Ol' Blue! It is great to 'see' you again, my 'Johnny Reb in deep cover as Billy Yank' friend. I do hope that you will not have to put your considerable knowledge of Civil War battlefield wound dressing into use on this trip. Bring a few old leather belts along just in case for use as tourniquets and to bite down on for pain. Godspeed and enjoy! I will not -- alas! -- be at the Gettysburg event; however, I will be at the Memorial Illumination of Antietam National Battlefield on December 5th. And I have about six henleys in various colours: weathered, unbleached oatmeal; white; blood red; dark brown; and charcoal. Two of them I've had for ages, and I totally adore them. They are my favourite go-to shirts and look both warmly cozy yet rustically elegant on everyone (especially if you've got Moyer's coat hanger shoulders with pronounced scapulae). I predict that this trend will spread, and soon Ol' Blue you shall be able to replenish your henley stock at Target. As interested as I am in seeing New Moon (although I've not read any of the Twilight series: I just enjoy werelore), I am not a fan of huge, raucous crowds (for reasons I've detailed long ago). I'd originally intended to wait 1 - 2 weeks and then attempt to see it; but my schedule is going to be packed pretty much straight through to Christmas. In addition to a very busy job and two holidays to prepare for (cooking, shopping, decorating, work parties I am obligated to attend); as of today I have: * Two Civil War association events to attend/work (the first a Chapter luncheon and the second a Holiday Home/CSA Museum/Garden tour to help host) * Mount Vernon by Candlelight event * A massive Christmas Open House with a cast of almost a hundred * The Memorial Illumination at Antietam National Battlefield * First Baptist Church Living Christmas Tree Choral Extravaganza * A trip to Richmond and Colonial Williamsburg, where I hope to stop by Hollywood Cemetery and pay my respects at the graves of CSA Gen. J.E.B. Stuart and his wife Flora, CSA Gen. George Pickett and his wife Sally, and CSA President Jefferson Davis and First Lady Varina. I may stop by historic Warrenton on the way to also visit the grave of CSA Col. Mosby. In Williamsburg, I have family to visit. * Midnight Christmas Eve Service at historic Christ Church (the Church of George Washington and Robert E. Lee) plus a slew of concerts: * Los Straightjackets: Viva! Christmas Tour. These guys are hard to define, but are a mixture of rockabilly and punk surf revival a la The Vandals. * The Street Dogs: Aye Aye! Their Wreck the Halls holiday tour to fulfill their endless quest for the world's largest circle pit. They are Celtic 'Oi!' style streetpunk straight outta Boston in the same vein as The Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Molly. * Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys: the Godfather of Old Time. One should never turn down a visit by the venerable Doctor, the original and only Man of Constant Sorrow. And boy can Dewey Brown play that fiddle! Preach it, son! Testify! * (And coming in January) The Carolina Chocolate Drops: a true North Carolina modern version of the Old Time African-American string band. They are performing at The Birchmere, for all local DC folks who may be interested (and there used to be quite a few of them here). * I may have a Sacred Harp singing, too. This is uncertain at this time. Hajnalka

Blue, good to hear from you! I'm glad to hear you're on the mend, and I do hope you have a lovely weekend. (must be the weekend for escaping - I'll be gone too) You deserve a break, for sure. Just be safe and careful - I can't imagine bumping along in a truck all the way from MI to PA. I hope, for the sake of your poor innards, that it has a smooth suspension... *waves*

Hey to all: My ears were burning so I thought I'd check in. Thanks to Haj, fulvia and all that have wished me well over the last five weeks. I am mending but not all the way yet. BUT...the ex proposed that we go to Gettysburg this weekend for the Remembrance Day and luminaria display. I, being a died-in-the-wool (or the homepsun, as it were), addicted-to-anything-Civil-War related fiend said "Why sure. It doesn't matter that I just had double abdominal surgery. I can do it!" So off to Gettys we are, tomorrow morning thru Sunday. Can't wait. Must take drugs and bandages with me, though. The doc said ok as long as I could stand a 500+ mile one way ride in a 4X4 truck through the mountains. Piece a cake, right? I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I don't bleed out or do other damage to myself. The luminaria display is Sat night between dusk and 9pm at the Nat'l Cemetery even though the actual anniversary of the Gettys address is Thurs, Nov. 19. Have been in contact with DJ, who lives near York and am hoping to meet up with her, if only for a little bit. I know Shiver is in PA also, but I think west near Pittsburgh. Haj: will you be joining us??? I know you're busy and probably wait dearly for down time, that you almost never get, but just thought I'd mention it. They will be showing "New Moon" at the Gateway Gettysburg Theater Complex, which is a really newish and nice complex with large screens, so we're hoping to try to get in to see that while we're there. Thought if we went at an "off" time instead of evening, maybe we might get a seat. Haj: How I dearly remember my henleys from my younger days. I didn't even know they'd become a future "craze". They were just comfortable and great looking on guy or gal and came in every color imaginable. You could sleep in them or wear them with jeans (the usual) or anything else and they looked appropriate. I wish I would have held onto some of them the same way I kept my "Nixon: Impeachmrnt with Honor" tee-shirt or my Dylan and other black light posters from those days. Hey...I'm how old???. By the way.. those quotes you mentioned are my fave too. I lovvved when Bill said "Because I'm DEAD" like Sookie was a moron and then explained the "magic" as he leaned in closer to her. What a great scene. Liked the book phrase too. Was hoping they would have worked that line into TB. Here's to ya. Hope to see somebody in Gettys. Blue

