lmoa.... I agree, I found him creepy too. I thought he was very nice to Sookie, but the whole hotshot lifestyle is strange. I picture people walking around with barefeet that are dirty....yyuucckk.

Ok ..if Hoyt was not a first born...like Sam's brother and sister....maybe, he does come from a shifter gene pool..but is not a shifter because either 1.) both of his parents weren't full-blood or he was not a first born...

....I would've thought, though, that Bill would have already had some type of " I know what you are " reaction to Hoyt...considering that he knew what San was

(I still think Hoyt is just a sweet, geeky human)

It could be her drippy leg but I'm not inclined to believe that the Queen is draining someone. In the comic con trailer she asks Bill to join her and I don't think she'd ask him to join in on Hadley.

Yup..DrRitch..AB has been creative about his Dionysis..but I think he started with the maenad concept and worked around that....

DrRitch We use the greek and roman gods interchangeably these days, but they have differences, in part because you have all the local influences (Dionysus greek, Bacchus roman) in what was mainly an oral tradition to wade through. Roman and Greek cultural values and mores, were very different and gods changed even from region to region inside each country, as you mentioned. Plus this is not a PBS show on greek mythology, hey they spelled Meanad right. Who am I to complain? The one thing that makes me a tad cranky is that the Greeks had no concept of Satan, just the underworld. Admittedly tartarus sounds sucky!

I concur. Bill is shocked to see the Queen down on a girl's "nether regions" as another poster said and I'm sure that's a shock to walk in on no matter who you are! ; ) Lindsey Haun said that she's in the last two episodes of the season and technically three when you count her Season 3 and/or count her dripping leg which debuted on the last one. Wonder which one she was referring to?! I think she did state season 3, right?

I'm reposting this because it seemed to be buried but, I really want to know how this selling V deal ties in w/ the show. AB has brought it up in a few episodes this season now and then dropped the topic completely. Now that the topic has popped up again in this last episode I'm really curious. Now that Bill's privy to Eric and Laf working a deal selling V, what's going to happen. Another threader (buellblaster, i think) thought that Eric and the Queen were in cahoots on the selling V and this is where the spoiler mention of the Queen telling Eric to keep a wrap on Bill's inquisitiveness ties in. Thoughts?!

Plus the friend was gay....lol.... hoyt is def not gay.

But AB has def changed the roles of book characters. ie. Tara and Laffy. SO maybe he is expanding Hoyt's role too.

I'd buy that train of thought. With this show anything is possible and it is a funny way to word that so I agree with your reasoning. Not 100% that's gonna happen but, in the books (POSSIBLE BOOK SPOILER) Jason did have a shifter friend albeit it wasn't Hoyt.

I'm pretty sure that the girl is Hadley and is in fact Lindsey Haun. I think the make up artist just went a little too heavy on the make up. But we know for a fact that Lindsey Haunis debuting the last two episodes of this season and this is the preview pic for the 2nd to last show so I'm betting that the producers are not bringing in another lesbian love interest for the queen to nibble on. Yep, I'm 99.9% that that is a heavy makeup laden Hadley.

Reinvention Myth?

Alan may have a Ball with this concept:

They have been a little loosie-goosie with Dionysian god so far this season. There are actually two major identities associated with this god.

The first originates from Thrace, and is associated with a very aggressive god that sometimes takes the form of a bull. However, Bacchus is not associated with this version (the Bakchoi was the term associated).

The second version is Phrygian in nature, and is associated with Bacchus. This is a kinder, child-like god of vegetation, resurrection following a Orphic tradition that folks like Joseph Campbell have argued pretty convincingly led to the Christ concept later in Rome.

These are two pretty disparate traditions here, and they seem to be mixed up with what we've heard about Dionysus so far this season in the show. They do have some important things in common, such as the rituals, the wine, the sacrifices. They both, like all Greek gods, are vengeful. But the Bacchus tradition in particular is not associated with a bull or the ability of a maenad to absorb the power of a sacrificed animal (which is why I'm assuming she wants Sam in particular).

In the Phrygian tradition, Dionysus is also a shapeshifter. Though mostly a lion, he oftentimes turns into a panther (reading the posts about Jason made me wonder about any association here).

What's interesting is Apollo calmed Dionysus down (words to that affect), and wouldn't it be interesting if MaryAnn summons a god that is no longer quite the same? It would be interesting if she summons him, and he takes her out.

I don't want to ramble on and on - I'm just suggesting Dionysus is a complex character and AB could have a very interesting time with it.

Okay, enough rambling. Just some thoughts. Notes taken from Oxford Classical Dictionary and Plato's Phaedo.
