Okay, this is my first post to the forum and I don't know how popular it will be.
So far, Season 2 has been a disappointment. It seems like all the originality and realness of the first season has disappeared in S2 so far.
First Season was spellbinding because there was a gritty realness to the characters and the story lines. These were real people with real problems. Of course, the supernatural storyline is what made the series pop! The way the story lines were written, it seemed plausible that vampires could exist. And it was cutting edge that "vampire acceptance issues" were a perfect metaphor for racism, homophobia, etc.
Also, the characters were everyday people that one could identify with. The script writers created story lines featuring secrets and alienation (Sookie and Sam), child abuse and alcholism (Tara). Even Bill's issues were dealt with in an honest, realistic, heart-touching way that was not over the top!
Season 2 is almost a different show altogether and, IMO, this has been a let-down. This season, the script writers have created storylines that are almost like Buffy The Vampire Slayer meets Bewitched meets Sex In The City!
What happened to the reality factor that was so wonderfully combined with the supernatural aspect??
With Season 2 gone are the complex, sensitive story lines that has given way to spooky, scary fluff-stuff. Goofy scare tactics!
So far, none of the story lines (with the possible exception of Sam) seem to be more adult or mature-themed. We have:
1.Sookie no longer working for a living, but she does do a lot of complaining & whining to Bill.
2.Bill and Eric have been turned into West Hollywood pretty boy types with all those cute clothes and haircuts.
3.Tara seems to have had an overnight personality change and gone is her inner-anger (I guess it's cuz she's met her hunky friend and isn't even questioning why she's living in an estate now.).
4.A seeming witch you gets Merlott's Bar dancing all cool-like to a new B-52's song. Wowee!
I could go on, but I'll just conclude with my concern that the show went from cutting edge to predictable, trying to hard to be fabulous, having lost it's reality principle.
I love, LOVE this show and say nothing to be cruel and it's just my opinion. However, I had to express that I'm saddened, disappointed and...kind of losing interest in the show.

I think so far the episodes are great, but I totally agree with someone's earlier comment: AP is the weak link on the show. Last season she was kind of cute, this year, she's over made up and she's either yelling, screaming of running away from Bill. Total snoozfest.
Also, don't you think in Ep 3 she would be even the littlest bit afraid of Eric?
The show works better when it focuses on the so-called secondary characters, rather then Sookie and Bill, I think.

Also you need to understand that the books are told from a First Person perspective, and like AB said, if he were to do that in True Blood AP would spend 18 hours a day on set to tell the Story and no one else would have time to talk, and anything would have to be either seen or told to Sookie in order for the point to be made, and that is just not what TV and/or the Movies are about. So to see Sookie constantly on set would be a downer to most I am thinking. Yes AB has deviated from the books, most all things made for TV and/or the Movies do deviate some if not totally from the books I like AB creation and the first 3 episodes have been set up for the Dallas Trip anyway.

I think you all are crazy. I think every episode has been awesome. I love not knowing what is gonna happen next. The book characters are so flat and boring , the show has so much life to it.
I am so glad that hes only following 50% of the books. Who wants to see sookie drift from man to man like a supernatural world groupie. And as far a sookie not working in the book shes doesnt work that much either shes always been more detective than a worker.
I think if you seperate the book from the show you will be a lot happier with what you are watching. The only thing I agree with is the sex is kinda boring we need more like the graveyard sex or at least give them a scene where Bill spanks sookies ass and she calls him daddy , lol
Lastly about the Tara comment. we are getting more from this character than we ever got of her in the book. in the book she was a silly lil weak ass white girl with no voice for herself. Chew on that for awhile.

Bingo!!! The distraction relaxes my brain and I'm able to work through everything much easier.

I honestly don't think that everyoe views it for this reason. I know a lot of time when I 'watch' tv, I'm not focusing or concentrating on it. my mind is relaxing and I'm working through other problems subconsciously.

Either crap tv or scanning old family pics onto Faebook. Family Photo Thereapy. We just lost my grandmother two, 3, if you count the month she wa in a coma) months ago. Sometimes my thoughts keep me awake and I need a distraction.