Hi, everyone: Love what you guys have listed as your favorite quote from the show and the books. Since those are taken, I'll have to go with the AIDS-burger scene in which Lafayette says: Faggots been breeding your cows, raising your chickens, even brewing your beer long before I walked my sexy ass up in this mother-f*cker. Everything on your g*d-damned table got AIDS/i] As for the book quote, I have to get back to you on that one.

Sookie is mine." *sigh* I love those early episodes... So incredibly magical... And miraculous, too.

Greetings and salutations, everyone. What ho! Slightly off-topic, but still in a way related to True Blood: this morning, my twin sister sent me a recent article from the New York Times about late 19th Century fashion, décor, and dining hitting it big in the Big Apple. The time period is primarily Victorian (1890s and so 30 years later than the Civil War Era), but still... apparently Ol' Blue and I are trendsetters. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/12/fashion/12CODES.html The popularity of Steampunk was a bit of a lead-in to this, as is the great interest in the weathered CW Era Henleys we all so adore to see William Compton sporting *once again, I repeat to the costuming/wardrobe department: dump the stereotypical 'Vampire' attire of constant black and grey metrosexual outfits for Bill and return to the beaten Henleys of his time period. Bill is most definitely not the stereotypical vampire, so why would he dress like a bad extra out of a modern Penny Dreadful?*. Henleys, by the by, are specifically mentioned. I've seen this trend coming for awhile now... even CW reenactments and CW associations are getting more press and general interest from a public intrigued by the looks and mores of the 19th century. Excellent! It's about time! I've noticed over the past year that Orvis, Duluth Packs, Beretta, Pashley cycles, and all of my other outdoor/sporting catalogues were offering more and more Barbour breeks, waistcoats, tweed, moleskin, walking sticks, and woollen and leather greatcoats. More capes and big shawls for women, too. And look at Spanx and many other trendy women's brands offering modern-day corsets (they hate it when you call them that... but let's not muck about and call a spade a spade, shall we?). Personally, I'm thrilled, as I've always loved vintage clothing. I've owned so much of this stuff for ages. I even just had a wet plate photograph done! Ol' Blue, time to proudly whip out and wear pieces of your vintage ensembles. Now all of the hair magazines are saying that the hottest cut for 2010 will be the bold, geometric 'Flapper' bob (a la Louise Brooks and Josephine Baker... which I actually sported for many years) and the hottest colour for 2010 will be... platinum. > SILLY QUESTION OF THE DAY: > > What's your favorite line from TB? If different, > what's your favorite line from SVM? Hmmm *Hajni strokes chin thoughtfully*... this is a hard one. I suppose, for me, one of my favourites would be Episode 1.3 (when we were still blessed with the lean, serpentine, feral Bill -- whose stalking oozed richly antiqued sensuality like musk) when he speaks to Sookie outside of her home about miracles: "You think it's not magic that keeps you alive? Just because you understand the mechanics of how something works doesn't make it any less of a miracle... which is just another word for magic. We're all kept alive by magic, Sookie. My magic's just a little different from yours, that's all." > Favorite line from SVM: Bill to Sookie in > LDiD, "Spread your legs for me, Sookie." I can't top that one. Yessuh! Hajnalka

