real life characters

can somebody point me to the thread that lists the real life characters from the wire. like i know avon is based largely on melvin williams. i know one of his top lieutenants and wonder if wee-bay or stinkum was supposed to be him. but, being the new person, i'd hate to start something that was done years ago

The only thing similar with Avon and Cheese is that they both got over on Prop Joe which ended in his demise. In the end everyone played him. He was scared of his own shadow. When that happens you don't leave town, you get out of the business. Bammas ah? Like all them PG county boys...County...haha

Avon is hot-tempered and very concerned with his image on the street. Although he is not as cerebral as Stringer, he is shrewd and intuitive.

This all i ever said, and evidently somebody on Wiki agrees, not like Im saying replace A with Cheese, but they cut from the same cloth, straight bammas

The chase of Omar drew thew heat, the heat lost him his connect, all the sidebar stuff with Stringer and Dangelo is secondary, to the LEADER slacking on his crown, it was only a stroke of luck he even had a Stringer , not caught up on the tape at Orlando's, you wouldnt've had none of that loot, I guess you woulda just sent Poot or Bodie down to Atl?????

dont forget, Joe wanted the towers to make MORE $$$, String needed them to make ANY $$$

You are right the objective is a long run w/out going to jail or dying. Avon's major problems were not his actions but his trust in Stringer. Stringer got him in bed w/ Joe. Stringer ratted him out in S3. He wasn't getting caught for killing Marlo. Joe did his well. Until he was killed.

understand totally what Avon wanted and thought, just saying those in the street didnt always agree and life always goes on, seemed to me he got out a lot quicker than anybody thought, for that he gets mad props, for getting locked in the first place for bringing unnecessary attention to his group over some insignificant local shit??????. Again, its not that i see through Joe eyes, but yes, if I had to be in the drug game i would rather adopt a stance that allows me to maximize profits while reducing incarceration as much as possible, thought that was erbodys objective, but than I have seen those more interested in the ooohs and aahhhs from a crossover dribble, than the actuality of putting the ball in the hoop

Regardless, any fiction worth its weight, takes on its own reality, and the Wire is certainly no exception. Finding relevance in "reality" is simply beyond the point. The "reality" lies in the story, and therein lies the relevance.

mrntgr,

You are exactly right. Avon had no problem breaking even need be. Trout only looks through Prop Joe eye's. As Avon said to String " you bleed green, I bleed red "

Again, I don't think Avon was worried about making money as much as he was with holding on to the territory. Stringer's move made them more money at the time but compromised their position in the street. He sold Avon's independence to Prop Joe. It was not the tradeoff that Avon wanted. To Avon, that name and position of power was priceless. All the Co-ops and lofts in Baltimore weren't worth that to Avon.

Regardless of the Atlanta quality it would of held the towers until another connect was found. If it wasn't stepped on. Joe got in Stringers ear no doubt. In the beginning String sat at the head of the co op table, not Joe. Regardless Joe was great. You can't do what he was doing for as long as he was without being great. His short comings though were what got him killed. That would have never happened to Avon. Marlo would be dead. On the other hand Joe's strength's were Avon's short coming. He ended up in jail. The difference is though in comparing them is Avon ended up in Jail because he was snitched on. Otherwise he would have never been caught for that war. and would have had all the prime W. Bmore realestate. Joe ended up dead because he was shook of Marlo. That' why he let him in.

I don't think money was the major issue as much as maintaining Avon's status. I also believe it was Stringer's call to dilute the product further. Recall Cherry complaining about having to step on product that was weak to begin with. The fiends were definitely running to Eastside though, no question. Be that as it may, Avon had enlisted muscle to hold the Towers, which bought him at least a little time to continue to search for a connection. Considering Brother's talk with Avon in Season 3, Brother may have been in a position to assist with that at some point. Otherwise there was no good reason to give up Stringer. Assuming that's true, Stringer may have actually screwed up what could have become a solid connection. I see where you're coming from though, Avon overestimated his power over Stringer. That falls on him alone.

but they wasnt, remember they said fiends was walking to the east, word was out, dont buy that garbage in the towers it was a matter of time, and Avon overestimated his poweres while he was away from the scene, but you right, why he aint leave D or Bri in charge???(they woulda made zero money) somebody must have already done something to earn that number 2 spot

Stringer didn't make do. Avon decided to make do, bringing in Brother to hold the real estate while they sold that ATL garbage to get by. Avon had the resources to run it like that for awhile. That would have been making do. Stringer was unsatisfied with making do, so he got in bed with Joe and backdoored Brother, both against Avon's wishes. I don't think either of those moves worked out particularly well. It could be that Avon's plan may have eventually failed, but it was his call to make as the #1. Entrusting Stringer with the shop was his call too, so it's all his fault in the end.

help me folks, what am i missing?? WTF was Stringer doing if he wasnt setting up Avon and if he wasnt close to Avon, in their business he was really closer, as number 2 man and on equal footing as far as the money went, much more a trusted advisor to Avon than cheese blood relative status ever got him to Joe

Face it Joe was a bitch. He scared no one and was scared of everyone. He is dead because he was weak. Your hero got out thought because he was shook. Cheese lost respect for him and jumped off the ship. Marlo played him. Avon made it happen. It's not that deep.

Nice chat Trout. Surprised it took this long for you to go silent and bow out. You compared Micheal C. from the godfather to Joe. Lol buddy.
