Good morning, like-mindeds. I have a crazy morning, but just wanted to pop on and wave, although once again, it seems our railcar is deserted. I was on youtube over the weekend, and I found Lucinda Williams performing "Jackson," the song they need to use at some point if S3 will take place there, as CD does. The quality's not the best, but you can get the idea. I love this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7c17NIsdlJM I will come back... later.

Is he a Rangers fan? Hajni: (Off topic, again) I don't know if AS supports hockey or not, actually. I believe I read that he is a soccer fan, and I remember that he went to a Rangers game when he was filming something in New York, but that doesn't necessarily indicate fandom. While watching the Rangers, he would no doubt have watched their Swedish goalie, Henrik Lundquist, who, along with other NHL stars, have achieved rock star status in Sweden. It is true that veteran star players in Scandinavia like Nicklas Lidstrom from Sweden and Teemu Selanne for Finland, have become de facto ambassadors for their countries. They are revered. So, even if he is not a fan, he must be aware, on some level, of the sport. -- Edited by fulvia at 10/19/2009 4:59 AM PDT

Hajnalka: The Bulletin came either late Thrusday or Friday from "Defender's of Wildlife" and it told of the killing of the "Cottonwood Wolf Pack" in Yellowstone. There was also a petition that they wanted you to sign~I signed it and also fowarded it to a number of posters who's email I have. By the way I don't have your email.

(Via CrackBerry) Just now out of a showing of Campion's 'Bright Star'... mixed emotions about it. Not quite sure it was worth the full admission price: we should've gone to a matinee screening. Marlene, you should easily be able to send me a PM as you asked to 'befriend' me about a year ago, and I accepted. You should already have me in your friend queue (you've successfully PMed me before, luv). I'd heard earlier about Limpy being shot, but when did this happen? Are you saying that the entire Cottonwood pack wandered off National Park land and was mowed down? I get regular email updates and petitions from the NRDC, the Sierra Club, Defenders of Wildlife, Sinapu, Vital Ground, and the Audubon Society; and I don't recollect hearing about this. Send me your intel... Many thanks. Fulvia: yes, I have seen Ovechkin (known here as 'Alexander the Great') play. The Russian is a real joy to watch on the ice. In addition, he didn't use an agent but preferred to negotiate his contract fairly himself. He is an honest, hard-working lad who is adored in this town for his character as well as his mad skillz. I still remain bitter, however, that Peter Bondra was not allowed to retire in a Caps jersey. Bonzai did so much for this team... he deserved that honour, and DC never forgave management for slighting him of it. Whenever Bondra came to town to play against us, the entire crowd roared and applauded the moment he came on the ice. He remained our bloke, and we loved him. By the by, does AS support hockey? I believe I saw something once about him attending a Rangers match (but that was because he was filming in NYC and got a Suite/Box invitation). Is he a Rangers fan? Hajni: (Way off topic) Yes, your Capitals are doing very well. Then again, you have Alexander Ovechkin, who, in my opinion, is the very best player in the NHL, period, since Peter Forsberg retired. (I am sure that my Finnish relatives are not happy with my hockey infatuation with the Swede, leaving out the still playing Teemu Selanne, but I gotta call 'em as I see 'em). I hope you get the chance to see Ovechkin play live: he is pure magic and when you see him, you know you are in the presence of greatness. When we finally get to Hawai'i, we have already looked into the fact that we can get the NHL Center Ice Package on the internet. I will not be denied! Thanks for the offer of the paddles. The outrigger clubs are everywhere and I seriously plan to look into them. Computer Hog, who grew up surfing, is eyeing the paddle surf scene which is gaining steady momentum in the Islands, and looks to be great fun. I watched a number of paddle surfers going nuts on Makaha beach this last trip, and it does look like enjoyable, those really big and wide boards, and no more swimming against the surf with only your arms. I can't believe you have even heard of the Finnish Spitz and Karelian Bearhounds. I don't think they are even imported into the states. Those Bearhounds are something else: they will literally chase bears into trees; they are bundles of sheer bravery. The spitz are beautiful creatures with very good temperments. However, I am a terrier lover at heart. Like your Norwich, Darcy, my Westies are look like white fluff balls, (OK, they only look like that for a few hours after their baths), but they are strong and brave little creatures. Lamp Chop is completely bowled over by them. The Westies are, at their heart, killers of little varmints, with strong, strong jaws: they have no idea that they are little dogs, not giant ones. I just love their attitude.

