It's the end of an era. Pay tribute to the personalities, city and show that changed the way America views "The Game."

for all those that insist the wire's ending was either non existent or that it didn't suffice have missed the point of the show entirely. the wire is about the continuous cycle of drugs, cops, politics, life, the good, the bad, the ambiguous. a realistic end to the show would involve a meteor. if the wire had a season from now until forever, i'd watch. but that is not how you tell stories. the show has probably ruined tv for me for life, as it would seem silly to hold anything new against it. perhaps it's time to pick up a book. but fuck that. i'm depressed.

Favorite scene alltime was when Bunk and McNulty were working back on cold murder scene related to Dangelo when Avon had Weebeey and D take out a talkative girlfriend. Anyways the whole scene is them working out how the murder must have gone down and the communicate and act out the whole five min or so scene using only the word FUCK lol was fuck ing genius.

I know think David Simon has said things in the past to the effect of 'the city is a character,' but it felt like this was a eighty minute show that they stretched to ninety with all the cityscapes, sunsets, horizons, and people shots. I got the effect, and it would have been nicer with two hours to play with, but I would have preferred that ten minutes to be dedicated to Michael, whose dialogue was not believable, or Randy (?), Chris, et al. I did think it was a bit much to have Dukie shooting up. At least show him rolling a joint, as even Bubbles admitted to starting with. The McNulty scene with Templeton...one of Jimmy's best. "The lie is so big nobody wants to believe it."

I don't know that they used the streets and its people like that. After all, the show grew out of The Corner, which was very sympathetic to the street characters. It didn't condemn all the people who happen to be players, it just showed the effects of the game - how it effects those beneath it, outside of it, and within it. 5 seasons of one circular story (the players change, the game stays the same) would have been pretty repetative. This showed a larger picture, and the streets' role in it.

I have been a fan of this series from the very beginning. The only show I actually watch TV for, except for Real Time with Bill Maher. It saddens me that The Wire never won a single Emmy or any other award. This show had excellent writing, acting, and even editing. It is sad that this show received such critical acclaim but no awards to show for it. However on the flip side I am not suprised. Perhaps I should not wish for the "Hollywood trophies" from mainstream Hollywood (America) to dignify or validate our stories and our art. They seldom have validated our art and when they have it is often for buffoonish characters. Anyway just wanted to say thanks HBO for giving us several years of a great show, with a fine cast of actors and great storylines.

"Larry, let's go home"???????? What was that about? Is McNulty homeless now, and he and the homeless man, Larry, are going to the streets? Or, is McNulty taking Larry home to Beadie's house where he lives too? Beadie ain't gonna have a homeless man up in her house McNulty took the homeless guy to another state, Ohio I think, he was saying lets go home cuz he was brining him back to BMore

All in all I was kind of disappointed. I mean, I know the good guys don't always win, but that newspaper liar should have been caught like the one in real life. Or at least let McNulty beat his ass. I was disappointed that Duquan ended up like he did. But, I can handle that. After all, how many brilliant kids get "left behind" every day in America? Everything else was politics as usual. Dirty, criminal, backstabbing, blackmailing....no different from the streets. The usual crap that goes on here in Chicago. Someone asked if Michael was gay? I had that same thought when he walked in "taking over for Omar" with that gorgeous boy with him. I mean...he was just too pretty. I liked the ending when McNulty said,"Let's go home." BUT.....but.....IMO....the only thing that would have truly made me jump up and scream like I'd done though most all of the episodes.....and which I'd come to love The Wire for....is when Marlo's ignorant ass was standing on that corner licking his wounds.....if Omar has just limped around the corner and blew him away----then we would have known it was his brother that was killed. Followed by a parting shot of Omar walking away into the night....that's it. No words. Just Omar's silhouette. THEN cut to McNulty saying..."Let's go home." At least then a little street justice would have made my heart skip a beat. As it was, episode 60, was just episode 60. I felt really "down" afterwards. I was really hoping for much more. And I'm not the only one. We actually had a going away Wire party. Talk about hyped up. Afterwards everyone was like..."That's it?" We were all pretty let down. I think they should have written alternate endings like some movies. -- Edited by aprilneo at 03/09/2008 11:03 PM -- Edited by aprilneo at 03/09/2008 11:04 PM

guitarsolo, you have to get a new roomie! how dare they walk in during The Wire! Yeah, it was a cute scene... she says something like, it's her first case up and she has to recuse herself... and Daniels is grinning like the Chesire Cat.

geuss its time to cancel my HBO! the wire was nothing short of tolstoy's war and peace, circa 2000. the best show ever to be put on television. nothing is perfect, but i won't allow myself to nit-pick and tear apart something that was so amazing. (How do we lose sight of the big picture?---We lose ourselves in the details!) thank you for a great ride and not dumbing it down with too much unneccesary dialouge! well done, i will measure everything on television and movies against this piece of art. all of these writers and actors should be proud of being a part of this! will always be intersted in anything that may come in the future!!!!!!!!!!

I meant Kima getting off easy. Very sad about Dukie. He was too weak to defend himself or to know what he wanted. I think Pres knew he was on drugs. Very sad. McNulty & Freamon still kept their pensions at least. The Wire will be missed. I hope a movie or another spin off series continuing where they left off will happen soon.

Lets touch on a few things and I will close my comments.. Lets get this straight Micheal is not gay and he is not the new Omar. A line from Tupac will show this to be true.. " You told me not to go to war unless I got my Money right now I got my Money I want war " Micheal was getting that money because he knew he had to go to war.. He dropped Dookie off like Avon did Stringer because it was just business, and his brother was more important. Marlo was smart but he was no gangsta Slim Man'd up when he drop'd cameo turned back stabber Cheese AKA Method man of the Wutang clan. Mike is smart enough to be the next Avon he already passed the Boddie stage because he knew how to make bank, take orders, and defend himself. Bottom line us street cats got rip'd off .. They used the srteets to get famous and then they ran the topics another way.. If you don't be lieve me think about this.. 1 thing for certain 2 things for sure.. Ex-Cops wrote the show about they way they seen the streets, Aint no cops locking up reporters or politicians... Let me leave you with a real fact about street cats and the show.. Real Gangsta's are always ready to die. Slim, Snoop, Omar in Jail, Stringer .. They all told their comp to to hurry up and get it over wit

"Judge Pearlman immediately recused herself from the case because of her relationship with Daniels. As an attorney, Daniels has no choice what judge he sees. I don't think there was any impropriety there whatsoever." I suck, my roommate walked in right in the middle of that scene. Fair enough, somehow I just missed some of the dialogue there. I suppose that's why Cedric was smiling like that and all...
