Mythical/Supernatural Creatures(Come here to find out what it is)

I looked and there isn't a thread that relates to this. I know a lot of questions have come up about different creatures and people wanting to know what they are. Things like Pan, maenads, etc. Well, here is a place to post what you know and find out about some creature you want to know about. All creatures from mythology, supernatural, etc are welcome :)

A Brahma bull wouldn't be that hard to find in that part of Louisiana.

My personal theory is that, if he's done it once from a "model," he can do it again without the model.

He might easily have experimented with changing into a bull. (Nice masculine image there!) But at one point, he said "Flying is hard," so he might not have experimented with changing to an owl or a fly before, and therefore needed the model.

I can also imagine that it would be harder to conjure up a model in his mind if he's under stress, like running from Maryann. Under those circumstances, he might need a live model.

AB has said in an interview that Maryann is absolutely dead, not to return.

Andromache, in the books, all Sam has to do is look at a picture of the animal and he can shift. Theories abound as to how he took on the shape of the bull. The most prominent seems to be that he used MaryAnn's mask. Poetic justice at work.

I too am hoping Tara was not referring to MaryAnn's X-( return, hopefully, sadly her premonition related to Egg's death/realizations.

I agree that their combined powers did resemble a superhero ensemble.

Forgive me if I raise a point that has already been covered, but I am wondering about the rules of shape shifting. In the final episode of season 2, how does Sam take on the shape of a white bull? In a previous episode, Sam explained that he had to be in close proximity to the shape he took on, like the fly in his jail cell. It seems unlikely that such an animal would be a local farm animal.

Also, I'm hoping that MA does not the qualities of a Phoenix and will rise again. Tara did say she had a feeling that it wasn't over when she viewed MA's body.

The way Bill, Sookie and Sam combined their supernatural powers to kill Marianne, reminded me of a team of superheros, a la the Fantastic Four. But in this case, I guess you would call them the Terrific Three. Certainly Marianne made a great supervillain. Did anyone else think of these similarities?

MA just wanted the heart of a shifter. She has been killing shifters for 1,000 yrs, hoping to bring the god who never comes.

I viewed it as an analogy for the dooms-day religions, they keep hoping for the apocalypse so their god will return.

MA killed any shifter and always hoped it would be the one. Glad that bitch is dead, and at the hands/horns of Sam, it feels even better.

Wow, I really had to dig to find this thread.

Anyway, I'm so glad Maryann didn't turn out to be a harpy/maenad mix - that would have been just too fake.

Something that's been nagging at me. Maryann wanted to use Sam's heart to bring the god, right? So would Daphne's or Miss Jeanette's heart have brought a goddess?

Dionysus has been shown as "man-womanish" - maybe a hermaphrodite?

(That word has been in the news lately because of the South African runner. Poor thing - I feel so bad for her.)

If she is supposed to be a composite, then I agree with you, it's most likely a harpy. Sirens seem to be more associated with the sea, while maenads are associated with food, drink, orgies and sex as the process for destruction.

You know, I'm thinking more and more that Maryann is supposed to be a sort of maenad/harpy mix. If she is, I'm going to be very disappointed in AB. These legends are interesting enough without trying to merge them.

Are we supposed to believe she started out as a maenad, and "imagined" herself to be a harpy? Or was she a harpy all along, but she became a disciple of Dionysus and decided to be a maenad?

The bird talons, the screeching, the "Bird Lady" statue, the flinging up the arms a la bird wings, and of course, the Egg, all point to a harpy. Ugh!

Firefairy - interesting thought! Especially since she is supposed to be Gaia and other gods/spirits as well. Maybe she is all the old gods rolled into one, as you say.
