All aspiring actors can also load their headshots here for free. This is a web site supported by very influential industry insiders and will be officially launched in April. They're taking free submissions right now and I bet they will start charging soon. I heard a lot of buzz about this among staffs at Variety magazine and they're launching massive PR campaign in May. So wannabe actors take advantage and get your headshots up there.... hipjongo.com Message was edited by soyola at Feb 3, 2006 9:03 PM

I would advise you to audit Cameron Thor's class at Carter Thor Studio, Studio City, CA. Move near the Studio and establish a network group with the actors in the studio. Ask a lot of questions and absorb as much experience as you can from fellow actors who have been in town for a while.

Hello! I hope things are going well for you. I am from the midwest myself, and so I can relate to where you are coming from. I have been out here for two years, and I love it. I can't imagine doing anything else. My number one piece of advice is be prepared! Don't expect to get a job for 20 hours a week at minimum wage and still be able to survive...I have seen lots of people come out here with that attitude and last a month before they are completely broke and have to move back home with their parents. Save up some money (I have heard people say at least $10,000 but I think that is totally unreasonable. I came out with $3,000 and a credit card, and I did fine. I know people who came out with less. Just make sure that you have a couple months rent.) For the first couple months don't plan on doing much auditioning. (Take the time to learn a little about the process before presenting yourself in front of people you want to impress! ) Get a job, take classes, and get LA headshots. Meet as many people as you can who are doing what you want to do. It can be a long, hard, lonely road, and it helps to have people experiencing the ups and downs with you!!! Especially being so far from home. Be selective about who you take advice from. Every waiter, bartender, bank teller, etc. is trying to be an actor, and they all want to tell you what you "HAVE" to do. There isn't only one way to make it...if it was that easy, everyone would take the same route. What didn't work for one person may work for you. Just find people you admire and respect, and learn from them. Finally, I would say acknowledge that becoming a successful actor is a process, and has many different levels. Being cast in anything is an achievement, being paid (even just scale) is too. (Of course, working on an HBO series and winning an Oscar are higher up on the list as well). Celebrate all the little victories, and prepare for the journey! Best of luck to you.....

good luck satch...i think you gain a certain wisdom by wanting and waiting. i hope you do get a chance to act anywhere and everywhere! and good look to you all who posted your dreams of moving out west one day. when i moved to los angeles from tennessee, i found that a lot of people have a passion for acting and don't have direction. finding that direction in a classroom is a good start to stretch your legs...but you can't rely on the safe walls of that class forever. classes have to come and go. i got a huge guilt trip when i left my first L.A. acting class after two years. i left because i knew that although i have a love for acting, i'm not willing to throw 120% of myself into it yet...i'm waiting...and hopefully gaining little bits of wisdom so that when acting jobs sporadically cross my path like they have, i'm ready to sink my teeth into them. as a part time performer i do work in a industry related job, see a lot of plays and a lot of movies. there are good people who do good work in this town...ya just have to look for them.

I believe humbleness is obtained automatically when you have to 'wait.' Two days before my high school graduation ceremony I was shipped off to bootcamp. Two years have passed and my desire remains the same. The pain of being detached from the world of theatre is un-describable. I have two years left in the service. I do not regret the decision I have made. Through this experience, I learned how to control my dreams; instead of my dreams controlling me. There is a very thin boarder line between reality and 'dreams.' Every unnoticed actor must have one foot on the reality side and the other on the dream side. The ones that stand completely on the dream side will be torn apart by the harshness of reality. And the ones that stand completely on the reality side will have no motivation and will end up quitting. I am confident that I will be a strong force in the business but I also understand that I have a lot to learn about my craft, I will be rejected, and I need a roof over my head during the process of seeking discovery.

hi there, i am not an actor but i can tell you that the cost of living is super expensive in LA. i was born in long beach and have family in LA and lived in sacramento most of my life, and now i am in virginia temporarily. gas out here is 1.93 and out in cali its like 2.15 or more, and not to mention the food and everything is much more expensive. so if you dont have alot of cash saved up i would say save, stay and do your acting where you are bust your ass, save some money, then buy a one way ticket to cali and rent yourself an apartment in a decent area. definitely avoid santa monica or new port beach or del mar. good luck!

Hello Ya'all I am a Minnesota girl born and raised, but now that I have started college 3 years ago, I have found my true passion for acting I only have a year left of college and would like to move to LA to give it a try. If ANY of you out there who have moved to LA to try acting do you have any advice for me? Because I have heard to costs a lot of money for living expenses. Or do you think it would be better to keep acting here in Mpls, the market here is smaller then LA, and since I started to go out and try to get jobs acting last year I have been in one film and I do not have a agent, but I have not tried to get one yet. I watch the show, and I love it! But the more I watch it the more I want to move. I had a friend who was not nice person move to LA about 4 years ago to become an actress, and she has been in a lot of films and mags, so dose that mean that to get jobs in LA you have to be a

But I also understand that it's not everbodys cup'a tea! Although my mom supports me through anything that I decide to do.
