Godric played by Allan Hyde

I see lots of threads about Godric already.

Lets just make it a thread about Godric himself.

2000 year old vampire who claims to be older than Jesus.
Eric's maker. Cute, short and young looking.
He seems to have found himself and evolved as a person.
He wants vamps and humans to coexist.

I hope they keep around for a while.

I liked the actor, I may try to look more of his things up.

Now one thing has confused both myself and my gf and this may be a dumb statment and maybe it's just us, but when they first showed Godric talking with Eric befoe he turned him, between the lighting, make up, and editing of the scean Godric looked to be hispanic or something (Not really sure how to say it correctly or p.c. so my apologies if it sounds or reads wrong). He looked like he was central or south american. Very dark hair, seemed to have a tan complection, the tattoo's seemed IMO tribal of some sort and to my basic understanding tat's more over tribal tat's were not exactly done for style.

Fast forward x hundred years and now he looks like the pasty kid who lives down the block. Was it two different actors or did the lighting of that scean just make him look that way.

Fanghooker: Speculation/comment

You picked up upon one element of the Godric story
that not many of the viewers did: Godric's depression.
Godric was tired of living~ITB, Godric had turned him
self into FOTS because he'd had enough of killings
and who he had prayed upon; Young children.
That aspect of his character wasn't told in the TrueBlod storyline on HBO.

Why was it ommited? Maybe the extended DVD will tell
us,maybe not???

He'd had seen enough in the 2000 years he lived.
Maybe he couldn't see who he'd leave his group to:
Stan was a hot head, with no real direction.
Eric had his own group, which was up and coming.

Godric, when he saw Gabe hurting Sookie he acted:
He took hold of Gabe's neck and Gabe released her!
Godric at this time in his life didn't like what Gabe was
doing~Hurting a women. He was once a Human,he
had a mother once, so gabe's life was ended.

I know I will get jumped on for this, but Godric just seemed depressed to me. If he is so weary and life is so boring for him, then it was time for him to end it all. He was supposed to be so powerful but he didn't seem to make any effort to lead even his own group in the direction of change. It was a nice little story, but people don't like to be around downer people all the time. I won't miss his sad, sack character at all. The one interesting thing he did beside have an interesting death was break Gabe's neck.

Hello!

Sometimes, I feel compelled to keep this thread going, as well as that other thread "BRING GODRIC BACK!!" with the hopes that in my own small way I could help in making sure that a lot of people continue to remember Allan Hyde and his performance as Godric.

I guess it's just wishful thinking that the more people talk about him, and the longer they keep talking about him would make it so that the powers that be in HBO would offer him more roles or something, even if it's not in TB (that is, I'm hoping that they visit this board)...I certainly would never underestimate the power of word of mouth...:)

Couldn't agree with you more. I would also like to see more foreign movies of him. There's a different quality when he talks in his native tongue.

I hope his performance as Godric will get Allan Hyde more exposure here and land him more roles on our side of the Atlantic!

I'd really like to see more of him...:)

But of course it is fair to compare.

The lines of dialogue are the same. The show's writers did that for a reason: so that different situations could be compared. In this case, they illustrated that all makers have the power of command over the vampires they have made.

So, we are free to compare how different makers behave toward the vampires they have made.

I appreciate Bill as a wonderful character, and think the Bill-Sookie relationship is quite hot, but I'm not such a fan that I can't step back and see that he's been a terrible maker. Like Victor Frankenstein, he abandoned his creation. True, Bill never wanted to be a maker in the first place, but the ultimate loser is Jessica. It isn't her fault that Bill was being punished. And while he showed some patience with her in certain cases, for the most part he's just wanted to rid himself of any obligation toward her so he can focus on Sookie.

Cheers.

Your post made me think of a way to bring Godric back. Godric asked about God and forgiveness for his sins before dying. Maybe Godric went to heaven where God explained to him that he is to be a moral teacher for other vampires to follow. God then sends him back to earth. Godric returns with a new excitement and sense of mission. Most vampires are VERY resistant to Godric's message. But, some begin to follow him. It sets up another split among vampires just as there is a current split among those who wanted to reveal their existence to humans and those who didn't.

This idea seems very believable to me. With all the supernatural talk, with Daphne saying Maryann is God then saying Maryann is the horned devil, and with Maryann saying that she's going to make a sacrifice to an as yet unseen "god," Godric meeting God in heaven seems to fit right in.

I didn't think that you were comparing Jesus and the
character of Godric. I knew what you meant.

I beleive that what moved many posters was his
acting~You must admit Allan Hyde is some actor!
Only 19 years old~and definately more emotionally
advanced, and he has such a good screen presence.

It means that the reaction wasn't due to the actor checking Ryan Kwanten out, but a character thing. Godric the character might well have been checking Jason out.

Suicide is a selfish act. Yes, Godric meeting the sun was sad, but after last week's episode it occurred to me how prematurely he ended his existence. On the show, Bill turns to Queen Sophie-Anne for help, but she's only 500 years old (she's 1,000 in the books). How much more assistance could a 2,000+ year old vampire have given?

Godric let the FotS take him without thinking about the consequences. How did he think vampires like Stan would react? Who did he think would take his place, since he didn't discuss it with his lieutenants beforehand? It would have been a mess.

The Great Revelation would have been a marvelous opportunity for an ancient vampire suffering an existential crisis to reinvent himself and find a new reason for being. But unlike Jesus, Godric didn't have disciples. He didn't stop to pass his message along to anyone.

For the record: No one is or will ever be greater than Jesus. As for Godric, I don't think it was ever an intention to portray his character as the likeness of a deity. He was just an ancient vampire who grew tired and conflicted with his existence. "I don't think like vampire anymore," he said. He then tried to make a difference by proving that vampire and human may coexist, which is why he gave himself up to the Fellowship. He most likely did not intend to meet the sun then. That decision of his would not come into fruition until Luke blew himself up and Flanagan labeled it a National Vampire Disaster (which I think is quite preposterous). However, his eccentric vampire views and compassion coupled with irresistible charisma is what ultimately won the heart of viewers like you and me.
