Episode 60: RIP - THE WIRE

It's the end of an era. Pay tribute to the personalities, city and show that changed the way America views "The Game."

interesting, snoop always talked that "do what your told" stuff and dont question marlo, but after chris and snoop kill butchie she says something to chris like now hes gonna be on us like we on him, and chris says that the plan and snoop says "plan sounds fucked up if you asked me" very michaelish of her.

i think marlo was a smart calcuated gangster. Im requopting another poster but he did run two armed boys off the corner with nothing but his fists and his heart. thats gangster, crazy in my world, but gangster in his. he never really made any moves without really thinking everything out, him stepping to those two boys wasnt smart but it hink it showed a lot. Marlo even looked so uncomfrtable in that ugly suit, he couldnt play the stringer role, it was as if he was addicted to the street like an addict, he needed a quick tasted of the street IE. him tasting his own blood. "my name is still my name" those kids on the street didnt even know who he was, they were talking about omar"

yeah but if remember ep. 57 or 58 with Mike and Spyder talking, Spyder was telling Mike that it was a couple of dudes that shot Omar in a gun battle and Mike was telling him he heard it was Kennard. So that's probably how that rumor got started. The kids on the corner was probably just repeating the rumor they heard.

They didn't kill Marlo?

Instead he runs up on some youngster and tries to get all g'd up and shit?
that's some BULLLLLSHITTTTT!

He should have caught one like cheese did, with his bitch ass. I'm glad Slim picked up the crown though.

Mike turning into Omar...
Dookie turning into Bubbles...
Sydnor turning into McNulty...
Carver turning into Daniels...
And punk ass Herc still sleeping with the enemy...

Anyways... here's me hoping to see a spin off from The Wire! This was the hands down best series show I've ever seen!

Since the beginning of the Marlo character, I've thought he was a psycopath. He wasn't in the game for the money, but for the thrill of the game. He didn't need to kill all those people, he just did. The scene at the end, when he was in a suit and being shown around to all the big business players, he looked like he needed air...like he wanted to fit in, but didn't. For me, his going out and killing that guy on the corner just convinced me he is a psycho. I mean a literal psychopathic, personality disorder, messed up in the head psycho.
What are you thoughts on that? Do you think he was a "real" serial killer?

avon didnt have the greek connect, that was prop joes connect, and they only dealt with joe.

and for those confused, sydnor didnt become freeman, he became mcnulty, thats how the show started, mcnulty going behind the bosses back complaining to judge phelan and asking him to keep his name out of it, thats exactly what sidnor did, that was great writing. i had a couple questions

1. after marlo learns it was a wire tap that tipped of the police why did he still insist michael be killed and lied to chris and said michael was the one who talked about the re-up

2. levi was told by herc it smelled like a lester freeman wire tap, but levi told marlo he had no idea who or what unit was responsible for the wire tap, why?

I thought the finale was great and tied up a lot of lose ends.

I agree with the vicious cycle portrayal.

Sydnor is definitely the new McNulty.

Dukie's end left me feeling like I felt for Wallace in season 1. Sad but realistic.

I plan to re-watch on the On Demand later, but did anyone notice if the kid robbing the rim shop with Michael was the little car thief from season 4? (can't remember his name off-hand)

Just to make it more interesting. Who did you see as winners and losers in the game?

Freamon-winner. Retired and with a young ex-stripper.
Marolo-winner. Out of jail and 10 million in his pocket.
Pearlman-excuse me your honor.
Daniels-not sure about this one. On the one hand he won because he became a lawyer but on the other hand he didn't get top cop.
Rawls-Never could stand the guy but he won.
Loser-Duquan
Michael-lost his brother, good friend, now he's the stick-up boy. Wonder how long that will last.
Kenard-Oh yeah, I was smiling big time on that.
Bunk-Real murder police.
Cheese-Hell yeah!!!
McNulty-winner. Lost is job but got a good woman and the respect of his peers.
The Greeks-the real KINGPINS.

Ok, your turn.

No, with all the characters the writers show a good and bad side, just like all of us have. Unfornately on TV, most characters are either good or bad and you love and hate them...I guess it's realistic to show the good and bad of each character. With that being said, I think the writers showed a young city councilman who wanted to make a difference, but did have some character flaws as someone who enjoyed the power. Remember during his campaign he would say whatever he had to when making phone calls to get money from donors to his campaign. He like most politicians have a real desire to turn a city around, only to be corrupted by the entire political realm of a city, state, and/or country.

The governor's seat was there and he had to make his move

I first want to thank David Simon and the makers of The Wire. I live in this city and really have never seen anything come across a medium with such truth and vigor like The Wire. With true South Balwmore Hon accent in his voice, I was shocked to know that the actor that played MeNulty was an Aussie. Man, I know the ending was rough, but so is life here in B-more city. How many Dukie's do we see up and down Penn and North Aves, how about in front of Lexington Market before 6am tring to get their next hit. Too many! But that is what I am talking about, this show took me there even though I was raised around it, drive through it and try to distance my self from it. It is the city. Do the politicians try, yes they do, while lining their own pockets and doing whats right on their watch...maybe. Do the police try and do their job, yes they do but they are not super heros they are people too with lives, prejustices and faults of their own. The one thing that I did learn is that this is a universal problem. This is just a peep hole into this city, and I took it to heart because I was born and raised here. But the travestys happen all over, the triumphs are there but not as clearly defined. And through it all we are to live, the Dukies, the Bubbs, the McNultys. I just want to thank you David Simon for painting a picture that everyone needed to see, this is America looking itself in the mirror. Just one favor, come back, do another season, do a movie, do something because this is art imitating life as it should be. Not some reality garbage. We love you Hon!!!!!
