It's the end of an era. Pay tribute to the personalities, city and show that changed the way America views "The Game."

H.L. Mencken quote: I found this on a website: The epitaph was the end of a quote by H.L. Mencken, ??the life of kings.? The full quote appeared on the wall of The Baltimore Sun, and it serves as a mission statement for The Wire and its creator, David Simon: ?I had more fun doing news reporting than in any other enterprise. It is really the life of kings.? H.L. Mencken wrote for the Baltimore Sun from 1906 1948.

I TOTALLY agree on Kima. Think about it: McNulty blamed himself for her near-death. Freamon was the most "real" police, and yet he was a low-man on the totem. You KNOW he hated the establishment. So for Kima to embrace that establishment SO MUCH that she felt she needed to rat - Well, thats unforgivable. It seemed to me that McNulty and Freamon knew the show was coming to an end, so they cut her a break!!! I could hear Jimmy, "Lester, this broad is not real police, she should be in a dumpster with a ribbon around her wrist...but, the show is ending, so whadda ya say we do her a solid and smile and laugh about it?" This is so fake. Working cases is the only thing that made Jimmy sane. For him and Freamon to shrug that goes COMPLETELY against these characters' nature, and I think the writers really messed this one up.

Slim Charles got the connect from Prop Joe. If you notice, Slim was beyond simply being muscle by the time Prop Joe got killed. I could see Joe letting Slim know about the connect around the time Slim warned him to be wary of Marlowe. If you notice, Slim was waiting for confirmation that Cheese gave up his uncle and his "Nostalgia" monologue was all the confirmation he needed.

"I think Kim got off very easy. No backlash - c'mon." I agree. There are tons of possible things that I would understand her snitching on, but not this. She just seemed so childish and whiny to me. In the end, though, I guess she did put things in motion in time to keep McNulty and Freamon out of jail, even if that wasn't her intention. She just acts so self-righteous. Her character has always gotten under my skin, though. She was kind of a pointless cliche of what people think all female cops are like.

"I think it was a great ending. But to all the people saying Slim Charles could of gotten the connect from Avon, when did Avon ever have the greek connect? As far as I remember avon never had the greeks as a connect Prop Joe always had them thats why Stringer had to give Joe some of the towers in order to get the good shit from Joe. Avon never had any connect with the greeks. And if I understand right I think its not just slim and fat afce that have the connect I think its the whole co-op they just arent gonna have 15 people meeting in a diner. Great ending anyways" It's true, it's true. Sometimes some of us have to sit back and remember all the details before we post. Yeah - Avon never dealt with the Greeks, and Marlo even said you can get through to them, but they ain't never gonna deal with you if I don't make the introduction. One thing - didn't Marlo look good with the unshaven look? You should hold on to that one, dog!

Can someone please tell me what we'll watch next? I'm in, it's obvious everyone on this board has good taste and judgement, I'll take any suggestions from any of you guys, even the haters, because you guys took the time to atleast watch the greatest show ever created. Well, first of all, nothing on TV comes close to the authenticity of the Wire; I'm friends with two B-more cops who tell me this all the time. However, there are a few alternatives that have the gritiness and great acting and writing that The Wire is known for. 1. The Shield (FX) - The Shield is the closet thing to The wire...this is pretty much a known fact, at least at the local barber shop I go to. This show deals more with police corruption and interpersonal relationships on the staff, than wire tapping. The show is based in LA and the gritty action mostly comes from the LAPD's Strike team as they track down local gangs using illegal tactics and going undercover. The show has been running since 2002 and like the Wire, its reaching the end of the road this year, there are 13 more episodes planned for this spring/summer. Also, the Shield is the closet thing to an HBO type of production you will see outside of HBO. For some odd reason, the FX network allows the show to push the censor envelope a lot, which makes the show more realistic. 2. Lincoln Heights (Family channel) Lincoln Heights is on the family channel so obviously it does not push the censor envelope at all. However, what you do get are characters that you really care about and a fantastic cast of top notch actors and life lessons about love, honor, surviving in the street, race wars between rival gangs, snitching, high school drama, bad police/good police, etc. The shows centers around one family and the cop who returns to his old neighborhood from his child hood days. The biggest diff with this show from the previous two, is that it mainly centers on a cops family and shows the trails and tribulations they go through. The show does have a few shootouts and so forth but its far from the wire or The Shield; its just a good show that I personally recommend. Lincoln Heights returns this year, check the listings... 3. Prison Break (FOX) This is far from the grittiness or urban environment of the Wire or the Shiled and its also very unrealistic, but its so damn addicting...watching Prison Break is like playing an action/adventure video game with non stop action where you have to kill enough enemies to advance to the next level. This show just pulls you in, its so cruel and violent that you cant help but tune in every Monday. episodes resume - Spring - 2008

Does anyone have the quote that they mentioned in the episode? The one the guy read Bubbles? It may have been the same quote at the end on the Sun wall? Thank you

NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL A FINALE!!! I enjoyed every minute of it. I didn't see some of the people I wanted to see, but I did see most of them. I was happy with the ending for everyone except Dukie. He just couldn't catch a break. Praises to everyone involved in the production of The Wire. HBO, please come up with another show equally as good as The Wire. Blessings.

I have watched the Wire since it first aired on HBO and want to say THANK YOU to the cast, producers, writers, and all who made The Wire possible. This show has brought forth many talented actors and actresses to our attention. I hope we will see more of them on regular tv or on the big screen. I hope the Emmys and the Golden Globes will finally acknowledge this show and give props to some of the actors and actresses with a nomination as well as a nomination for the creator, Dave Simon. Dave, thank you for bringing to life important issues and problems that go on in the inner city. (The ending) At first, I kept telling myself there is no way I will be happy with an ending and there will just have to be a movie. You didn't dissapoint, I was truly satisfied with how it ended. Michael is the new Omar and poor Dukie, a drug addict. I wasn't expecting a happy ending because life isn't always a happy ending especially life on the streets. (Favorite charactors) Lastly, my favorite characters were McNulty, and Omar. McNulty always gave a damn about what was going on in the streets and wanted to make it better. Omar, was the man, the Robin Hood of Baltimore. He was gay but he was gangsta and he feared no one. FAREWELL TO THE BEST SHOW THAT EVER HAPPENED TO HBO OR TELEVISION PERIOD!!!!! -- Edited by 1fan4lyfe at 03/09/2008 10:42 PM -- Edited by 1fan4lyfe at 03/09/2008 10:42 PM
