I totally agree with GoSookie.
I have read the first 3 books so far and waiting for the fourth to come into the Library but I completely agree that in the books Eric is so the guy for her. I damn near had to take a cold shower during that scene in the 3rd book when Sookie is recovering in the Kings house. WOW I just wanted Eric to take her right there and make her forget all about Bill...Damn Bubba.
That being said Bill on the show is wonderful beyond all expectations I could have had. I too like that he seems more open but still has that dark sultry side to him. Stephen makes Bill come to life. Eric is still good looking but I did expect someone a bit larger. The guy they have playing him is really from that part of the world and his father is a great actor so I am hoping that he got those genes. Either way it isn't a deal breaker for me. I can just read the next book and get my Eric thrills that way.

Now wait a minute,,,I know I am only through Book 4 but where is it proven that Bill was unfaithful? I know he didn't deny it but I am just not sure. Also we still don't know if vampires have to obey their makers. Last but not least vampire morality seems to be a bit skewed especially when it comes to humans in CH's books. After all before they came out the coffin weren't humans just prey?

Bill is unfaithful to Sookie, how is THAT being misunderstood? Having "been there" IRL maaaaaaaany years ago there is no "misunderstanding" just scumminess.

SPOILER ALERT !!
I've read all the books so here are my thoughts...
SSSSssssooooo **ERIC** in the BOOKS !! He is absolutely the guy for Sook. Never really cared for the Quinn character. I want Sookie and Eric together. I know Sam is a good guy and he follows Sookie like a puppy but there is just something about Eric.
Then I watched the series. I am loving the portrayal of Bill. Much beter then in the books with the direction they sent his character going in. I love the actor they choose and he's really making it easy to forget all about Eric ~lol~ I think he's doing a fabulous job, not just the looks but I like his method.
When I caught my first glimpse of Eric, I turned to my husband and said, "That's not Eric they must have made a mistake !!"
I don't see it AT ALL ! Where is the hulking, fill up a doorway, Viking GOD that is the Vampire Eric. He commands attention and has a presence you can't ignore in the books. No offense to the actor but he is not large enough in scale alone. I am really hoping he will have some serious, serious sparks with Anna to pull this off. I just don't see it or feel it though. I am seriously disappointed...
I also can't wait for book 9 ;O)
I loved the end of book 8 and am hoping Eric or I suppose even Bill make their way into Sookies heart for good. Maybe Eric will get amnesia again ;O) (One can only hope...)
I know Sook could have a "normal" life with Sam but it's been too long now and I don't see the connection, I hope Charlaine doesn't take the story that way.
I better run...

I like Eric too, I've mentioned it a couple of times, in the books and in the HBO series. Yes Bill was unfaithful as mentioned in this thread and cause I don't want to give away any spoilers...I will only say there were mitigating circumstances to what happened to Bill and why he did what he did. So if the series plays this out (as it is in the books) we can all decide our position about Bill. Mine is Bill is still my favorite male lead (for Sookie) in both books and the series.

I'm an Eric fan for the books and an Bill fan for the TV series. You know, I think that it is really a compelling story if Bill is more than the strong and silent stereotype. He's actually very underdeveloped in the books and this is the chance for Mr. Ball to turn the series into a Bill and Sookie thing.

I like Bill a lot better on the show than in the books. In the books definitely Eric. I will be canceling my HBO subscription after episode 8, so don't know if I would eventually switch to prefer Bill on the show.

From one of the spoiler sites it says that Bill will kill the vampire and have to pay retribution. I am completely upset since Eric is the one who saves Sookie by killing Longshadow. Alan Ball is just trying to make Bill the big hero and in the process changing Eric's part. Since the anticipation of seeing the Eric from the books was the only thing keeping me watching this show I have no desire to watch it after that. It would be different if the writing, directing and acting were better.
Book 9 of the Southern Vampire Mysteries should be coming out next year so I do have that to look forward too.

I'm an Eric girl, I'm a huge fan of Alexander's to begin with and Eric is just my favorite, he's got the attitude, he's got the look, he's got those shoulders Yeah, I'm a total Eric fan.

I had been hoping they would come to terms with the problems they've had, until Eric lost his memory. It definitely tipped things in his favor for me. Then he went back to being himself, and I sort of went back to pining for Bill. But when he saved her from the blood bond with Andre, I was coming around to the idea of sookie and eric. When he remembers everything, I found my heart racing.
but ultimately, I still hold out hope for Bill and Sookie, I want to see them together again. But maybe not until Sookie and Eric have another romp in the hay
Maybe it's an indication of my personal weaknesses that I want so much for Sookie to forgive Bill and love him again.
Stephen Moyer is playing Bills part very, very well. I'm a little too into him. hehe.
