AB: Eric and Sookie "are fated"

Well well well.

Seems the man has finally decided to put us out of our misery.

New interview from TV guide: http://www.tvguide.com/News/True-Blood-Tidbits-1010929.aspx

Sookie and Eric: Sookie's been seeing visions of her and Eric getting ? ahem ? friendly. Will their romance actually progress, not just in her head? "I can definitely tell you [we'll see that] in the show. I don't know if it will necessarily be in Season 3. Of course they're going to come together, it's fated. It's not something that's going to happen right off the bat."

Interesting choice of words - "fated".

I thought he may treat E/S as a fling (which is worse to me than leaving it out altogether) but that doesn't sound like a fling. It sounds like he may actually have half a clue about this story after all.

I can't recall him ever saying anything so direct on this subject. Usually he is "snakier than a snake in the grass" when asked about E/S.

Hopefully we will see some real progress in this direction as season 3 plays out.

Well since none of that has happened on the show yet, you never can tell where AB will take it...

Hi Troll

Abused, violated, raped and demeaned? by Eric you say?

Honey you appear to have wandered into the wrong character thread.

Here is the one you were looking for.

http://boards.hbo.com/topic/True-Blood-Hbo/Compton-Played-Stephen/1900008115

And perhaps you might want to read the books to get your head around who does the raping and manipulating and abusing in this story.

This is true. I know one Billsbabe who stopped reading the books for this reason. I feel kind of sad for them.

In fairness, the above is actually a spoiler and hasn't happened on the show. It's from Book 3. Strictly from the show, though, I think Eric's personality -- his directness and assertiveness, is much more appealing than Bill's whiney, depressive and secretive mannerism.

You are quite right about one thing. Bill will never compare to Eric.

Eric will not need to get out of "Bills spotlight". Bill manages to fuck that up all on his own.

Bill is the one who emotionally abuses Sookie, violates Sookie repeatedly when she asks him to be gentle with her, actually rapes Sookie after nearly draining her first, and then demeans her by flaunting women in front of her and her friends and co-workers.

Get a clue! I know you are just trying to start some shit, but seriously, Bill?

Claverne:
I'm putting you on "fair warning".
Better watch what you say around here concerning
Eric Northman.

Have you read the books? or are you speaking from
only watching the show???

The problem with the "perception of both Eric & Bill,
comes from whether or not one's read the books or
not or has only watched the show."

Charlaine Harris wrote Eric to be the "Good Guy" &
William Thomas Compton to "Be bad"

Alan Ball is writing the show TrueBlood as he sees it:
And not as Charlaine Harris wrote the books.
So that means that that Bill Compton is the "Good Guy
and Eric Northman is Bad"

Now fans of the show who have read the books know
that Eric Northman is "the Good GUY" and that Bill
has a secret that will finish his romance with Sookie.

When the show began I'd never heard of Ms.Harris or
Sookie Stackhouse Series. I read the books after the
first season ended. I'm presently rereading Book 5.

Also I love both Eric Northman & Bill Compton and
can't decide as to which Vampire I would want more.
And I'm also not possessed by Satan.

Anyone who can compare Eric to Bill and love Eric is possessed by Satan.

Eric should die a horrible death and get out of Bills spotlight for whenever evil is winning all good people lose.

Just goes to show how stuupid and tragic women are that they love to be abused, violated, raped and demeaned in order to win some guy.

Get some worthiness ladies.

You two really have stated eloquently how I, and I'm sure many others, are thinking.

I would love if you were able to post links to interviews Ball has been doing. I try and follow up, but it's so difficult sometimes with as busy as I am.

Five stars. So true. Even alot of Bill fans who haven't read the books are complaining about how emasculated he became in S2. There is nothing attractive about that.
Say what you like about Book Bill (and believe me I say alot on this subject) but he knew what he was, and he embraced it in a way that made him much more interesting than this simpering, pussy whipped Bill we are being presented with on True Blood.

That scene in the finale when Sookie told him to go clean up the yard and he trotted off without a word did it for me. I can hardly bear to watch them any more. But I think this is what we're meant to be feeling ;)

I think you really nailed what has bugged me so much about True Blood's handling of this so far, I haven't been able to articulate it like that.

E/S is core to this story. Their relationship has been building since book 1. Now at book 9, it continues to evolve and change and move forward. It is heading somewhere and the journey has been wonderful to read. Eric and Sookie are a slow burn and this has to be handled properly in both mediums to keep people interested. Charlaine Harris is doing it perfectly - but that's not surprising since the soul of these characters is hers. She has created them and she's been writing them for a long time.

Ball keeps giving and then taking away in an attempt to tease - all he is achieving is to piss off and frustrate the part of his audience that are invested in this pairing, and that doesn't keep them where you want them.

I think alot of us were pretty frustrated after Ep 8 & 9 where we FINALLY felt we were starting to see some progress with Eric's character, and with his interaction with Sookie. We could finally really see that she didn't hate him, that he was capable of more than stalking around being broody. We saw depth, emotion, and connection.

Then we get not a SINGLE scene with the two of them interacting for the rest of the season - and Eric talking about eating children and playing Yahtzee.

It was infuriating.

But I do think they've got the message, listening to interviews Ball has done in particular since the finale.

Welcome back. The CA trip sounded fun. (next time, I hope to join the party)

Over here, it's freezing.... SF Bay area snow is falling....

Anyway, it seems a long way off til the episodes air, so we can't too down with poor expectations. [that's the bad aspect of reading too many spoilers.) Personally, I can care less if E/S hook up in S3, just show us a good story.... with the Vikinig in the midst of the major story arc, I'll be satisfied.

Afterall, AB can't please all the fans.
