Episode 60: RIP - THE WIRE

It's the end of an era. Pay tribute to the personalities, city and show that changed the way America views "The Game."

Haven't been around in months. But I saw The Secret Lives Of Bees yesterday, I was excited to see Michael playing a lead charactor role in this film.

I miss the wire so much!

Marlo was in the co-op with all the drug kingpins. The connect only did business with Prop Joe so Marlo killed him so that the connect would be forced to do business with him. The connect don't give a damn about Prop Joe, they just want to make money and unload drugs.

I WANT A MOVIE!!!! I'll write it if i must...

The Wire is way to much of a important series that deals with real issues of substance....

The Wire has to be imortalized as a peice of liturature
that has been placed on the TV screen for us all to see..

And it will sell...

Too many movies that have come out "Street Kings"
the talk about sorta the same issues but never cut it... ! Keanu Reeves is NO Domonic West...

A movie if marketed correctly can celebrate the show..
,,and make loads of Money...and extend the Dramatic
Iconic show for others to enjoy that were not so blessed to have HBO...

From someone that once lived in the Baltimore Projects its a project that has many possablities...

I have a few Wire favorites... Michael "Puppy Wit Tha Big Pawz" Lee. Who was the "Manchild" of the show. I admire his ability to stand tall thru it all... Here he was, a youngzta wit a drug addicted mother, a cold stepfather, and he managed to care for lil' brother, bug, whom he loved dearly... When he decided to roll wit tha big dogz, to me, Chris "The Zombie Master" Partlow was the only one who felt Michael and respected his principalities. Snoop never did too much favor Mike, and Marlo basically left Chris in charge of overseeing the youngzta. Marlo had fumbled when he put tha hit on mike, cuz Mike didn't snitch on Chris-Mike hated his steppopz wit a passion, and how I think Chris got pinched was (remember) when he beat and stomped steppopz to death, Chris had spit on dude, and left his DNA at tha scene. Chris was usually careful bout' his hits, but his emotions ran high to the point that I couldn't help to ponder that maybe chris had been violated also at some point of his life. Speaking of Chris, I dig him, too!! He wasn't a yeller or trash talker, but that to me is what made him the most dangerous enforcer that God put breath into.. His afro-centric features, beautiful skin color, and his "africa hair" (which lacked sheen and a comb sometimes, but that's OK! lol) ... Opps, got off track... Back to business.. He was an ideal hitman, along wit Ms. Snoop.. Marlo had two of the most loyal enforcers ever known when it comes down to a black organization-Period!! As for Mr. Marlo, ICEWATERVEINS!!! But he listened to his instincts most of the time, cept' for wit Michael... I have more favorites, But gotta go, IT'S TIME TO WATCH "THE WIRE!"

I don't know if it's because I'm a woman and have my motherly instincts but my favorite characters are Wallace (season 1) and all the kids from season 4. I literally cried like a baby when Wallace was shot by his friends. Thats why I could never completely get into Bodie- I never forgave him for killing his friend.
My least favorite is def. Carver. He disappointed me from the beginning. A lousy cop, a disloyal person and i really believe he could've done a lot more for Randy. He kept letting me down season to season. I guess that just shows how great the Wire is; it gets you totally involved and hooked on every character and detail. I'll miss the show!!!!!

Seems like this blog is finished. I wish the show would start up from episode 1. I can't afford the DVD right now. The 2 this that stay with me about this show is that mentoring is so important to young men. Webay's son was a prime example of that. You also have to consider Chris's impact on little michael. The other thing is children should stay away from the police. If an adult wants to provide the police with information that's their choice to make. Leave the children out of it. I don't care what they saw. Police have fucked up so many cases where child witnesses were murdered.

I have asked several times on here ,but have not yet got an answer ,but does anyone know who is the shadowy figure in the middle of the poster that they sold on this site I have been told it is Mcnulty ,but I don't think so it just dosent look like himit is also I believe the same person that is on the cover of the season 2 box set . Also if anyone knows who is the upper right hand corner of the poster as well it's really been bothering me so if anyone can help that would be great . I would also just like to say that as I finish watching the final season again on dvd I just can't believe it's over it is the best show ever.

This was the BEST series ever shown on TV in any format, cable, satellite or network. It's a shame that it is no longer creating new shows because there are so many more stories to tell. My favorite characters, I guess it depends on which season. Season 1: Omar and McNulty. Season 2: McNulty Season 3: STRINGER BELL & Omar Season 4: Omar Season 5: Prop Joe, Omar & McNulty.

