If you were speaking

If you were asked to speak at Omar's funeral and pick ONE song for that day, what you would say about him and what song would you pick?

The Big Payback- James Brown

They Harder They Come- Jimmy Cliff

It's a toss-up between these 2 for me.

Omar Devone Little was a complex man, capable of terrible acts of violence but also of great acts of kindness.
Unlike those he fought against, he was an honourable man. Stood on his own two feet, needed nor sought any man to back him up, faced any foe with courage, a good friend and an enemy to be feared.
There is a new avenging angel in heaven today, and the devils and demons who are his enemies now will be looking over their backs, into the shadows, for retribution shall soon come.

And the tune. Stepping Razor by Peter Tosh, The Harder They Come by Jimmy Cliff and the one I'd have at mine, When Sundown Comes by Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, amongst many others

I would have to say ...

that hear lies a man who was true to the code of Baltimore. He was not without value and whatever wrong he did, his heart could not be conquered. RIP

I cannot choose between Ain't No Love in the Heart of the City..Bobby Blue Bland or Donny Hathaway ..A Song for you. From Baltimore to Omar and vice versa?

It was sung at my brother and sister's funeral..
I've been so many places in my life and time. I've sung a lot of songs, I've made some bad rhymes. I've acted out my life in stages, with 10,000 people watching, but we're alone now and I'm singing this song to you. I know your image of me is what I hope to be. I treated you unkindly, but darling can't you see, there's no one more important to me baby can't you see through me 'cause we're alone now and I'm singing this song to you. You taught me precious secrets of a true love. Withholding nothing, you came out and fought when I was hiding. Now I am so much better. And if my words don't come together, listen to the melody, 'cause my love is in there hiding. I love you in a place where there is no space or time. I love you for my life, you're a friend of mine. And when my life is over, remember when we were together. We were alone and I was singing this song to you.
I love you in a place where there's no space or time I love you for my life you're a friend of mine. And when my life is over, remember when we were together. We were alone and I was singing this song to you. We were alone and I was singing this song to you. We were alone and I was singing this song, singing this song to you

I wondered if Omar?s brother was murdered by a Drug dealer trying to do the right thing and this is what caused him to go after their breed. What I do know is that he was true to folks of Bmore which means someone was good to him?

I know you said one song. I can't count. :)

I have another suggestion:

Bon Jovi - Wanted Dead or Alive.

Say, how she ticking Joe?

It's a toss up. Omar was a complex character. Hustler with a code who love kids and other men... known gangster.

I would have fun with it and have some rendition of the "Banana Boat Song". This song because all people sing it. It's old and its about working, counting and time to go home. When you die, you're gone home and for him it's ironic, night has fallen. --But the lyrics state, daylight's come and me wanna go home! On the surface its light hearted but can be intepreted on a deeper more applicable level; an oxymoron. Omar was a living oxymoron. It's also not a predictable choice for Omar. Look up the lyrics if you like.

Or

I would choose something current and safe... Lil Wayne's Duffle Bag Boy. Omar knew how to get the money and survive while others came and went, he was the constant over all of the years.

Here lies a banger with a code, He lived by the gun and died by the gun. Song would have to be Thin Lizzy "Boys are back in town" for how he came back at the end!!!
