If there were a Season Six....

If you could have another season of The Wire what would the angle be? Where would you like Season Six to take you?

I was thinking Season 6 could be about the prison system, but that might be too Oz-like - even though it would probably take the prison angle to a WHOLE other level.

Season 6 could also be about women dealing within male-denominated institutions. Judge Phelan finally crosses the line with Rhonda, Officer Colicchio (the angry white cop with the fucked up haircut who resented Carver's outranking him, and seemed to resent black folks in general) assaults Kima, Beadie's transferred to an office where she's harassed by her sergeant, Mayor Nerese Campbell starts getting undermined and backstabbed by her male co-horts, or perhaps she and Marla Daniels are pitted against each other.

Any prospective season six would have to have had its beginnings in season five - hence two additional episodes, up front - at least.

Were that not possible, the series would have to be extended to a season seven (at least), for resolution.

What the fuck? Think we turn this stuff around on a dime?

The drug war aspect is similar I admit but seeing it through the eyes of another culture could be intresting also the court drama has been hinted at with the Bird trial and a qucik verdict reading for Clay Davis but it has never been covered in depth which I also thought should be looked at Finally we have seen that this younger generation of police know nothing but stats I also thought it would be intresting to see what would they do on a situation were taking bodies just wouldn't get it done

If I was pitching season 6 I would combine some of the Ideas that I have heard here, these Ideas include a look at the growing Hispanic imapact on crime in Baltimore something David Simon said he wanted to do on the Wire but never got the chance this would be the street story also a look a the court system.
We open with a new gang moving in on what is left of the CO-OP taking up the territory that hasen't been bought up by John Hopkins and other redevelopment projects. Next Marlo can't change his nature and is making a big impact getting back in the game although he is light on muscle he is more experenced fighting a war than Fat Face Rick or Slim so he is getting some of his rep back. The police have gotten a little better because Carcetti has gotten them some new funding. LT. Carver, head a new gang task force under the umbrella of homicide his unit consists of himself, Sydnor Dozerman and a new dective.
this would carry the story for the first couple episodes after which we see the new unit pick up Marlo on gun charge somthing minor but it forces Pearlmen and Bonds hand with the deal they made last year the charges against Marlo are reinstated and McNulty and Freeman are arrested and charged in their part of an illeagle wire tap.
In the third act of the season the street violence gets ratcheted up but since many of the officers awere raised on stats they have no clue how to work this type of case so Bunk and Kima are brought in to get a handle on the Homicide rate .
The final act revolves around the court case against Marlo and the discrased officers as well as some back door moves within the court system. This is just an outline storys for Micheal Levy and others would be worked in as well

Slim tells Avon how Marlo wants to have a sit down soon, Avon changes the subject talking about how things used to be? Slim smiles and laughs, then changes the subject back to Marlo.

I'm not a big-shot writer, my friend. I have the salary to prove it. ;)I'm just answering the question where would u like The Wire to take you. I'll have to think about how to exactly and get back to you. But a recent documentary pulled these elements together quite nicely. Think of it this way, of all of our characters we've got someone selling drugs, someone using drugs, someone trying to stop the drugs, someone supplying the drugs, someone jailed for the drugs, people who effect/create the policies about the drugs, etc. We can connect them, but it would take more than a season. I'm off the clock now. Peace. :)

Both important institutions, although I'm not sure how it could be framed. The counterargument would be that we just had a season about a corporation with The Sun. I'm not sure if the Port was a corporation as well. Prison system would be interesting. The tough part would be finding ways for the characters to interact with that system. The boys have a good chance of landing there at some point. Other than that, it would be isolated to folks visiting. Not saying it isn't possible, but I'd be interested in knowing how you'd work the prison system into the daily lives of the cross-section of folks we're accustomed to seeing in the show.

I'm not sure what to call the institution. We stopped following the money. Lester said to follow it. I'd like to connect the drugs with the corporations with the privatized prison system to the government's dependency on the War on Drugs. I think all the players I mentioned could fit into something like that.

I'm a simple person. I think we could follow the lives of Dukie, Mike, Randy and Namond as a basis....maybe 5 or 10 years later. Some might say that's old news, but even though much of the game stays the same; times change. Technology, laws, the creation of narcotics all change. Mike's hustle would different than Omar's...it's a different day. Maybe Nerise is mayor. Perhaps we run into Marlo again. Is Namond going to be a cop like his "dad"? Is Bug drawn to the streets even though he's with his aunt? Is the Barksdale Day really over? Introduce more diversity..the latino population. There's a resurgence of gang activity. How does that fit into the drug game? There are enough areas to explore for a few more solid seasons.
