because i hate surprises. guess you are all in bed lucky you.solitaire time -- Edited by philm2010 at 09/15/2009 12:00 AM PDT

Let?s > say, for argument sake, the books never existed and > TB is a new HBO show developed by AB. Would you have > watched the show? (Assuming you saw it advertised or > promoted somewhere). I was actually worried about the tv show until I heard Alan Ball was involved. I love his work and I was excited to see what he would do with the source material. Sure, I have some complaints about the direction they're going in from time to time but overall I like what he and the writers have done. >If so, what would have > compelled you to watch the show? After S2, would you > have continued to watch it? I would have continued to watch because the writing in season 1 was excellent. I learned early on in season 1 to seperate the books from the show. Like I said, that doesn't mean I don't disagree with changes or wish certain things made it to screen or whatever but the books and the show aren't the same. Mostly I'm okay with that. > The reason I ask is that I have a few friends I > I introduced TB to. I first told my BFF and then a > few others after her. I always recommend reading the books to fans of the show because the books are a fun and easy read. I also think they compliment the show quite well. It's fun to speculate about what might show up on the show based on what I've read the in the books.

Rose interesting that we can see the same thing and read the same thing and interpret it in two different ways. Luckily this is America and we are both allowed our opinions no matter how much infighting exists. I would fight for your right to say what you want to and hope you would do the same for me. That does not mean we will never have heated disagreements.Let's hope season three that AB makes us both happy.

For me the show is better than the books.