(Offtopic, peeps) Fulvia -- Glad to hear that your hockey team is off to a winning start, my friend. The Washington Capitals are doing quite well, too (touch wood). You're a true Scandinavian with your 'passion for the puck': I suppose you'd best enjoy it whilst you can because I daresay you won't see much hockey in Hawai'i. *pause* In fact, it's safe to say you probably won't see any at all. I can lend you a composite or wooden OC paddle to get you started in Outrigger, if you're interested. The composite paddle is Hawai'ian made and the wooden one is from New Zealand with a Maori motif on the blade. Werner makes excellent carbon OC and Stand-up/Paddleboard paddles, too if you seek a lightweight full carbon for your paddle quiver. Re. my Vallhund: his name was Gimli, and he was/is a wonderful dog. He was totally lupine in his colouring with a bit of a dark mask and 'spectacles'... very feral looking. He is being used as a stud dog/sire and working in herding with a fellow Vallhund enthusiast on her smallholding. She has goats and some cattle, and the Vallhunds work them (or attempt to... the goats apparently have other ideas about the whole endeavour) along with an Australian Stumpy-tailed Cattle Dog and a Belgian Malinois. Gimli never fully adjusted to an urban environment and was never truly happy in a suburban setting. Incredibly intelligent and 'sharp', he wanted/needed a job to do and was never more gloriously happy than when full-out running and working stock on a farm. Like Border Collies, many Vallhunds make excellent family pets -- provided they are given enough vigorous exercise and mental stimulation -- but others have a very high drive and long to work outdoors in a more rural environment. Gimli was such a dog. Re. other Nordic breeds: I like the odd little Norwegian Lundehunds from the Lofoten Islands and Finnish Spitzes. The Karelian Bear Dogs, however, are a bit too large for my current domicile. I currently have a wonderful and game little Norwich Terrier. She's solid, about the size of a rugby ball and just as tough. Don't let her size fool you ... she'll tackle anything if pressed (and I do mean anything) and do some major damage. The power of her jaw and size of her teeth are quite impressive for such a small animal. Pound for pound, there's no feistier group than the terrier tribe. They're the Mustelids of the Canine world. I have a question. In 1.8, when Coby and Lisa ask Bill if they cans ee his fangs, and then he teases them, what does he stick on them? You can hear the click, so they're down, and he's stuck what looks like large, flat candy corn onto them. But that can't be it. Does anyone have any ideas what that is?

Good morning peeps: It probably isn't cool to say how much I enjoyed a Showtime show, The Tudors, here on an HBO message board, but I will anyway. Very enjoyable historical fiction, and fiction mostly because Jonathan Rhys Meyers looks NOTHING like King Henry VIII. They did a decent job of keeping much of the historical aspect of the show, but they did sex it up a bit. It was an article in Entertainment Weekly that first suggested a number of people for the role of Alcide, but put Henry Cavil at the top of the list. Can I just concur? I don't believe that Alan Ball would much listen to us or Ken Tucker when casting his Alcide, but a girl can dream, can't she?

latbfan toes open the door to the railcar and enters with a basket of apple cinnamon muffins and a carafe of coffee. It's been so long since there've been treats, but she wipes the dust from the buffet area and sweeps under the seats. She carefully tucks in the Fearsome Foursome, and lowers their windowshade so the morning sun won't wake them. Good morning, like-mindeds. I've always been conflicted about marking spoilers. It seems silly to be wandering around the boards if you don't want spoilers, and it's impossible to avoid them. I know - I made concerted efforts to for a while over the summer, and it's just not possible. But at the same time, I want to be polite. Such a dilemma... I watched the first three episodes of the Tudors last night. Can I just say that the guy who plays Charles (Henry Carvil?) is an awesome choice for Alcide. Where did that come from? Is that just wishful thinking on someone's part, or has his name been dropped? They start filming in like 6 weeks, so they have to start casting soon... (Although they could film just the parts with the principals first and not have anyone else around until after Christmas - does anyone know how they do it? I'm not that familiar with how filming happens.) If AP gets to kiss that guy, as well as ST, AS, and SM, she wins some kind of prize for luckiest woman ever. Ever... CD BOOK SPOILER But who knows how interested Sookie will be in Alcide on the show. The story's different than CD; even before Bill is taken in the book, he and Sookie weren't doing all that well. She was feeling neglected before he left.