Good morning, like-mindeds! latbfan peers under the seats at the back of the railcar, silently waving to all the lurkers back there. "Good morning to you, too," she whispers. She quickly tidies up the railcar, that job being so much easier without all the traffic, pulling the window shade by the snoozing Fearsome Foursome to keep the morning sun out of their eyes. Irony, always awake, winks before settling back into Paradox's shoulder. It's another chilly morning here. On the way home from dropping the kids at school, the sun was lighting up all this mist rising from the bayou. It was quite beautiful... If only our leaves would change color, it'd be perfect. But alas - one can't have it all. sugr, I joined the Boards last year during the break, and I about went over the moon when I realized there were all these people I could talk to about TB. My husband was most grateful, let me tell you. And I'd never heard of fanfic either, and now I write it. *shrugs* It's nice to have people who understand the addiction. "Hi. I'm latbfan. I'm a TB-coholic." fulvia, you knew I'd be hitting the midnight showing. It's tomorrow!!!!! I'm really so excited. And you're very right - the theatres would be swamped regardless of reviews. The problem with reviews is that the people who are going are die-hard fans who've read the books, probably many, many times. So expectations will be extremely high. My husband and I leave for our weekend trip Friday morning, but I'll be sure to post a review - probably with my fingers all jittery on the keyboard from too much coffee and not nearly enough sleep. SILLY QUESTION OF THE DAY: What's your favorite line from TB? If different, what's your favorite line from SVM? Favorite line from TB: Bill to Sookie, in 1.6, "You don't worry; I'm not going anywhere." Or Terry Bellefluer to Sookie, in 1.10, "Guilt is a useless emotion, or so they say." Favorite line from SVM: Bill to Sookie in LDiD, "Spread your legs for me, Sookie."

The New Moon movie is to greatly follow the book, with the glowing (or sparkling ) exception of the absence of Edward Cullen in 2/3 of the book. The makers of the movie knows where their audience's hearts lie, so they have changed that one aspect of the book. I, personally, cannot wait to see it. I may wait a bit, though, so I will actually be able to HEAR the movie over the screaming girls.

Good morning peeps: This is hugely off-topic, so apologies, although it is vampire related. Only a day and a half until New Moon comes out so I went to "Rotten Tomatoes" to check on the reviews, which, up until today, have been non-existent. So far, we have only 6 reviews and they are mostly positive. They are not necessary glowing reviews, but they are positive none the less. Since this is one of the few movies I was planning to see regardless of the reviews, it does make me feel better that it has not been universally panned. The movie will make millions upon millions and crush the box office this weekend regardless of reviews, I am sure. Good news, also, that the movie does not stray from the source material. Like the Harry Potter films, they have cut out some unnecessary bits but kept the core story intact without variation. I don't get to see the movie until Saturday morning, but for those braving midnight tomorrow and the main release during Friday, here is an invitation to write your review on the boards. I'm dying to know what the people here think about the movie. There are only one or two critics who I consistently agree with and I find that I trust the judgment of the people here more than than that of those that make it their profession. Again, shout out to Blue. We've been thinking of you and hope that you are on the mend.

I don't know why I didn't think to join the boards before I did. I loved TB and then I read the books...and I had to make my friends read the books so that I'd have someone to talk to about them. I'm really glad I finally did join the board though. The way I see it, the offseason is the best time to join- you get to know the members better. Once the show's on, I'm sure it's a madhouse around here. In my first few days posting, someone pointed me over to Eripmav's site. I LOVED what I read. I need to go back over there and read some more. I'll also have to check out those other links. It's odd for me because this is the first fanfic I've ever read. Granted, the only other fanfic I really knew about was Harry Potter and Twilight...and I just thought the idea of fanfic was quite lame. BUT!!!! Eripmav's stories totally changed my opinion of fanfic and I'm very grateful that I was pointed in her direction. I'll have to read the rest of you guys' stories. Thanks!

sugr: I have been late in welcoming you, too. Glad to have you here, and like latbfan says, it is nice to have new playmates in the off season. This is the slow time on the boards, the holidays looming and season three not even filming yet. We all do love to write, and had a great time on our Round Robin for which you got a link. Many of us were English majors and are closet fiction writers ourselves. Just a bit of fun, really, but writing for TB would be a dream job. My other dream jobs? Being a European correspondent for NPR, Sylvia Pugoli's job, or writing travel guides!

sugr, you are too kind. And we love having new friends to play with! I'm afraid we have a bit of a reputation on the boards for being geeks, and most of us don't go anywhere else, so it's always nice when someone drops by and says hi. *waves* And actually, we have written the show. Sort-of. Non-officially, of course (although I'm still thinking either one of the TB writers or a Ben and Jerry's taste-tester would be my dream job). But there are quite a few fiction writers among us. eripmav has tons. Twitche writes. We did a round-robin not too long ago. I have a little project in progress. Hajni is famous for her hot and bloody snippets. Here are some of the links. Not all, I'm afraid, but some: http://www.fanfiction.net/u/1844347/ http://www.fanfiction.net/u/2092019/SpeculationTrain

Thanks for the welcomes! I think you guys have wonderful ideas and really ... I think you guys should be hired to help write the show! :D Wouldn't that be great!? I just wonder how AB is going to handle everything that's going on in CD. Every point you guys have brought up is dead on and I couldn't agree more with anything that's been said.