Its sad to see THE WIRE end its run. We will miss the quality of the stories told about B-more and its characters and their lives. Never before was I captivated by a television show like this one. The Sopranos was pretty good compared to this, but it let me down at the end. The Corner wasn't long enough. But THE WIRE, OH MY GOODNESS: Had me from episode one to its very end. TV sucks again.

Wow?:| Did we go to the left or what?

The argument was amorality vs. immorality not Marlo vs. Slavery. You missed the whole point, but your feelings are valid. The question was what is considered amoral? Amoral meaning a person having no code as opposed to immoral, a person that has a code but does not follow it intentionally. (good, bad, right, wrong)

There was nothing bad about the examples if you really understood. Both instances involve people who have been thrust into a lifestyle that deals with fear and control. Both examples are injustices whether by force or choice (if there was a choice) Yes, that argument still stands that the methodology of slavery impacts a lot of how business is done today and more so how there is still the practice of good old slavery. By the way, so what slavery goes back to the bible it is bondage of a people. It wasn't right then and its not right now.

Now thats game. Take your foot out of your mouth.

PLEASE TELL ME YOU DID NOT DEFEND THE ACTIONS OF A MAN WHO ORDERED THE KILLING OF OVER 24 PEOPLE BECAUSE HE LEARNED IT FROM SLAVERY. PLEASE JUST BECAUSE SOME ONE IS FROM THE U.K AND MAKES AN OPINION (AND A VALID ONE AT THAT) THEN CONDEMN HIM BECAUSE OF WHERE HE IS FROM. PLEASE STOP. DRUG DEALERS SELL DRUGS FOR MONEY AND POWER SAME REASON WHY WHITE, BLACK, LATINO, ASIAN. DRUGS LORDS AREN'T ALL BLACK AND TO DEFEND IT THAT WAY IS BEING OBTUSE AND NARROW MINDED. WHITEY BULDGER SOLD MORE DRUGS THAN A LITTLE BIT WHAT COLOR WAS HE. SLAVERY WAS ONE OF THE WORST INJUSTICE MAN HAS EVER ENCOUNTED AND TO COMPARE IT TO THE LIKE OF MARLO STANFIELD IS EGREGIOUS. SLAVERY GOES BACK TO THE BIBLE WHEN THE U.K WAS WHAT NOTHING . PLEASE STOP

The UK as in United Kingdom? I found your comparison of Marlo being as amoral as a reptile very interesting, if not a lude remark. Maybe a lack of . By the great words of Omar, "Everyone has a code", even a reptile. The reptiles code is natural selection, the darwinstic approach.

What is considered amoral? I mean damn, what is the difference between slavery and a drug dealing? Both deal with the bondage of people by fear and control; emotionally, mentally, physically and (spiritually if possible). The breakdown of a people based upon greed, which in both examples sums up to MONEY. So Marlo's so called amorality is based on the how he learned his business sense through assimilation passed down through 400 years of slavery, but we call it diversity. Who did we learn that from I wonder, the UK maybe.

We've just had this ep in the UK. I found it particularly harrowing because he took it so calmly. Marlo is a particularly subtle portrait: as amoral as a reptile, but on the surface a quiet, inoffensive guy.

Question about Prop Joe and Marlo. Did Marlo ever find out that Prop Joe led Omar to the card game that he robbed. I remember Omar threatening to tell Marlo about Joe's invovlement but I can't remember if Marlo ever found out and if this had anything to do with him killing Joe.

Yet joe didnt do nothin
> about it. WHY? did the connect noty mention to joe
> that marlo was trying to do business with them??

Joe did do something, he miscalculated as somone else stated. But I think he miscalculated the fact that Marlo was not as slow or coopertive as he thought he would be. Prop Joe was very subtley working his way out of the game. He expected to step out of the game and retire in peace. NOT!!! He taught Marlo to much to soon i.e. off shore accounts, technology from the greeks. They created a smart monster and he ran with it. Without this knowledge Marlo was not a real threat other than killing people because they were a threat to him. He was just trying to create fear in people, similar to Omar's conduct. It was all fear factor on the old school. The younger generaltion, like Bodie, was not going out without a fight. It was time for the co-op to change because they were complacent, and Marlo was the beginning of change who had different rules, code, conduct, deameanor or whatever. By the way, Marlo had no charisma, at all.

The Greeks were to adimant about not dealing with anyone else unless they went through Prop Joe. Joe knew what Marlo was doing, if he did not coerce the boy into to talking to the Greeks. It's possible.

In any event, Joe died because he tried to moralize an already immorale situation and/or person. Bottom line he made a bad decision to think his 401K plan was fool proof. He also underestimated Cheez, his own family. That's who got him killed.
