Oh! Have any of you seen The Life of David Gale? It has Kevin Spacey and Kate Winslet in it. A man is on death row for a murder that he may or may not have committed. Kevin Spacey is the man on death row. Kate Winslet is a reporter for the local paper that gets to do the last (and only) interview Spacey does before his execution date. It is on my list of top 5 favorite movies.

Saw X-men Origins recently and while it was entertaining I didn't like it as much as the other X-men movies cause Wolverine is the main Character and I'm just not that into him, One of my favorite characters Gambit from the comics makes a brief appreance and Ryan Reynolds is in it and I love him! However he plays a minor role and is underutilized. Overall worth watching but I'm glad I saved my money and watched it on cable.

Wow, read the book and didn't even know that a movie was made. Going to have to look for it, both hubby and I are fans of James Lee Burke.

Austrailia is good movie. I watched "28 Weeks Later." It was good. I thought that it was going to be a zombie type of a movie but it was much more about the relationships of the survivors. I read "Push", the book that the movie "Precious" is based on and that is a hard read because it is so sad.

I saw 2012 over the weekend. Really good movie. Lots of great action/special effects. While many scenes were like "Yeah right, like THAT could happen", it is definately worth seeing on the big screen.

"In the Electric Mist" starring Tommy Lee Jones, Peter Sarsgaard & John Goodman is a pretty good murder mystery set in the bayous of Louisiana. "King of California" starring Michael Douglas and Evan Rachel Wood. He plays her father, a whackjob who's convinced there's Spanish treasure buried under Costco. Both are on Netflix Instant Play right now. True Blood Screencaps

Alizarine: Used to have a friend like that. Hubby's got a short attention span~Though he's sat through "Saving Private Ryan,Goodfellea's,Titanic, The Grifters,PacificHeights"but he's not into action movies~also now that we have "every movie channel in the world we see lot's of stuff at home" If I have to I will go to the movies myself~That's what I'm intending to do when I see the remake of "StrawDogs",Wolfman,NewMoon!!!

> Alazarine: > I saw both of the commercials for the films and said > "i have to see these films"!!! Marlene, for movies, I have a movie and lunch friend and a spouse. Friend and I see nature films, animated films and chic flicks. Hubs is a bit of an entertainment snob. Big screen films need big screen features, like explosions and chase scenes LOL. I wait for the DVDs much of the time, I don't mind.

Marlene posted: Alaizarine: Two movies I'm going to suggest: 1.Precious~Put out by Oprah Winfrey,it's the true story of a 16 year old who was abused by both her Mother and raped by her father. It's a "must see story, one of the ladies in the film is the comic Monique, along with Mariha Carey, with out makeup playing a social worker. In theaters: Today. 2. The Blind Side: True Story of a white family who takes in a homeless black teenager who, is now playing for the NFL team, the Baltimore Ravens!!! film stars Sandra Bullock, Tim McGraw, and Quinton Aaron. In theaters: December 20th. Thanks Marlene, have considered both of these. Precious because of what I have seen and read on IMDB and The Blind Side because Sandra is one of my favorite actresses and I am a sucker for a heartwarming story. I may however wait for the DVDs to come out.

Yes, the whiteman imperative: everybody be like me! I guess it is better than just slaughtering the indigenous population, but not much.

ericrocks posted: I don't know much about Aboriginal culture, but I plan on getting a book on Australian culture and history on my next trip to the library. That to me is a sign of a great movie, when I am so interested that I really want to learn more about the subject matter. Throw in the WWII history, and I am sold. I did not know the movie was nominated and won several awards. I am happy to hear that. May be I was incorrect in sayng the critics didn't like it, but I don't believe this film did that well in the theaters. Probably because it is 3-1/2 hours long. I loved it. Yes, maybe the length was a factor. It sure doesn't seem too long when you are watching it though. I studied Aboriginal culture in an anthropology class, even though the professor was a pompous ass, the subject matter was amazing. So I took another semester and this time my prof was from Yale and he rocked. They have some ideas which can be incredible. Most outstanding was "dream time", where they can see the future! They see time as a mountain range, the future mountains are just further in the distance. And their relationship to the natural world is something to respect and emulated, sigh, if only. I would bet Aaine would tell us things have changed, but my hope is that it stays alive somewhere. Cool about going to the library, now I think I might too. I loved that year in school .
