Young corner boy Kenard brings down the mighty Omar. Make your eulogies for one of Baltimore's most feared men here.

Months later, I am still depressed about Omar. My all-time favorite character ever in any show.

That guy some loved to hate, and some hated to love, but all were still moved by the role of Omar.Omar was a mirror image of alot of poeple that live in large urban areas like Baltimore,Detroit,NYC,PHILLY ect. I think thats why his death on the show effected so many people in different way, some people were sad,and some people were happy to see him go. But either way It's hard to say that Omar Little wasn't something or someone to remember for good or bad reasons. I was a Omar fan,but hey so is Barack Obama, when asked in a tv interveiw on CNN Obama said Omar was his favorite role on The Wire. anyway peace R.I.P Omar Little Tribute to Omar Little's life in the streets by Urban Diversity music group "All in the Game" http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=LmW_WZZqCNQ

Let me say that I am the BIGGEST fan of the character Omar, I had such an unexplainable, and emotional reaction about his death on the series..."How could they let him go out like that" "This is some bullshit" "I'm canceling my HBO {which I did}", "This was the worst thing they have ever done on the show" "David Simon and Ed Burns are suckas"BLAH, BLAH, BLAH. This deeply disturbed me, I was literally outraged. Let's face it....it's a television character, so why does a person like myself going beserk over a television character??????!!!!!! This is that intangible thing about The Wire, it just affects you so deeply, you tend to forgot it's just a tv show. I have since had a reasonably amount of time to calm down but I still vehemently disagree with how his death was handled. Anyhoo... I think the magic, and brilliance of the character of Omar is the fact that MOST of the time him being gay never crossed the viewers mind. As in real life, what a person does behind closed doors in their bedrooms has nothing to do with their values, character, or their ability to be and do whatever they wanted to; even a gangster. I believe that this was the real underlying thought that Simon wanted to give us as an audience. Simon has always said that the characters on the show were based on a mixture of 1 or 2 real people, and he expressed the same about the character Omar. Let's face it the term "homo thug" came about because these dudes exist in our urban landscape.

Dopefiendlean, Thank you for the attempt to educate me about the population of gay people that exists. But before you take exception for my asking the question, please know that I absolutely adore the character of Omar. Omar was one of the best characters - the gun-toting, gay stick-up man. I was simply wondering how David Simon came up with the concept for a gay gangster. I thought it was brilliant. In my opinion, Omar's character was the most original I've ever seen on TV. -- Edited by ginger745i at 05/08/2008 6:14 AM PDT

I believe David has > a brilliant mind and these characters are his > creation. Is anyone aware of any of David's articles > about this? What "concept" is that? The fact that gay people exist in this world - just like straight people? Gay people make up 10% of the population. David Simon answered that question: http://www.statesman.com/life/content/life/stories/books/04/06/0406readings.html "When asked why he made one of the show's characters, Omar, gay, he replied, "Because some people are gay." RIP Omar He was the best character on this show.

Just a side not on that......the reason he said Bodie or Biddie is because that's whar Marlo called him when they first met.

The name is Bodie. I think you are right. Marlo had no care or concern over Bodie. Bodie was a part of the Barksdale organization. Like I said before I think Marlo called the hit because he could, not because he needed to.

> mrntgr, > > I agree with you on all of that. So, if you recall > the scene where Marlo gives his crew the ok to take > out Bodie what do you think Marlo aka "spawn of the > devil" was thinking? Probably something like this: I just bailed out my two best hitters. This joker just got locked up for kicking out a squad car window and he's out the next morning. That white dude must have bailed him out, 'cause whatshisname, Bodie, Biddie, couldn't afford that. All this a coincidence? Sheeeit, bye bye Biddie. Never liked him anyway. I knew he was a chump when he stepped to me with that weak bullshit before Avon started acting up.

mrntgr, I agree with you on all of that. So, if you recall the scene where Marlo gives his crew the ok to take out Bodie what do you think Marlo aka "spawn of the devil" was thinking?
