In another thread Dahitman4 mentioned sending some people from The Wire to prison ala OZ to make a new show out of those two HBO shows. That got my brain spinning about spin offs for The Wire. What character or characters would you like to see in a spin off? Would it take place in Baltimore or would you send your cast to a new location? -- Tim HBO Forums Host

I think a Oz + The Wire series would make great TV. I would like to see Chris, Marlo, Avon, Michael, Dukie, Bubbles (doing outreach by bringing NA meetings to the prison), Namond (Corrections Officer, Cop, Lawyer), Randy, and Carver, I have a more detailed description of what I think would be a good spinoff in "If there were a season 6" thread. Maybe set it up where some are in Federal prison (IL, PA), and some are in Jessup and examine the differences of Federal lock down vs. state. I'm really missing the series right about now......

I say a big fat no to the idea of a spin off. The only way I would even consider watching it is if David Simon and Ed Burns had something to do with it and I think they are on to other things.

John Adams is interesting, and Ep3 had some good moments in it. I will try to catch Eps 4 and 5, but then again I enjoy history, and Rev War doesn't get a heck of a lot of exposure these days. I have to wonder if Strauss was let go more due to dumb moves like screwing up the contracts for Deadwood, so it didn't get a 3rd season, and that pitiful as heck John from Cincy. The latter show was a true waste of effort, IMHO. HBO has some competition out there in the form of AMC's "Mad Men," and a few other good programs. Most of the time I find myself locking into a good movie, and watching that at night, or just vegging in front of the TV with the various L&O episodes. When people mention spin offs, I am reminded of some of the garbage that was spun off MASH after that series rambled on a for few years too long, too. Then again, maybe I'm just cranky today. -- KBB "Oh, man, m-my BREW!" "History learned through knowledge shared."

Wow, her firing says all that needs to be said about reviving The Wire. The show has run it's course, and it's time for something new.

HBO's brilliant miniseries on the life and times of John Adams got off to a strong start in the ratings Sunday night attracting an audience of 2.7 million viewers, according to The Nielsen Company. While that number might seem small by the standards of network TV, it is one of the best Sunday nights HBO has enjoyed this year. The miniseries starring Paul Giamatti and Laura Linney is also available On Demand and in multiple showings that are not included in the 2.7 million figure. By comparison, the finale of The Wire was seen by only 1.1 million in its Sunday-night premiere on March 9 -- and that was after HBO had taken On Demand advance viewings off the table to try and build a respectable audience for the finale. Such disappointing ratings as those of The Wire contributed to the removal last week of Carolyn Strauss as head of programming for the premium cable channel. The ratings for John Adams are especially important to HBO because the $100 million production will anchor the channel's Sunday night programming the next five weeks. -- Your man need to reconcile himself to this here way of thinking . Watched OZ on second-hand DVDs. Glad I didn't spend real money on it. The Wire was a great show for 5 years, and that's just the way it should stay. I agree with whoever said it (David Simon maybe), 3 years is perfect for a series, 5 is long in the tooth. In truth, The Wire could have been told in 3 years with tighter editing, and included both the harbor and the schools at that. The newspaper storyline should have never been considered. Bottom line: spin-offs are an insult all around. Give this series an honest burial. Something new's right around the corner.

OK HBO needs to step up and quick. Having been known for incredible tv drama now we're left with a bunch of shit for shows. Anyone who has seen WEEDS on Showtime knows that show is stupid, fake, and cliche. HBO should come with a new show from the perspective of Marijuana. Just as the Wire covers all angles from street to politics to education, this new show called SMOKE would take an honest look at pot. Sure crack, heroin, and meth get all the attention and rightly so.......but pot is the most used, most common drug in the world and every single user of above mentioned drugs started with a couple puffs on a joint. This new show would be able to expound upon the drug game from pots perspective. Everything from the farming and processing to the distribution to the legalization and de-criminalization. Just like The Wire, it should be a large scoped cast centered from the point of view of a young pot smoker who gets into the game. HBO IF YOU LIKE THIS IDEA DROP ME AN EMAIL. VIEWERSHIP OF THE WIRE WAS LOW BECAUSE THE AVERAGE PERSON CANT RELATE TO SELLING HEROIN AND SHOOTING PEOPLE. BUT EVERYONE HAS A WEED STORY OR TWO EVEN IF THEY NEVER TOUCHED IT .

A cross of OZ and The Wire would be great. I really liked OZ and still catch it on On Demand with my hubby. He loved that show.

> I'd love to see what Avon, Weebay and Chris are doing > in the joint if we're going the prison route. Me too! They could also focus more on the life of Avon; Wee-bay & Chris now that they are in for the long haul. Show how Avon still has the power inside now that he has 2 real soldiers inside. Maybe Marlo allows Chris to work with Avon since Avon hooked him up with the supply through the Russian. Marlo is the one on the streets; Avon inside... maybe focus more on the corruption within the jail walls. Westside sticks with Westside and f@#k those Eastside biotches!!! - Avon
