My other favorite, besides the previously mentioned is wit'ot a doubt is my man Omar... despite his character on tha show, he had the name Jesus on his tongue quite often fo' a gay gangsta..(He took granny to church every sunday, and like I said, nobody said "Sweet Jesus" better than Omar) Out of tha boys he rolled wit, Naldo was my pick. He was a bit whiny, but he had a head on his shoulders to stand tall in tha jackin' game that he and Omar dominated. (Brandon apparently forgot what his night job was, and got caught slippin' AT A DAMN ARCADE, ARE YOU KIDDIN' ME??!!) The other dude after Brandon got on my nerves so bad, I forgot what tha hell his name was! Wanting to be baby'd and play tha housewife, pillowtossin' punk-ass "you ain't cheatin' on me, is you?" Bullshit-Omar REQUIRED A RIDAH!! PART'NA IN CRIME!!! He wasn't jackin' to put no dudes in no dresses- he had a retirement plan to raise up X-(X-(out of Bodymore Murderland, prosperous. I sho' nuff hated the way he went out... Kenard's lil cat-burnin' bad ass! The part when Omar was eliminated made me scream like a white lady in church-Aaaaahhhh! My scream I'm sure I broke a couple of glasses in tha house. He an' Marlo should've squared off in tha last episode, but the ending was otherwise.

In my history of reading these boards, I would think much love goes Bodie's way, from young and old

I really adore Bodie and was heartbroken when he was shot, defending his corner. I just thought he was an electric character, someone who easily questioned some of the rules set up in his sphere, but who also honored them because he so looked up to Stringer and Avon.

The actor who played Bodie was amazing, and captured the energy and smarts of one of the soldiers, or as he put it, "a smart-ass pawn". He personified so many young folks, but also the energy, toughness and diplomacy required to stay alive and get ahead.
Although it was true to his character to stay and defend his corner no matter what, I really do wish he hadn't died. Especially towards the end of his life, with his budding friendship with McNulty, I held so much sympathy for him! I loved so many characters on this show, but Bodie is one most don't name.

Filling in gaps

One thing that I love is that the histories of characters tend to define each other and fill in gaps. For example, if you're wondering how Omar became the baddest muthaf*r in the hood, just look at Michael. If you want to know how Bubbs started using, look at Dukie. If you want to understand the pressure that Deputy Opps faces, just look at what happens to Daniels when he steps up.

Every season ends with another set of hoodlings or popos to rejoin the game. Everyone thinks they are unique, that they are going to be the one to change things. Yet, the minute that one person steps down, there's another to take his/her place.

P.S. Omar is my favorite character. He was the one player that stayed true to his game until the very end. Never pretended to be different than he was. He was the most authentic character.

P.S.S. Dukie's story breaks my heart.

Man The Wire should have been based in D.C.

Half the actors in The Wire are born and raised in the District.

But DC, B-More mostly the same culture. 45 minutes apart.

BRING THE WIRE BACK!!

Lester didn't just figure out Lex was in the vacant on the spot. Lots of police work went into that deduction. Marlo was his target, and Lester was aware that he had spread out over the westside without dropping bodies. He went looking for the bodies in the park and in the sewers and found nothing. He heard about the nailgun from Herc. He and Bunk went to the crime scene to look for the body of someone killed by a suspect who is clearly hiding the bodies. With all that information in mind, it doesn't seem absurd for Lester to look into the vacants nearby. This is the same guy who heard Kima say Golden Gloves and found a picture of Avon before the night was out. He was also the one who found that evidence in Park Heights when Kima got shot. Doing that sort of thing was his job, and he was very good at it. Kima showed the same sort of skill in solving the case of the witness killing in S4. These cats were just that good, plain and simple.

I hated the characters of McNulty, Greggs and especially Lester Freamon. The Wire was a great show, top 10 of all time, but I found that it often got lazy and repetitive. I just finished watching Season 4 (no Season 5 spoilers please), but I'm getting tired of how they just close story lines with bs police work and legal jargon. At the end of Season 4, when Freamon and Bunk are standing at the playground where Lex was killed, and Freamon is just "somehow" able to figure out that bodies are being stashed behind the vacants. Then for the rest of the season, he just walks around with that stupid nail in his hand and his dumb glasses hanging from his nose. Along the same point, in a city that doesn't even have computers in the homicide offices, where the detectives are filing reports on typewriters, they somehow have this great wire setup (not including the FBI help) at all times and are able to figure out this vast network of burners and cell phones. I also find it cliche how they just throw the unit back together all the time, and have this happy reunion. I just find it frustrating to see these great story lines tied up through the same median...somebody sees something or snitches and they are able to topple to enemy. Don't the producers know what heresay is?

Agree with aHugefan68. All round great series. As long as it's not sensationalized. It's how it is I think. Shows the way many live and also how little goes to working the problem.

I think Snoop's character was more of someone who was killing for the sake of killing than Chris.

Chris never showed any emotion other than Michael's stepfather when he did hits, and it seemed just like business to him. Marlo would look to him for decisions on what to do and whom to kill. Like when they were deciding on what to do with Lex, and the other guys were talking about taking out the corner, Marlo looks over at Chris and Chris shakes his head. Then Marlo says they're only going to do Lex.

Snoop on the other hand, seemed more blood-thirsty. Saying "it's about time" when Marlo ordered that hit on the Barksdale crew, when he's on the motorcycle. Or when Chris had to stop Snoop from shooting that one guy whom Snoop thought was a New Yorker because of the radio show. I think it was season 5 where Snoop talks about being bored and wanting to do more hits.

Couldn't agree more about the diff between Bey and Chris/Snoop. Things would have been alot different if Bey hadn't took all though murders. I had said in an earlier post that that was the primary reason for the collapse of the Barksdale Empire. Avon no longer had reliable muscle. Bey was loyal to no end and mould merc you in a second. It would have been nice to see those two crews go head up. And how ironic that Bey and Chris doing there bids together!
