Aren't Vampires shapeshifters....don't they turn into Bats? I'm pretty sure the writers overlooked that important fact, or maybe they didn't have the creativity to incorporate that Vampire attribute in the story line.

I think Eric and Pam were floating, while Bill was running with Sookie in his arms.
I read the "Many Bloody Returns" anthology, and there are several interpretations of the vampire myth.

In the show Bill says that he can't levitate but that others can and they can also change form, Eric and Pam can float, in the books Bill can levitate and they never mention about Vampires changing form.

Looking like Bill was more running then floating. Erica and Pam were moving funny but Bill...oh yeah he was running

I believe that CH said that in these books, this was her interpretation of the world of vampires and others . . . so we should not expect that all things we have read before will apply here. Basically, making it up as she goes!

My theory on this is that is depends on the author. Most traditional vampire mythology has the vampire being able to take the form of a bat. But on True Blood, other popular vampire traditions have been disallowed, such as holy water and crosses haveing a negative effect on the vampire.
