Word(s)-of-the-Day-Thread

One of the parts of the Sookie books that I like is how Sookie always uses a word from her Word-of-the-Day calendar. I thought it would be fun if we could learn some new words that we could apply to our posts. So here is the callenge ...stop by, leave a word with the definition and use the word in a sentence either in the post you leave here or out in your other post.

euphonious \yoo-FOH-nee-uhs\, adjective:

Pleasing or sweet in sound; smooth-sounding.

To hear Bill speak is very euphonious.

Cattywumpas sounds a lot like one of my favorite words in the book "Lolita"...Akimbo.

Akimbo-In or into a position in which the hands are on the hips and the elbows are bowed outward: children standing akimbo by the fence.

Sookie stood arms akimbo awaiting the first kiss of Bill the vampire.

In Steve Martin's Pure Drivel he has a story called "Lolita at 40" . It is hilarious and the word akimbo is used generously.

Oooh, I like this thread. I have some fun southern colloqialisms. Would that count in the word of the day?

Haint: a southern apparition. [said in my best southern accent] "I look like a haint today. Haint got no arms, haint got no head, haint got no legs."

Cattywompus: to be askew. "Grandma Stackhouse was laid out on the kitchen floor all cattywompus."

Gum: to muck up. "I can't get no chores done on Sunday 'cuz it just gums up my board postin' and True Blood watchin' time."

Perfidy def. deliberate breach of faith

When Sam backed Sookie up against the car he painted Bill as a man capable of plotting perfidy against Sookie.

In my crossword today. Pernicious- highly injurious or destructive- Deadly- wicked.
Hanging out with the nest of vampires had a pernicious effect on her sense of morality.

that's funny....maybe the word is an hbo word of the day. :D

....bill was made a vampire in 1870 according to the book so even tho he is immortalized at 30 he technically is far past an octogenerian, right?....i can't say math was ever my strong point but i think this is true.

uppity -as in a young person who thinks Bill is older than an octogenarian.

I also believe Tara used that word in one of the episodes.
