Episode 60: RIP - THE WIRE

[Replies: 1,261]
It's the end of an era. Pay tribute to the personalities, city and show that changed the way America views "The Game."

just another hoodlum who's time was up. He thought he was smarter than he actually was. The only thing I give him credit for was recognizing that the game was no longer about territory, but product and therefore it did'nt matter who controled what corner. Now about him trying to invest his money in the real world of business, he was way over his head, like a guppy swimming amongst sharks. Those crooked developers and Clay Davis would have bled him dry if he had'nt been killed. Yes, it is smart to one day get out of the game, but you need to know how to invest, launder, and explain and need be pay off the right people to look out for your intrest. Like I said , Bell thought he was smarter than he actually was.

I'm not sure but I think The Greeks knew that a "take over" was coming and they didn't want to be a part of it, they wanted no attention, etc. They only want the one who ends up on top.
Why Prop Joe didn't understand how ruthless Marlo was is beyond me, but he didn't see his nephew Cheese doing what he did either.

1. Marlo walked away with no charges.
2. DNA on Chris. No Way Out.
3. Monk caught with the drugs.

Marlo got a great deal. He got to keep his money and no jail time once Levy agreed to Rhonda's terms.

Levy probably could have beaten the case and quashed the charging papers for Marlo had he not been caught up in his own web of deceit with the grand jury tampering. So if anyone sold out, it was the crook with the briefcase.

Not gonna bash you, but while it was an oversight, I wouldn't classify it as tragic. I didn't notice the first time I watched, and now that it has been pointed out repeatedly, I'm still not bothered by it.

Marlow's ambitions and hunger for more territory and the way he was throwing money around opened "The Greeks" eyes. The Greek see's opertunity to make more money and sell more coke. As you should know, everybody come to thier end at one point or another. This was Joe's time as it was Cheese's time and Omar's. I think I'll miss Omar the most. He was the most feared and respected man on the show.

When season 1 first started, I watched the first couple of episodes faithfully, but I missed a few episodes after that, and just stopped watching it altogether because I was completely lost as to what was going on. Last year I started dating my boyfriend who faithfully watches every episode! He was mad because I wouldn't watch it with him, not because I didn't like it, but because as I said before, I didn't know what was going on.

Since then, he has purchased seasons 1-4 for me to watch so I can get "updated"...and I am hooked...I work nights and when I get off, I have to watch at least one disc before I can even go to sleep...!!! This is the most I've turned on the television in a long time....I love this show!!!! I've now watched seasons 1-4 and I am mad because I haven't seen season 5 yet...!!!! I want to know how can I get season 5...I need it RIGHT NOW!!!! I can't wait anymore...especially since season 4 ended with my new found love "Bodie" getting killed!!! I actually shedded some major tears because of that...they didn't have to kill my "Bodie", I mean he survived 4 seasons...they could've let him live....damn that Michael, Snoop and Chris...!!!! My baby went out like a soldier though...didn't he? JD Williams...I love you baby...!!!! Him an "Tommy" Carcetti can get it...aint he the cutest white man you ever saw? LOL

I am an avid fan of the Wire. It is my feeling that this is by far the best depiction of inner-city life, at least the part of it that is under the strong-arm control of drugs, crime and education. in other words the Black Experience. the only problem I had with the show, and no it is not the ending of the show, though I will touch on that briefly, is the death of Omarh. If you paid close attention to the scene leading up to the death of Omar you will notice that he was really beat up and in a lot of pain (walking with a limp and grimacing in horrific pain). However when he walks into the corner store for his usual Newport?s, moments after robing one of Marlo?s spot?s, he walks into that store upright, in no noticeable pain and as a bonus with that ever so popular Omar swagger that he depicted so well. I read into this two ways;
a tragic oversight on the writing staff/director for not having the actor correct his disposition
As a long-shot as to some type of spinoff for another show, this was not Omar at all but some type of lookalike that Omar had met up with in his travels laying low. (I know I?m reaching here) but look at the episode before you bash me.

Please understand I gave the creators/writers/director high grades for the work put into this show over the 5 seasons. I just could not believe that this could be such an oversight on their part. However none of my friend/family caught this. I was the only one to see this, but once I made them aware they all jumped on the band wagon.

The fact that Marlo was even at the table said a great deal. It's not really a matter of better or worse. It was clear to the Greek that Marlo was determined to do whatever was necessary to get the connect. They could have denied Marlo again, but he would have likely killed Joe anyway. Maybe that severs the connection, but it wouldn't matter because the whole town would be hurting. There was nothing to be gained by the Greeks by denying Marlo. It's better to get on the train from the start. Also keep in mind that the Greek is not the only supplier. Avon held the westside without the Greek's dope, so there are others out there. The Greek could have said no to Marlo, but he would have found himself locked out of the market if Marlo had decided to go with someone else.
